My mom had an appointment here last month. The dentist and his staff were very welcoming and fixed one of the 2 problems my mother came in for. The other one we are still making a decision on. My mom has lived in the area for many years and remembered the set up from back then and saw the changes now. Her and the staff remanenced of how the old office looked. 2nd appt. The first one was OK, Hygienists, receptionist and DR were very nice and professional. The Office Manager is a very angry offensive person. I'm in the waiting room w/a new patient. She was there for periodontal consult. It's 8AM. They tell her she needs xrays, she said she got them last week at her actual Dentist. They tell her he doesn't open until 9 and they have to reschedule her. She asked them why they did not tell her she needed to bring them or else she would have brought them. She did not understand she was only there for a consult. They told her it was her responsibility. She sat back down while they were looking to reschedule her later today. She looked at me & asked, "am I wrong?' I said no, I agree with you. That is why we are here, we are not Dentist, we don't know what we don't know, you are a new patient, they should have asked you if you had them and request you bring them. That was it. They told her they could not fit her in today, would she like another day? She said no. As she was walking out she said, good luck and I said, "I'll be fine. I hope your day gets better. " That's all. I sat there looking at my phone, the Office Manager says to me, "Do you want to cancel your appt too?" I just looked at her bewildered. The receptionist was about to tell her I'm a different patient and she cut her off and said, yeah but she just made a comment that she thinks we should have asked that girl. She asked me, "Is that what you think?' I said, Yes, actually I do. She said, 'Well it's the patients responsibility to bring them." I said, "I don't agree sorry. She is a NEW patient, You are the professional, we are not Dentist that is why we are here. I think you should have asked with her." She continues to ask me questions, I answer them. Not liking my answers, she proceeds to ask, "why are you getting so hostile?" Shocked, " I said me??? I was just sitting here, you approached me asking me a question and b/c you don't like what I said, I'm the hostile one?" She proceeded to harass me, telling me she is the OM. I was like, is this serious? So I said, you know what, yes, cancel my appt, may I please have my xrays I paid $500 for 2 weeks ago? The OM proceeded to talk and I said, "I don't want to talk to you anymore, you are rude, I'll talk to this nice young lady." The young lady confirmed my email address and I walked out. Then I thought, Wait, she is the OM, a hired professional, I did nothing wrong. The Dr. needs to hear this. I went back in, said I want to keep my appt and tell the DR. about her. She said, the Dr already knows. I said, yes your perspective, they need to hear mine. This is crazy, you are the OM, a paid professional who sets the tone in this office and you are harassing me simply b/c you don't like the answer to your question. She said, We DISMISSED you as a customer. With a big smile on her face. We were going back and forth & 3 ladies came out and asked me to leave and I said NO, I want to talk to the DR. I paid $500 2 weeks ago and about to spend $700 just to come here and get harassed, for no reason. She proceeded to get right in my face and pointed her finger in my face, scolding me. I told her about 5 times to get her finger out of my face and just kept saying you ladies are the professionals, I'm the CUSTOMER. She kept pointing her finger in my face and I kept telling her get your finger out of my face. By the 10th time, I grabbed her finger and pushed it away from my face. All the ladies were like,' OMG you just assaulted her, call 911." I'm like what! I told her 10 times to get her finger out of my face! I'm the customer here! Now there are 3-4 more ladies in the lobby and then this woman all dressed in green comes running out of the back room, gets in my face and says, "get the FUCK OUT OF HERE FUCKING BITCH!" I backed up and said, "Get out of my face." This one girl was like I called 911. I said, "Good, who cares what are they going to do? "The OM said you assaulted me. I said, " I did not, I told you 15 times to get your finger out of my face! " Now there are ~10 of them . I started walking out. The OM comes through the other door, meets me outside and continues to yell at me, pointing her finger in my face. I'm like "OMG, get your finger out of my face. Who the hell to you think you are?" This nice young lady came out with a white coat on and said to me, Mam, please just leave. I was already out in the parking lot so I left. I hope there are cameras with sound. I honestly felt like I was in the twilight zone. I called corporate and the DM is supposed to call me back. I'm an IT Project Manager. IF I ever treated or talked to a customer that way, I would be fired on the spot and rightfully so! I can't even fathom the Dental Assistant in green, dropping F bombs like we were out in the street. The first time I went there they couldn't find my appt. For some reason even though I gave them my name and all correspondences were in my name, my appt was under my husbands name. I did like the female dentist so I thought I'd setup a new patient account. Everything went well with the dentist, but them I saw the male hygenist and he just kept saying pockets, pockets pockets! Came back with a plan that my insurance paid most of but still billed me $500. I was not feeling comfortable with him or his plan, so I left. Then I get a bill for my initial visit. Because they take 2 full photos of your mouth the insurance only pays for one of them. I was informed that I signed something that I would pay whatever insurance didnt cover, so they have been bumbarding me with mail, email and text. I told them medicare said I dont owe anything. I will not be going back. Seems like they are more into profit than care of patient. Plus very sterile feel. read more

Pros: 1. Clean office 2. Most of the staff is extremely nice, including the hygienist. Cons: 1. I watched a front desk worker make fun of and make faces behind the back of a developmentally disabled person. 2. Tried to upsell me more than once. I bent a little and bought one item that once I got it home saw clearly that I didn't need it, as I already had mouth moisture products that were covered by my plan. 3. Quoted me one price and ended up paying a lot more than that, with insurance. Made me go back out to the car in the heavy downpour with a walker to pay the rest of the disputed bill. Watched as the gentlemen next to me also had a dispute with his bill. 4. Probably the worst aspect, after the way the woman at the desk treated a client was being squeezed into a dental chair that clearly didn't fit me. I was sore for days. Had trouble getting into it and had them close the armrest down on my body, so I was wedged in. When I suggested that they have at least one chair that was more accommodating, that surely I couldn't be the only person to complain about this issue, I was told that they get one standard type/size of chair. They didn't even offer to pass that info along to corporate. Not going to bother, I'll just look for a place more accommodating, being that I've never had that happen at any dental office, even recently, so I know it's them and their chairs and not me. read more

Although the staff is very nice, the office is very disorganized. They were constantly messing up my appointments. Either they didn't have me in the system or they canceled the appointments to schedule for another day. And my billing was ALWAYS wrong. They double billed me for one visit, but I paid the bill anyway. My next visit, I go to pay my copay at checkout and was told that I had a credit (probably because of the double billing). So I didn't have to pay anything. Then a month later, I get a bill for $236. They are very difficult to reach by phone to resolve any issues. I'm done dealing with them. I worked for Coast Dental for nearly 2 years as a receptionist. Worst job I ever had. All about the money. They use a 3rd part company in India to make the appointments and they get 65 cents every time they put a client on the board. It's their incentive to move patient and cancel appointments to reschedule and get that pay again. We were not allowed to say that it's a third party (the calls would go to India and they would swear they were in the Florida office) so patients would come in pissed off, and rightfully so, with no appt on the board and again we couldn't say it was the third party so everyone thinks the front desk just continues to mess up. Everything is a money grab. Upsell...bump the lower paying patients for those that bring in more money. Place is NEVER sanitized. I went to the office to make sure they took my insurance and schedule an appointment. The receptionist was rude to me as I tried to explain my insurance was Envolve. Not Medicaid. She told me she has eyes and could read. I was astonished she said that. Then she went back to another lady and asked her. This lady blurted our that Ambetter a was Medicaid and they didn't take it. I left after I told the two that I wasn't a Medicaid patient. I then called their offices in Tampa and told them what happened. The representative told me they did take my insurance. I believe I was discriminated against even thought I am not on Medicaid. Everyone deserves to be treated respectfully and not refused service. Don't go there. MOST of my experiences in this office have been amazing. Miss Brenda, Angelica, Karen, and even Doctor P are all beyond amazing. They go above and beyond for the care provided to the patients that come through the office. They all go out of their way to provide the best care they can offer us, whether it be over the phone or standing in the lobby. The few bad experiences ive had have been with Lorraine. I've first hand witnessed her tell patients what the doctor is and isn't going to do, arguing with patients in the lobby, and speaking down at them like they're beneath her. I myself have called a few times and gotten Lorraine, who every chance she got had a condescending tone and pushed aside what I was saying. I've called and requested call backs for situations regarding my dental care and she hasn't passed the message along, and when her patient care attitude has been addressed she brushed off the concerns. The actual Dentist is Marvelous however beware of the staff. Me and my husband went here. Multiple times I would show up to a scheduled apt and then be told I don't have one. Doesn't matter what proof you show them.... your wrong they are right. No customer service at all. You ask to speak to someone in charge and the receptionist who answers the phone and checks out people is supposedly in charge. Obviously understaffed. Happened to me too many times I changed dentist my husband decided to stay with them until today. Example: He had an issue with a filling he had last week. I called and spoke to the actual office on Tuesday 10/25 and scheduled an apt for 10/28/2022. My husband shows up for his apt (in pain for about 1week waiting for this visit) and was turned away saying they don't have him on the schedule and book him for December!!!!! I call back the office. Same thing they always say there is no apt. I said there is no evidence I called no telephone message that I called about his pain. Then was told they do not document calls like that. So basically you have to trust whomever you are speaking too is ACTUALLY putting you on the schedule or else there is no proof you called or anything. Its your word against there's. No type of accountability or accommodation for the patient that is suffering because of their errors. My husband whom is a patient for years was just told to wait until December in pain and would be called if there are cancellations. This front office is a joke! I actually got a chill down my spine when I noticed the loose, grimy ceiling tiles that haven't been replaced or cleaned - well - ever. But I could, reluctantly, dismiss that. They spend more time trying to sell you extras then taking care of you. I went there because I wanted my FREE cleaning and some other work done. The hygienst is the worst and LAURIE from the front desk is crude and tries to double talk you. In june i went to have my cleaning. They said I had periodontal work that needed to be done. They did the work and set me for another apt. Came back for cleaning and check up, nope still need more work. Both times Im getting bills for hundrends of dollars. Each time they are trying to sell me extra products. Its November and still no cleaning done. I called to cancel my apt and got Laurie, she seems concerned but when I told her I wanted my free cleaning she said we wont do that until all other work is completed first. I said you can do the cleaning, her reply not thats not what the DR said. Hmmm is the hygienist a DR now?? I said the insurance advised it would be covered. Her reply was....we wont do it thats not what the dr said. Again what DR???? I said what if i didnt have the money to pay the extras you would not do the cleaning. You only see me cause Im paying extra. I asked what if I didnt have the extra money to pay would you not treat me? Her reply we wouldnt do that. This is no law, rules about them not doing the FREE cleaning. This is their way to try to get more and more money. They refused to do my cleaning until all of the extra work was done and paid for. I moved back to the area from Texas and had to find a dentist quick. I had a lot of damaged and missing teeth due to (previous) domestic violence and seizures. They got me in and referred to an oral surgeon quickly (due to the amount of work needed and my allergies and medical issues I needed to be fully sedate). The whole staff was amazing to me and helped me get new teeth to start taking my life back from my abuser and start feeling like me. The dentist and the rest of the staff were just as excited as I was when I put my new teeth in. They always made sure they kept me updated as far as if they got my "try-ons" in early and called me in for a sooner appointment when my final teeth came in. Went to coastal dentist with my wife who needed some dental work done..they divided the treatments into 4-5 stages. After 2, stages were complete at a cost of over 3000.00 which was paid in full then 2 months later I received a bill for 72 bucks, told me it was a balance from 1st visit for the X-rays. In a two week period I received 3,letters for a delinquent bill. Left 2 messages on voice mail with no return calls. Went and paid the bill so they don't screw up my credit...still no answer why after 60 days they decided to bill me...RIPOFF artist...get a private dentist, WE ARE....... read more

They pulled the we can't clean your tears because you need extensive periodontill work gave me a treatment plan for close to a $1000 and then out right lied to me and said it was against the law for them to do it . Checked sorry no such thing . Also said I had three small cavities and wanted another $800 for that . Guess what went to a privatedentist and wow they cleaned my teeth and never heard of any law in regards to cleaning teeth. No here comes the real kicker I only had one cavity not three and he repaired it for $140 . The x rays that coast took were absolutely useless not even digital the new dentist took x-rays clean my teeth and examination was $125. Liked the Dentist, liked the staff but wasn't happy with the hygienist. I think they are there to sell you stuff rather than clean your teeth. The hygienist said he did a "deep cleaning" - don't buy it. What he did would have been considered an exam from my hygienist in New York! He polished my teeth BEFORE he did anything....I never heard of such a thing. When I called to make the appointment, I told them I was a new patient and wanted a cleaning. Lo and behold, they don't do that there. You get x-rays and see the dentist and then are told to come back to see the hygienist. I just came from an appointment at Coast Dental. I was supposed to get my teeth cleaned. They told me that anyone who had a history of Periodontal Disease would not be allowed to have a regular "teeth cleaning". That is, the patient would have to be examined by the dentist, then they would follow the recommendations of the Dentist as to the follow-up cleaning or whatever. They said they could not just clean my teeth. Well, that is just great, why then did they not tell me this in advance? I spoke in great detail with the Receptionist prior to the appointment. Not a mention of this requirement. My take is the Dentist is all out for the money. They will take you for as much as you have. They do not care about you, one iota. Its all about the money. I adore this practice. Lori the receptionist is so sweet and welcoming. Brenda is always accommodating when I need to schedule / reschedule appointments due to my work hours and is so nice. Both dental assistants Kiesha and Heather are phenomenal. They are so fun to talk to and are great at their jobs. Dr. Paternoster is the best dentist I've been to besides my grandfather who was a D.M.D. He is very patient, he listens to every concern I have ever had and takes those concerns seriously. I have always been an anxious person when it comes to getting dental work done, but I feel so at ease knowing I'm in good hands and surrounded by this amazing team of professionals. My husband recently had an appointment here. They assured us that our insurance would pay everything. He was back in the room for two hours while they took xrays and then just left him sit in the chair. They then told him he could not get his teeth cleaned but would treat his gums for $1000 dollars so they could clean his teeth. My husband does not have a gum disease. They then charged us $45 for exrays they said were covered 100%. They are after the almighty dollar! read more

I absolutely love Dr.Richard and the staff at Coast Dental. I started getting dental work there about 4 years ago and they have always made me feel like family. From the moment you walk in the door the service is outstanding from the front desk to the back. Brenda the Office Manager has the most awesome personality. I love her to pieces. Dr.Richard has an outstanding way of making you feel comfortable and his work is amazing. What took my previous dentist 10 years to try to do Dr. Richard was able to do in one session. Dr. Richard and his assistant work so well together it is so refreashing to see people so insinc with each other that they work so well together. I recommend anyone who needs a dentist to go there. I have dental insurance, but it limits me to franchise dental groups. I have had terrible experiences with places like Aspen. I had two back teeth that broke. I went to two other places that only wanted to discus and have me commit to implants at $2000+. Sure I would love to do that, but I am an elementary school teacher. I can't afford that. I called other places to get the teeth pulled and they would only offer the option of being put to sleep at a minimum cost of $800 per tooth. I didn't see the need to be put to sleep. As I was working my way through the in-network dental list, I came to Coastal Dental. Checked it online. Found it to be close to home. Did the online 'emergency' appointment scheduling option and never heard back. About a week later I called the local office. Told the lady what was going on and was given an appointment for about a week and a half later. The appointment was for Friday at 1. At about noon, I got a polite call asking if I could come in earlier. I could so I did. Waited a little, but not too long. They took x-rays and said the teeth could not be saved(I already knew that to be true). I was a bit worried that I would be told I needed to come back. I could tell the office was trying to close up early for the weekend. That was not the case. The dental assistant, Heather(?) was great and reassured me that I would be taken care of. DR. Paternoster was very polite. He began to numb my mouth. Unfortunately, one side was just not getting numb. It took many shots. Although they wanted to close up for the day, they in no way rushed me and took lots of extra time and care to make sure I didn't feel pain. While actually pulling the teeth, Dr. Paternoster continued to check on how I was feeling and explained step by step what he was doing and what was happening. Both Dr, Paternoster and his assistant were so patient, respectful and kind. I did not get an itemized bill so I have no idea what was charged to my insurance. I had a $6 balance due for the x-rays they took and $640 fee for the tooth pulling and applying a graphing substance. Still a lot of money for me, but needed it over with. I understand that Dr. Paternoster does not set the prices as this is a franchise. I have not had experience with them as far as policies for cleaning as others here are reviewing. Dr. Paternoster prescribed a round of antibiotics and a couple of days worth of Acetaminophen/cod#3. His staff made sure to tell me that if I had any issues over the weekend I should call the office, listen to the end of the message and it would tell me how to get in touch with Dr. Paternoster over the weekend. They talked to me about the possibility of possibly doing implants in the future. The assistant verbally gave me costs of that , but did not give me the paperwork print out of those cost to take with me. :( All and all, I do not like franchises, but that is what my insurance has for in-network. The cost in addition to my insurance seems high, but without itemized bill I do not know what was billed to the insurance. I will have to wait to see my report from the insurance company. As far as the skill and attitude of the Dr. Paternoster and his assistant (Heather?), I couldn't ask for a better experience. read more

They don't seem to be able to properly advise you of what your insurance is and isn't going to cover prior to an appointment or follow-up. If I hadn't called my insurance company, I would have been surprised with a BIG bill during a follow-up. Dr. May seemed more concerned about correcting my grammar and getting to his next patient than spending any time with me to explain the procedure he was recommending that I see a specialist for. He never even looked inside of my mouth! I couldn't see their specialist for over three weeks and the office staff wouldn't even consider allowing me to visit another location to get help quicker, since I was struggling to eat and talk - plus missing work. I felt that there was NO privacy without any doors and with shared x-ray machines between two rooms, I could even see through to the room beside me and hear everything going on. While getting a second opinion for the problem I was having, I was told that they didn't understand how the treatment plan recommended was going to work.
