I have been going to this dentist office for a number of years now. They have always managed me pretty well, and the delay in the front lobby has never been very long. I have seen a lot of dental assistants come and go through the years... now I think I am on my fifth or sixth. This time around the cleaning I had went very smoothly, and I didn't get any complaints about how I should be brushing more or anything. The only complaint I now have about the office is that the front waiting room has seen much better days. This was by far the worst dental experience I have ever had. 1. They refuse to do any dental work unless you pay upfront, even if your insurance covers the procedure, such as periodontal care. You are literally sitting in the chair after at least an hour wait--they double and triple book routinely--and they put the charge form in your lap. 2. They never reimbursed me for what my insurance had already paid them, despite numerous requests, both from me and from my insurer, Aetna. 3. When I saw other dentists in Gainesville they all knew about Coast Dental--and when I say "knew about," I mean they all knew it was a dreadful practice. All advised me to see anyone else but Coast. I spent over 5 hours there one day for an implant replacement. 4. The dentists managed to break the screw of my implant, something no other dentist I consulted had ever heard of. They wanted to charge me another $200 or $300 for the new screw, which my next dentist got for under $100. I think they are a terrible practice. And now Howie T., whoever he is, has been responding to bad reviews by a boilerplate comment expressing sorrow and thanking us for bringing it to their attention. All of the YELP reviews are saying the same thing--scam artists, barely competent, pushing expensive "care," making you wait for hours and hours and hours. STate should shut them down. read more

My husband and I had an appointment yesterday. My experience, when you walked into the office it was dingy... It appeared that the patient files were all kept in banker boxes lined up in the hallway and pack of the office. Questioned, how safe is the patient data. Then the actual dental chair, had rust on all of the joints of the chair. So much that the arm would not raise for me to get into the chair. The visit with the 'dentist' is via a teams chat. One of the routine checks that is performed is a cancer screening that is not covered by our insurance. My husband who is checked every 3 months for any type of cancer declined that screening. Because he would not let them perform that check, the declined service to him to have his annual teeth cleaning. Since they would not see him without that check and the dingy condition of this office, we will not be going back. read more

If there were negative stars, I would give them one. I spent four days calling Coast Dental just to schedule my appointment. Then, one day before the appointment, they told me I needed to contact my insurance company and have them assign me to their office. When my insurance tried to do this, they were informed that the office was not accepting new patients. I then spent another three days repeatedly calling the office, trying to get them to join a conference call with my insurance to resolve the issue on their end. However, the office was consistently unavailable to speak with my insurance, which made the process extremely frustrating and time-consuming. I was scheduled for an appointment at 8:00 AM on Friday, but when I arrived the office was still closed. I did not begin my appointment until around 8:45 AM. After X-rays and an exam, the dentist told me that I only needed a routine cleaning. However, I was then taken to the front desk and told that they do not perform cleanings on Fridays and that I would need to schedule another appointment. This was very frustrating because the cleaning could have been done during my original visit. I was also charged $30 for a service that I did not need, and when I returned for the cleaning appointment, I was asked to pay an additional $10 for an office visit !! In addition, Christina at the front desk was rude and unhelpful. I felt pressured to pay unnecessary fees and did not feel respected as a patient. I went in for a toothache and spent almost three hours there, from 9:30 to 12:30, without anyone actually treating the tooth that was hurting. Instead, they forced a bundle of services I did not ask for, charged me upfront, kept me waiting forever. From the start, the experience felt like a high-pressure sales operation rather than a dental visit. As a new patient, I was told I had to agree to a whole bundle of services I did not ask for, including a comprehensive exam, multiple x-rays, panoramic/3D imaging, and an oral cancer screening. When I questioned why all of that was necessary for a toothache visit, the front desk receptionist was rude and dismissive. Instead of explaining things respectfully, her response was essentially, "Are you the doctor?" That was the tone from the beginning. Especially for the oral cancer screening. I told them I have done that last year and don't need it. I just need my aching tooth addressed. I was told they are not allowed to take new patient without cancer screening, which is BS. Because I was in pain and did not want to leave without help, I reluctantly agreed and paid upfront, including more than $150 out of pocket. Requiring payment before I was even seen was already a red flag. What followed was worse. I waited an extremely long time for them to even call me. Then at 10:45 someone called me in and took a bunch of xrays and picturesm. Then I sat in the dental chair for almost an hour untill 11:40 with nobody coming in. Eventually a hygienist came in, did what they called an oral cancer screening, which appeared to be nothing more than a quick visual look, and then immediately shifted into pushing deep cleaning and extra products. The conversation was not centered on my tooth pain. It was centered on selling me treatment I had not come in for. When I finally got to "see the dentist," he was not even there in person. He appeared by video call. A video call for a patient who came in with active tooth pain! He repeated the same sales pitch about cleaning and add-ons, but when I asked about the painful tooth, i was told I would need a separate appointment for that ! THAT WAS WHATVIBWAS THERE FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE!. So after nearly three hours, mandatory imaging, screening, and payment, the actual problem I came in for was still not addressed. Then they presented me with an estimate of over $4,300 for cleaning-related treatment, even with insurance. who on earth charges $4000+ for cleaning with insurance. Even if it's deep cleaning which i have done before and it was no where near that number. That, combined with the dramatic language and pressure tactics, made the entire visit feel deeply misleading and manipulative. The healthscare tactics used to shamelessly push for their treatments were so obvious to anyone with a basic medical understanding. They weren't even good at scamming. Long story short, I came in for a toothache and left with no diagnosis, no treatment, no medication, no relief, and a bill. The office itself also did not inspire confidence. The chairs and equipment looked worn, the space did not feel clean, and the overall environment added to the sense that this place was not operating with the professionalism or patient care standards it should. In my opinion, this clinic uses fear, pressure, and bundled services to push patients into unnecessary charges while ignoring the reason they came in. My daughter was supposed to have her first appointment here but we waited for over 1 hour. No one ever communicated with us about a delay or apologized for our wait. When I inquired about an estimated time to be seen I was told 10 minutes but that time never came. Cindy is the worst. Do NOT GO TO Coast Dental. Even if it's your last option, it's not worth it unless you want to waste your time and money. TLDR: They refused to clean my teeth unless I paid $421 for a "deep cleaning", after waiting 2.25 hours, and paying $94 in advance for things I did not want. I walked out. FULL story: I never write reviews, but I don't want others to get scammed like I did. My regular dentist of 8 years recently stopped taking my insurance, I contacted every other office listed on my insurance, and unfortunately Coast was the only one who still takes the insurance that I am stuck with until the end of this year. They were my last option, and I was hesitant because I had actually gone there 8 years ago and knew they were not good. I just needed a cleaning. I have been going to the dentist every 6 months for the last 10 years; my teeth are in great shape. FIRST, I arrived right at 8AM when they opened, I was the 2nd person in the door. I waited until 10:15AM to be seen, after everyone who had arrived at 8am, 830am, 9am, and 930am. I repeatedly asked why I wasn't being seen, they kept saying 5 more minutes. SECOND, they made me PAY in advance. I have never been asked to do that at any dentist office. I've had the same insurance for 8 years, it is always $10 copay for exam and cleaning (incl x-rays if needed). BEWARE: they charge $74 for an "oral cancer screening" and insurance does not cover it. I said, "I don't want it". And they said I could NOT be seen at the office unless I purchased the $74 screening. I regret not walking out then - I should have! I justified to myself, that if that is what I had to pay to get a cleaning this year, it would be worth it. I had only been waiting 50 minutes at that point. Then they had my money... while I waited another 85 minutes. THIRD, I was brought back and the hygienist did the probe, poking me so hard in several places I jumped. Then she told me I was bleeding from the probe, which indicated gingivitis thus I needed a "deep cleaning" (which is not true, my hygienist for the last 8 years has always said I have very healthy gums and I floss and brush daily). FOURTH, there is NO DENTIST on site. The hygienist called him on Zoom, she told him I needed a deep cleaning, he looked at my x-rays (that I brought with me from 9 months ago), and then said, "good news, you don't have any cavities" (no sh*t sherlock, those are x-rays were already reviewed by my previous dentist). FIFTH and FINAL, they came in with my treatment plan, $421 for the "deep cleaning"! I said, "No thank you, I just want the regular cleaning, please". They refused. I asked repeatedly to just have my teeth cleaned. They said I CANNOT get a regular cleaning (which would be covered by my insurance). They said they cannot change the order from the dentist. I asked them to call the dentist back. They said, "we don't do that". I walked out. They have my $95 in cash and the insurance money they will surely claim for the "exam". I don't typically leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I initially visited this office after breaking a tooth. At the time, I was 16 weeks pregnant. After taking X-rays, I was told I needed over $6,000 worth of dental work. I was upfront and explained that while I was willing to move forward with some treatment, I could not afford to complete everything that was recommended. The staff appeared to understand, and I signed paperwork and scheduled a follow-up appointment. I clearly requested that my next appointment be scheduled only for the broken tooth and one filling, since I would already be numb. However, when I arrived for my appointment, I was informed that I had been scheduled for a root canal and four fillings. I immediately told them that this was not what I had agreed to. I felt my concerns were dismissed, and I was told, "we might as well do it since you'll already be numb." Being pregnant and already feeling vulnerable, this situation caused me significant distress and led to a panic attack. Only after that did they agree to proceed with just the two teeth I had originally consented to. What was most concerning was that in the MIDDLE OF MY APPOINTMENT, WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE DENTAL CHAIR, I was brought paperwork to sign. I read over some of the paperwork and some of it I didn't sign because it was for work I was NOT getting done that day, the women told me to just go ahead and sign it... Like WTF?! I later discovered that the reason they were pushing me to go ahead and get it done was because they had already charged my CareCredit card the full pre-approved amount of $4,600 for work that I had clearly stated I was not agreeing to and had not scheduled. I left feeling overwhelmed, unheard, and extremely uncomfortable with how my treatment and finances were handled. This was literally the absolute worst experience I've ever had with any dentists office in my LIFE. I went in as a new patient, to get a cleaning and some x-rays. I went in so happy to finally get seen by a dentist, especially with how long I waited. But in a short period of time, I learned how fraudulent and money hungry these scam artists are. They charged me $128 WITH insurance for a cleaning and X-rays. Want to know why? They have a fee for "Oral cancer diagnosis test" It was $70. Initially, I didn't catch it until I reviewed the itemization I took a picture of before I went back, so when the tech came in the start my exam, I advised I would like that service removed and would like a refund for it, as I'm 26 and I have no sores in my mouth and really no need to pay for that service when my insurance doesn't cover it. The tech then told me at coast dental it's in their policy and that if you don't get the oral cancer screening the dentist won't see you. You're literally forced to pay (out of pocket I might add) for a service *they* want you to have, you have no say so in it. The front office lady was incredibly rude about the entire thing. She said "well you already paid for it" and I advised it was my right as a patient to change my mind about a service I don't want to be provided. She talked to me like I was an idiot for wanting a refund. I left that office in tears. I called my mom and was crying in the parking lot with how god awful my experience was. My mom called and talked to the front desk lady, and to no one's surprise, she was rude to my mother as well. She told my mom because I wasn't "professional" things went down hill. I didn't yell, I didn't cuss, but I was incredibly disappointed in being told I had no say no in my oral care services. I pay for my insurance, I should be able to choose what gets done to my mouth. Which was ultimately the reason I left, policy or not, it's idiotic. They also advised it would take 10-12 weeks for a refund. All I had done was X-rays (which my insurance pays for) mind you, this refund is for services that WERE NOT rendered by the way. Which is literally fraud. Like you can't give me my money back for 10-12 weeks when you didn't do any services I was charged for? My first visit, I ended up waiting 2 hours for a 5-minute exam, only to hear the exact same information I was given at the Newberry office. My conclusion from my visit is that I felt like I was taken for a ride. 1. They had almost immediate availability, which should have been more of a red flag. 2. Make you pay upfront instead of after the appointment. 3. 2 people were actively threatening BBB investigations and legal action in the wait room. 4. Everyone was waiting for at least 1 hour plus, including me. 5. They make you pay 70 bucks to shine UV light in your mouth for a cancer screening, non-negotiable, up-front. I'm 26 and not a smoker. I'm not gonna have oral cancer. (No insurance covers any of this either) 6. NO ACTUAL DOCTOR, just a TELEHEALTH dentist, on a tv screen, in the office. Which is insane. But they don't tell you this until you check in. There was no dentist in that day. 5. I wanted a cleaning, which my insurance covers. They made me pay 250 for a "gingivitis cleaning" which is the same thing as a cleaning but with numbing cream and extra products they include as part of the treatment that you can buy anywhere else for half price. The gingivitis was not covered by my insurance and i asked to have a regular cleaning and they refused. Felt like I was at an autobody shop and they were trying to upsell me on tires. 6. I left the office and two dental assistants were smoking out front. Which nothing wrong with smoking anywhere else, but like that just shows they do not actually care about their teeth or public perception. 7. I felt bad afterward. Chose Coast because they were one of the few dental offices that took my DHMO Sun Life dental insurance through the state of Florida. First appointment as a new patient and they wanted $1,000 out the door. Yes, they do take my insurance, but they don't agree to the charge schedule set by the insurance company. The whole point of DHMO is that the dental provider agrees to the reimbursement schedule from the insurance company. Why not just tell me up front that you take my insurance but you don't agree to the reimbursement schedule and that I may have to come out of pocket for a significant amount of money above and beyond the reimbursement amount? They wasted my time, and it's a nice little grift, but not one that I'm going to participate in. read more

This individual never entered me into the system and when the date of my appointment arrived three weeks later, there was no record of my appointment and I need to make another one for 3 weeks later. I received a text informing me of my upcoming appointment and when I went in, I was given the wrong date in the text and wasted an hour in the office. Someone at the front had crossed out my name on the check in list even though I had not been checked in by anyone. I am loosing money not being at work and it was all for nothing. Dilora was at the front desk on Sept 21, 2023. The absolute worst experience with customer service. She asked for a UCard for my mom and was adamant that she should have one. Saying it's her responsibility to bring the right card. Mumbled under her breath and kept saying uh huh after we sat down; thinking I didn't hear her but I let her know that kind of behavior was best left at home. Called insurance company while there and the agent explained there is only one card now. Dilora then accepted the insurance card saying she didn't know. No apologies for her rude and childish behavior, which was akin to a teenager. The receptionist blamed me for the cancellation because I didn't call them back...the day before the appointment, when I was busy out in the field all that day. My experience with the dentist and dental hygienists was always excellent. Unfortunately, office staff, including district manager, was very bad. Appointments were made, confirmed, and then cancelled at the last minute. Also, made appointment for crown placement and staff didn't bother to verify crown had been received in office. My dental plan was incorrectly billed for multiple visits and staff just refused to take simple step of contacting my provider. District manager finally came in to resolve and was extremely unpleasant. After 30 mins, she agreed to call provider and discovered office staff's error. Plan paid. But no apology to me, just a smug smirk. No wonder office staff weren't professional. I will start by saying that I was a new patient. Did all my paperwork on line. First thing the front end wanted was for me to complete the paperwork that I submitted online. I was the first appointment of the day and still waited in the front lobby approximately 20 minutes. Once called back I was advised that I needed 35 x-rays. Told her I didn't need them because that were done at my last dental cleaning and she told me that if it wasn't coast I had to have them done. They wanted to $97 for a cancer screening that I denied. After the x-rays and evaluation I spoke to a dentist via a computer screen. They wanted $308 to clean my teeth and wouldn't do just a basic cleaning. I left! I Just moved to Florida from Indiana. New insurance, but I've had this insurance before. I have had 2 dentist in my life of 64 years and have never had a dentist try to charge me that for a cleaning! I will go back to Indiana and have my teeth cleaned for $97 without insurance. Also, the building was outdated and dirty. read more

this is the worst most incompetent and inconsiderate place I have ever been in contact with. I was sent a text confirmation confirming my appointment and drove over an hour (calling the office the entire time) nobody answers the phone. when we arrived the turned us away stating that the website only sends an appointment request and they only have one doctor. zero stars read more

Money hungry dental, unethical, horrible, get all your money as soon as they can. I came for my cleaning and it was $500 plus, with insurance. I got up and walked out the door. Will never go again. I also wish I could give Negative stars. everything is horrible here. if any other dental practice took my insurance I would leave. I've been trying to have my wisdom teeth pulled for 5 months now. the past two months they cancelled The day Before; via TEXT. it says to call the office and nobody answers because they are understaffed. they would rather use a call center that has now 4 times tried to convince me I was going in for a cleaning when I'm going in for SURGERY. surgery that requires time off work to recover and must be put in Ahead of time for my job. By not calling and speaking to anyone, my job is now at risk since I have approved time off for a medical procedure I don't even know if I can get there at all since the text was vague and nobody answers the phone. I can only reach anyone by showing up which is not always possible. don't waste your time calling. they clearly don't value their staff in the actual building (who have been amazing when I'm able to speak with them) and they clearly don't value their patients since they have not done anything about their Constant negative feedback. in summary: staff is amazing. company is s**t. I have yet another infection since they have continuously cancelled via Text so that I can't speak to anyone and find out Why or Reschedule. at this point it would save me time and sanity taking business elsewhere. theyre the ones missing out in the money for a SURGERY ill take my money elsewhere so I keep my sanity. read more
