I love the concept in general, but I doubt I will do this again. I paid extra for the VIP package,…read morewhich included snacks, but I was disappointed in them (little packaged things that weren't very interesting), and I didn't think it worth the extra price at all. I was early and hit up Banner Bank first--they had an amazing spread that was very generous of them (and that was rare to find). But my first vintner gave me what was a swallow--which I first thought meant he wanted to see if I liked the wine sufficiently to pour me a reasonable taster. Nope! I was relieved to find others were more generous, but I can't say I had $25 worth of wine that night. Also, being first-up was easy, then as time went on, long lines in a crush of people. One thing I did like was getting to see some shops downtown that I wasn't aware of. Some people might really love the whole experience--but, for someone like me, I'd rather just wander around freely and try different places on my own little wine jaunt. I would love to offer suggestions for making it a better experience, but I don't know...needs for what it is kind of dictate what it pretty much has to be, maybe...

It features…read moremultiple shops, galleries, and restaurants teaming up with various local and regional wineries to offer tastes of dozens of varietals. For an admission fee (this year it was $25) participants are given a souvenir glass to take to various locations and get a pour of their fave red, white, rose, or sparkling wine. It's a fantastic chance to stroll the streets of downtown with friends, experience some new businesses, and (of course!) enjoy tasty wine. This year was my first year participating and I had such a great time! I even found a bunch of businesses I hadn't ever visited, and ended up buying a few bottles of the featured wines (they are all available for sale at Vinostrology for easy one-stop post-event shopping). The event does get quite busy and doesn't last long, and lines were VERY long by the time it got going, so word to the wise: start early!

In the past, we were able to enjoy a wine tasting and a sit back and relax and have a glass of wine. It's a smaller establishment, but they offer seats outside as well. This past time I was disappointed to learn that I wasn't able to enjoy a glass of wine. The lady mentioned that you can taste only, but she was willing to get me a small sample. I purchased a bottle of wine to go. However after speaking with Cole and understanding his other adventure it all made the most sense to me on the reasoning. If you're on the island, definitely check these guys out. They have other wines offered at the Doe Bay Wine Co, but stick to local and try the Orcas Project. What they are doing with all of the different wine makers helping make different wines for the Orcas Project is brilliant and provides everyone an opportunity to shine.

Equipped with a Bluetooth speaker to complete the mood! Service was friendly as they were still working out details of this new feature. There were a couple times when we needed more wine or wanted to order more food and there were longer checkin gaps. With the reservation time being limited, we hoped for more frequent checkins. Overall fun time, wish we could've stayed a bit longer but moved our party into the tasting room after. Fun way to pass a winter afternoon!

Wine can be purchased by the glass or the bottle. Water is self-serve at the counter. Food items are light, ranging from cheese starters, salads and pizzas. During our visit we shared a few different bottles of wine, each of us favoring different blends. The White Blend bottle for $24 was a favorite for the couple ladies that preferred sweeter wine. We shared the Beet Salad for $16: Arugula, roasted beets, goat cheese, pickled red onions, pistachios and balsamic vinaigrette. We shared the Baked Brie for $16: Fig & Hazelnuts served with focaccia bread & crackers. We shared the Don't Go Bacon My Heart Pizza for $20: Olive oil, mozzarella blue cheese, pear, bacon, honey drizzle and rosemary. Staff was friendly. Overall, Bertelsen Winery was a great choice for all of us ladies to catch-up over some wine and light lunch. I look forward to attending future events outdoors.
