Use Compass Credit Union or Redwood Bank, they have the same services. Bigger doesn't always mean better.

As long as I have a ID & bank card. It's not right that the staff can't help me go Paperless. Plus making it harder to put cash into my friends account. read more

I chose CCCU because I wanted to support local, but this bank does not have the infrastructure available to help customers the way a credit union should. Horrible online banking system/app, long hold times via phone, poor in-person experiences, and bad communication resulting in fees and collections. I gave 2 stars instead of one because the time I did talk to an actual person over the phone, they were really helpful; specifically Sarah and Ember. I have hope in local banking, but CCCU does need an upgrade before I decide to bank with them again. read more

I do not trust this establishment with my money. My local branch is in Weaverville, the physical building looks sweetly decorated and clean. Whoever designed it clearly had good intentions. My concern was with an employee who was talking about jiggling her breasts when requested to by a man behind a desk. I addressed this concern with the establishment requesting training be provided to the employees, who responded to me in defensiveness to my request and a declaration to investigate. Nothing was reported. I was later informed by another customer of theirs that this same employee was nonchalantly bragging about their attempted hacking of accounts adventure, which I relayed to HR. They started harassing us when they couldn't get what they wanted from us, instead of training their employees. This is when we started to remove our money and place it in trusted and beneficial hands. I am relieved to say that we are no longer funding this behaviour. If you like this behaviour, this is the place for you. If not, get as far away as you can from this place. They only care about what they can get from you (legally or not... white people are given freedom to break laws here in Trinity County, forest service workers (fire "fighters") drink drive around these parts with babies in their vehicles... be advised on what you are funding here). I can see why this bank has such low ratings after reading their reviews and talking to friends and family members that have banked with them. My complaint has nothing to do with poor customer service or the manager that works at the Harrison Street Branch in Eureka. My complaint is about the fact that when you ask for a print out of anything to do with your account, they charge you $5.00 for each page. That may not sound like much, but when you get a print out of a few months worth of statements it could cost you $30 + dollars. Wells Fargo and Chase will print out statements for free for the customers. It doesn't matter how long you've been a loyal customer with Coast Central Credit Union, they will still charge you $5.00 per page when it cost them about .05 cents to print a copy for you. read more

This institution was recommended to me by a neighbor. I wanted to invest locally and so I changed all my banking over to this McKinleyville bank. Don't do it. Rude, incompetent, I pray never to have a dispute. I was there to open a huge CD account and the girl I worked with so was rude, and did not know what she was doing. Maybe she was new, maybe having a bad day, either way she should NOT be in a customer facing position. There is a customer comment card I took with me intending to leave a review but the card is focused on telling them how great their people are. NO. 1.Glitchy app. It once actually logged me into a whole different person's account showed me a whole different list of transactions that I had nothing to with, along different account balance. If the wrong person had gained this type of access through through CCCU's own doing they could have easily transferred funds to a different account. Besides this companies antiquated payments methods and online banking they recently charged me $585 for one month of auto insurance because I added insurance late to my auto loan. That is what most insurance companies would charge for an entire year. It will raise the auto payment by $50 a month. Finding a new place to bank. read more

Service monthly fees will put your accounts in negative if you don't regularly use your bank. Once they put your account in red you have 14 days to pay the negative balance of the monthly fee or they will turn you in. A member is a coward to this bank. I'm about to lose my house because they can't communicate. Today... I thought it couldn't be any easier. I called them promptly at 8:30 am, and talked to their Customer Care center. I informed them that a wire transfer was to be done by a member, our grandmother, forwarding over 10k worth of funds. I informed them these were specific wiring instructions, and asked what they wanted for the cover letter. They asked for her name, the location of the bank (McKinleyville), my routing number which would be on the transfer, as well as the amount. She said she would get it and forward it onto the bank. ... done. I even called and left a message with the Bank Manager, Kelsey Dunn, to confirm and please call me if they had any questions. My bank created the cover, and sent it over at 8:48am. I call later at just before 11am to confirm they had gotten it. When I informed a different customer care person, they hadn't an idea about the fax, unsure if it came through, and asked which fax number we sent it to. I told them, they said it was right, but didn't see a fax. I said I'd get the bank to fax it again. BUT, went over the information again, JUST to make sure it was right, and she said yes, it was. I called my bank, they confirmed the other went through, and resent the whole thing again. I called the Customer Care center at 11:08am to confirm it came through. They checked the same fax, and sure enough, it was there. They then said that the wiring instructions had two banks on it... which I explained, it's a whole set of instructions, and should detail how it works. She then read it and saw that it was INSTRUCTIONS... which is what they requested as well. And she would get them to their SUPERVISOR. I called the McKinleyville Bank Manager, Kelsey Dunn, again, and ask her to please call me with confirmation of the wire transfer and/or instructions that they should be getting. I called the customer service center again at 1pm, to see if they had any troubles with the transfer. They said the did not see any transfers at all from that location (McKinleyville). I asked my wife to call her grandmother, and she said her grandmother was turned away when she didn't have INSTRUCTIONS needed for the wire transfer. I am immediately fuming beyond all fucking comprehension at this point. I call, and ask to talk to a manager, and get the supervisor, Shelby Thompson. She tells me that the person has never come in, and nobody remember talking to anyone of that name. I inform her, that she was turned away... because she didn't have the instructions... the very fucking ones I have sent twice, and left messages with the bank managers, and have talked with customer care center five fucking times today, detailing every bit of information that could be detailed... and SOMEHOW, SOME... HOW... nobody has been able to get them to the bank. ... she then said she'd "walk" them over. I asked what she meant by "walk", and she says that they're in the same office as the McKinleyville credit union, so she could just walk them over.... It's now 2:00pm here... by bank has closed in the Midwest, and I'm on the cusp of losing our house... simply because not one... single... fucking... person... could "walk" over to give the wiring instructions, to the person handling the wiring... I don't even have the words of how angry at the entirety of the incompetence of this whole situation is. read more

Coast Central Credit Union was an unfortunate choice for my recent mortgage application on a new primary residence. Rather than using my trusted broker, with whom I have previously purchased property and built a solid business relationship, CCCU lured me to their services with the implication that they could get the deal done. As a longstanding member of the credit union, I was surprised by how little effort CCCU put into my transaction once appraisal difficulties arose. Their Loan Officer, though friendly, was either not as knowledgeable as she claimed during her hard sell-up, or not forthcoming about the risks and pitfalls which lay waiting. Every challenge that arose during my transaction could have been better identified and planned for upfront by CCCU. Instead, CCCU used each challenge as an opportunity to steer me into a more costly loan option, all the while implying that my expectations for conventional financing were not reasonable. In one instance, after an initial appraisal inspection, CCCU gave me a list of "fix-it" items required for financing. After completing these fixes at my own expense and risk (~$3000) it was implied to me that the transaction would proceed smoothly. However, what came next was a ridiculously low valuation by the appraiser, based on horrible comps, inaccurate information in the document, and rejection of our application by the Private Mortgage Insurance company. None of these adverse possibilities were raised by CCCU before I invested thousands of dollars in repairs at my own risk. Due to the fact that the appraiser left for a vacation after submitting his report, CCCU was not readily willing to consider new comparables and it was signaled to me that paying for a new appraisal may be futile as CCCU was anchored to the original report. In the end, my CCCU loan officer implied it was my unrealistic expectations which set us up for failure. This opinion was not validated by the facts that followed.... I switched back to my established lender after my CCCU application failed. Thankfully we were granted an escrow extension by the Seller after CCCU wasted our first 45 days. My new broker closed the deal with no hiccups within the extended escrow period. The new appraisal came in above my purchase price and $40,000 above CCCU's appraisal. This validated my impression that CCCU acted incompetently. I don't know whether the source of their ineffectiveness is rooted in their policies or philosophy but I will never attempt to use their services again and will speak against their services into the future. The only reason you would like or give a positive review to Coast Central is either you have no other option or you have never done banking at any other institution. I see some people saying, I've been a long time customer and just love their small town cozy and comfortable vibe....right. Coast Central is anything but helpful. I have been a customer for almost 20 years and this shit shack is a real clown show. Not only that, I have a business and profession and that makes no one cent difference. If I was new or a past client, you are treated the exact same...with a dull courtesy smile and hello. Maybe some of you have connected with an employee, most don't last a year, and you feel at home....that is sad. How about, I had a Credit Card Check, with a 0% interest for 24 months, it was for $9000 and I was told no matter what I would need to wait 2 to 3 days for the check to clear before funds are available. Even though I have around 50 times this amount in my savings and checking, they still said I would have to wait 2 to 3 days, would not budge and the employees face started to cringe and get ugly, just because I asked if they could get an manager. They walked off, mad, came back and said, sorry this is our policy. I said even though I am a long in great standing customer, there is not a thing they could do. If you are a state employee using direct deposit avoid banking here all together. The bank will not deposit your check on time. They hold it for 48 to 72 hours to make interest off it first. Fact checked with the state controllers office and other banks and Coast Central lied to me about the facts of their practice. Also careful using their banking app, made the mistake of using it to set up automatic payment on a loan which glitched and resulted in double payments being taken out of my account for sometime. The bank refused to fix the issue and when I forced them the Blond Manager at their Fortuna Branch became very snotty with me. There's two things I HATE about this place..(might be more as I reflect lol). #1) who the heck uses envelopes to deposit money in ATMs in 2017? That's straight up bizarre! And here's the kicker, no immediate availability on ATM usage. You have to wait until the next business day for an employee to come in and manually do the deposits. So really it's about 12pm the next business day. I think they like to create more work for themselves. What's even more interesting is over the summer you could use the atm because they were "updating them". That's a god forsaken lie because it works the same lol still plops out an envelope. What a waste of paper and trees. Cheap asses. #2) I'm still baffled why every single fuggin time they update their mobile banking its DURING NORMAL AWAKE HOURS. Whereas big banks like chase, they update their online and mobile apps between 11pm-5am. Why are you going to update banking online and banking apps at 7-10am! Hats insane! So you want hundreds of customers calling in to get balances? Weirdos running this joint. Maybe they're just high. Coast central has been ripping me off by overcharging me on overdraft fees. I made a charge for coffee on Saturday 2/28 and i went online and it said pending and had the money in red like it was accounted for. Then the next day I went for gas and charged my card. When I have been filling up or using the card for almost a year the card will not let me overcharge.. so I've been at pumps many times filling up gas and the gas stops filling when I reached my limit of how much money is in my account the gas stops pumping. No charge would go through if I didn't have the money in there. So the other day I was at a pump filling up and knew I only had 25 in the account. I was in my car on a call and I heard the pump stop and the barge was 40.00 so I said to myself how can this be? Then I looked into my account and they charged me 27.00 for that overcharge and went back and charged me 27.00 for the charge the day before with the 4.75 cup of coffee. So they charged me 54.00 in overcharge fees. I called the collections manager And he basically told me I can go get an attorney and sue him and laughed at me! I am going to compass and tell them about this and also filing a complaint with the bbb. If anyone has similar problems with this bank please contact me here through personal message. I believe this bank has been doing this to all members. I would say prove me wrong but after dealing with Larry I can tell he's been on the phone with plenty of people who are pissed. I love the small town caring of most of their employees. Ashley and Vicente at the mall have made my day recently but there's been many more over the years and locations. I'm a kinda doing good or doing bad financially and they've rolled with the changes with me. Recently, Ashley and Vicente seemed to really care if I made it to my next paycheck being solvent. I cannot express how terrible this credit institution is. The fact I put my check in 3 days ago and still haven't had the funds released is beyond me. It's caused me over $200 in late fees and damages. Other institutions give you a credit amount upon depositing a check, especially if you're a long standing client with good history, like me. Apparently Coast Central does not have the same love for their community and will not hesitate to screw you over. When I went to a teller at their location at the mall, she scoffed it off. Look into online financial institutions with high interest and no bullshit. Most credit unions and banks are going to pull one over on you as often as they can, and they don't care about you. The person that opened my account said that if I opted for the zero interest checking there would be no monthly fee. Low and behold I've already been charged the $6 fee. I doubt I'll get my $ back. Previously decent experiences experiences with them as my bank. Today changed that. Branch manager can be rude and will just walk away from you. Convenient anyone above manager is always busy/away/in a meeting so you can't talk to them. The phone number to contact them goes to a phone center off site, which makes calling them a major hassle and you can receive false information. Overall there products are poor compared to other credit unions and I personally will not return. read more

I have been a CCCU member since shortly after its inception. I have used many of their services, savings, checking, credit card, debit card, real estate, financial counseling, and am very happy with my service. I have used many of the CCCU branches over the years. I notice many reviewers mentioning the long lines and wait times. Have you tried the downtown branch in Eureka? Recently moved from 4th and J to 4th and F, it has been my experience to be able to walk in and immediately handle my banking needs. Downtown has always been my favorite branch because it usually had the shortest wait time, and the new location is proving to be even better. It is very clean and spacious and the tellers, as in all branches in my experience, are wonderful. I hate to post this review, as I would like to keep this little secret. read more

I was a customer of Coast Central Credit Union for almost 15 years and they were always mediocre at best but I was a huge supporter of local credit unions. I would suggest that if you are trying to do any kind of banking beyond having a checking account, getting a car loan, and going into the branch for most of your needs this is not the bank for you. If you do ANY international banking or online banking their infrastructure and knowledge base is not of a level that this bank will work for you. My example is this: I was working In China and I have a bank in China that I work with. I took my family with me one time and when we tried to leave there was a law change that rendered my daughters passport useless and we were stuck there. That meant we needed funds. I contacted Coast Central every day for over a week trying to get them to wire me my own money. They told me repeatedly (teller through manager up and down the phone tree) that I needed to come into the branch in person to do this. I could not use their magnetic strip cards because they are so vastly technologically outdated that none of the banks in China had any way of processing them. I have also seen this in other countries that use the chip cards. So obviously I could not go into the branch to wire the money to myself and I could not use their cards to get any money out of the ATMs or at the Bank Windows. I was told that they only way I could do this was to send the money to another Coast Central Customer as they couldn't send it to other banks online (unlike most other banks). We followed their advice and found someone who was a customer that would let us transfer the money to them and they would go into the branch and wire the money to us in China. The followed every instruction to the letter and 2 weeks later the money still had not arrived in China. We Called CCCU every day to try to find the money and they told us once it left their bank it was no longer their problem and they had no obligation to check on the $15,000 we had wired from their bank. Because Coast Central does not actually do International Wires they had to send the money to an intermediary bank to do the actual wire. I was finally able to get the information for that bank and called them. That bank told me that the only way they could release the information to me about where the money had gone was if Coast Central called them and got the information for us or told them they could tell us. CCCU would not do that. We finally went to the main branch of our bank in China and went into the International Wire Receiving office. We went through, by hand, with the bank worked, every incoming wire they had received for the 3 weeks prior to the day we went in leading all the way back to when CCCU had supposedly sent it. We were able to find a receipt for the amount of money that had been sent BUT CCCU had put the wrong recipient and had put the federal outgoing tracking number for the USA as the account number. The bank in China had contacted them that first week to ask them what that transfer was for and what the number was and CCCU responded to them that they had no idea and to send the fund back to them. So there it was... our money was sitting in a holding account at Coast Central and they refused to help us find any trail of it or admit it was, in fact, our money. $15,000 may not be much to them but it was our entire saving. We had to open a state investigation and make federal complaint. Suffice it to say it did us no good in China where we were being detained and we were there for several months partly due to CCCU's incompetence. We were finally able to get a portion of that money back as there was a clear paper trail outside of CCCU but we did not get it all back and we are still recovering from the losses. This is not our only major issue or loss of money at the hands of CCCU but is by far the largest and is why I would never in good conscience allow anyone I knew to bank there. read more

Horrible to bank with. They did a variety of fraudulent activity while I've banked with them. Once a check written by someone else who banked with them went through my checking account and over-drafted my account. They paid back the check amount but not the fee. My child's father banked with them as well (we were never married nor did we share accounts) and he would transfer child support to my account, and they accidentally took the money out of my account and put it into his. This is just straight up fraud. By this time I had moved down south and had set up all my payments through them, so it wasn't like I could go in and deal with it. Well I went to check flash deposit a check and they canceled my ability to do so because I owed money to them. Ridiculous that they would do that, how do they expect people to pay on any debt they have if they can't deposit? Overall I give them a 1 only because the poor people that work there are really nice. I banked here for five years and finally closed my account because incompetent inexperienced tellers are constantly making mistakes with simple transactions that have cost me hundreds of dollars in penalties over time. No accountability on behalf of the bank except for when I when I was lucky enough to have recorded absolute proof of their operator error. In my experience CCCU's average for erroneous transactions was around 25% which is a very bad average and seriously lacking professionalism when dealing with other people's money. BUYER BEWARE!!! If you do bank here, ALWAYS ALWAYS double/triple check to MAKE SURE THEY DID NOT MESS THINGS UP and even then there is no guarantee your transaction is safe. You are better off trusting your money with a different financial institution. read more

I paid off a car loan in 2019 and I had to argue with them for over four months to get my pink slip. I paid off another car loan 10/2020 and gave the car to my daughter. Over two months of trying to get my pink slip to transfer it over, nowhere to be found, or I got the answer they sent everything off to dmv and they'll send it to you. Today I brought my daughter with me to get a letter stating it's paid off so I could go to dmv, miraculously they had it there. Nothing was ever sent to dmv, that's why I had to get a letter from the bank. read more

Am in France and their card NEVER works at the ATM--- the code mysteriously changed (why?) --But last night at dinner the card was again rejected---with no code involved. Checked my balance-- 25 times greater than the dinner bill. read more
