The place looks very old and we got chatting to locals outside, on the picnic style, benches at the front who told us it was once 3 cottages and the huge house across the road, just visible behind the church, was a farm house. The benches are a nice place to sit in the sun and the customers are very friendly. We were soon chatting away and got bought a drink. One of their dogs adopted me and went to sleep on me. (I am not great with dogs..I am sure they know). Inside 2 bars and a small pretty back courtyard but everyone seems to prefer being out the front watching the world go by. The staff are friendly and polite. Huge inglenook fireplace and wide beams..it is rather pretty. Good range of ales and beers and Bulmers pear cider. Loses a star for being slightly more expensive than other pubs in the area but enjoyable non the less. On the way home an hour and a half later we met RDC coming to see where we were and we ended up going back there. The crowd had changed to older people. Pleasant evening. They do food but can't comment on it.

It's got strange live music, a pool table, a beer garden, free newspapers, a small but decent selection of beers, seating on the street, bar billiards (sometimes) and... thousands of pigs. That's right - this dark but warm little pub is brimful of random pig toys, pig posters and pig sculptures. It adds a unique atmosphere to an already well-known atmospheric pub. Being only about 20 houses away, you can trust me that this is a true local gem. After 5 on most nights you'll find this place packed with drinkers who can't be bothered to go home just yet or catch the train home to the villages. Even if it's near-freezing out you'll still see us taking our beers out and sitting on the grass by the BBC next door so that the smokers can smoke away. And on a hot summer night - it's just perfect. No need to go home until I get thrown out.

It's not a big place, but we had no trouble finding a place to sit. The night I was there, they had a local Indian restaurant serving Indian food. So there are lots of things to like, and really nothing to dislike. A good pub worth stopping by again.

I'll preface this review by stating that we are Americans visiting friends in Cambridge. We had…read morehigh expectations for the Sunday Roast at The Fort St. George. It is known for being the old pub in the river in Cambridge and has a nice atmosphere inside. The outside looked amazing as well but the sun was (unusually) shining. Our reservations were for 3:30 and we came hungry. We ordered using the Greene King app which was very simple and the food came quickly. I will say that the servers were nice and seemed attentive. My wife got the sirloin Sunday Roast and I had fish and chips with a Guinness. The Sunday Roast came with a fair amount of beef, barely-cooked carrots, semi-cooked Cauliflower, a cup of gravy (very good), potatoes, and cooked cabbage. The star of the show was the gravy and everything else was average. However the fish and chips were quite nice- the fish was perfectly fried with a nice and crispy skin. We both ended with Sticky Toffee Pudding with custard which was quite nice although our Cambridge friends thought it could have been better. I can't say that the overall meal and experience met expectations. I'm glad that we went but probably would not go again.

What do you do when the weather is nice? Head to the pub garden of course!…read more This pub is hidden down some country lane, it is extremely cute and there is a lot of outdoor seating. There is also a lovely play area for children. We ordered food and was told that the food would take an hour and a half (they weren't joking) on their menu it states 'we don't make fast food, we make good food' something like that, well boy was that far from the truth. We ordered: Onion rings, garlic bread, breaded mushrooms, potato skins, tuna sandwich, and a burger. Garlic bread was awful it was a baguette with loaded cheese, the tuna sandwich was also awful. All that food came to £40. This pub got 3 stars just because of the location and the outdoor seating and even that is generous. There are much better pubs that have a good garden.

The King and Tinker is a very old pub (the oldest in Enfield, apparently) situated in a rural…read morelocation by White Webbs Park. It is in the London Borough of Enfield, not far from the border with Hertfordshire, but you wouldn't think you were anywhere near London. We'd passed the pub a number of times before while out walking but yesterday decided to stop for a drink and something to eat. We had a hot salt beef sandwich (a pub speciality) and poached fish of the day. Both meals were good. I also had a pint of Hobgoblin ale (not great, but drinkable) and a second pint, of London Pride (very good). The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. What I particularly liked about the King and Tinker was that it hadn't been modernised or made to seem fancy (the dreaded 'country pub & dining'). It was just how typical country pubs used to be, with photos and pictures of local interest on the wall, regulars sitting at the bar chatting with each other and the staff, and no piped music playing. It seemed like it was more or less the same as it would have been 30 or 40 years ago, except for the fact it offers a full food menu, which many pubs didn't in those days. We enjoyed our visit so much we made a note to come back again when out walking in the area.
