All the beer on tap were relatively cheap considering the currency exchange rate with the states. The Regal tries to be both a pub and a club but fails on both levels. My first and only experience at the Regal began with the security giving me a hard time about my passport and then after making me stand and wait for nearly ten minutes he eventually gave me my passport back and let me in. As I was walking in I had a beanie on my head (it was a cold night) he reached for it and when I ducked away he told me to take it off or he was going to kick me out. He didn't ask me to take it off he just reached for it aggressively. Once inside our group sat at a table that was already positioned where it was and after about five minutes the manager comes and threatens to kick us out unless we moved because we were a fire hazard. Keep in mind, we didn't move the table this was its original position. The food and beer itself was mediocre but cheap, easily the highlight of the night. Recap: rude security and management with mediocre food and beer. I will never take my Buisness there ever again even if I was offered free food and drink, what an awful experience. read more

The Wetherspoon chain absolutely never disappoints, and The Regal is another child of the brand that shined! Not all Wetherspoons have couches, and luckily this one did! It is a very comfortable seating situation when you have parties of six to be able to sit on couches around a table. We relaxed there for hours and no one cared! The microbrews on tap are mostly around 2.50, very reasonably priced. The others on tap are the mainstream brands and the prices are great as well. The burger and a beer deal is always a go-to. You get a burger of choice and a beer of choice (within a selection) for under 6 pounds! It's magical. There are gambling machines upstairs and downstairs it looks like they were preparing a dance floor. The bathroom is super clean and the doors have locks on them, which more than many restaurants in the UK can say for themselves. Whether you want a restaurant feel, casino vibe, classic pub environment, or just a chill cafe-style experience; this place has got it all. It's truly enormous. Enjoy The Regal. The Regal is a friendly, well-cleaned establishment, and serves a variety of food and beverages, most often at a sickeningly low price. I first discovered this pub a couple years ago. Being the bourgeois man that I am, "The Regal" sounded to me like a nice place to stop with my friend for a pint, without having to constantly deflect jealous stares from the proletariat under-class which infect most every place I go. The seating is comfortable, and there are three floors to choose from, with comfortable booths. The only real downside to this pub is that they seem to allow inferior people in, and this is a problem for everyone, once they become bothersome. An example of such happened to me and two of my cohorts last week: We were enjoying a meal and a pint of ale each, when I looked up to notice an old Jimmy Saville-esque man giving us all an evil, unblinking glare. When he hadn't stopped after two minutes, I lifted the tankard to my mouth, and drank slowly, returning a stare so venomous that Richard Ramirez himself would have cowered with fear. However, after approximately 10 minutes of this exchange, he was still looking back at us, and clearly hadn't submitted to our superior dominance. I had but one last resort. I stood up from my seat and approached the cur slowly, never breaking eye contact. He swiftly put on his jacket and exited the establishment through the back door. Wow. Now I don't usually like spoons but this one blew my mind. It has the standard cheap drinks but it also provides a decent sized dance floor and DJ. This is the ultimate club, cheap, lots of seating and banging tunes. I can't really falt this place at all, I can't even complain about the people in it as this places seems to buck the tred of most spoos being chav hangouts by being full of smart looking youngsters. Well, the regal is a great big wetherspoons so you know what you're getting food and drink wise. That said, the food is fine and well priced, but the most remarkable thing about the Regal is the building. Its in an old cinema and so its massive, with a balconied area and high vaulted ceilings, so its a nice venue to spend a few hours. Its pretty popular and fills up quickly, but there always seems to be a fight outside on the weekend. Recommend taking ID too, as the bouncers are quite thorough. read more

Checked out the pub for Steak Club and for £9.25 I got an 8oz angus rump steak and a pint! Great food with a cheap price tag in my opinion the steak came with chips, peas, a mushroom, and a tomato. Very filling and delicious. Will come back and try the sirloin next time. read more

Most meals come with a free drink, I chose the merlot which was very fresh and very nice. I drink many wines so I can assure you you'll not be disappointed. Cheap pints, really good meal deals on their club nights (the best curries are the chicken korma and flaming dragon were the tastiest we've tried). A nice break from the higher prices you'll pay elsewhere, but in the end you're supporting a chain rather than a small pub owner. So do with that information what you will. read more

One of my absolute favorite places to go out to for a night on the town. Loved how they would serve us vodka red bulls by the pitchers. I have had the food here before, the lamb shank to be exact. It was great tasted amazing and was cooked very well. Large areas to dance or stand and just hang out. It gets loud at night with the music and crowds but it is always a fun experience. read more

This place is such a shame for Cambridge! It seems that they are in nice location, having a lot of visitors so they don't need to worry about customer service at all. Totally impolite and rude security staff bullying customers. We went for trip to Cambridge in April 2017. It was a while ago but I still can't forget it. We had a fantastic time there and the place was very beautiful until we came into this pub which almost ruined our evening. We ordered a few drinks and desserts and it was all good in the beginning. But after a while a security guy came asking for our IDs as he said it was 9 o'clock. We all had our IDs apart from my girlfriend. Security guy said it's "policy of Cambridge" that all people should have IDs after 9 o'clock regardless if they drink alcohol or not (my girlfriend was having coffee). That security guy asked my girlfriend to leave IMMEDIATELY. I also asked what about the drink she hadn't finished. The guy said that didn't matter: she doesn't have ID so she has to leave right now. But that is not the thing that made us unhappy. It's his attitude. My girlfriend showed her railway card but security said he wouldn't accept it (even though it had photo and date of birth), then she said she had photo of her passport on her phone and whether he would accept it. He could just say No. But he said "I have a lot of photos on my phone too, would you like me to show you some?" (!!!!!!) That is so unprofessional!!! We were shocked by the way they treat customers and I've never ever seen attitude to customers worse than that in my whole life in the UK. But we didn't want to argue, so we just left without finishing our drinks and went to other place. And that's not the end of the story. On our way back we passed the place again, I wanted to write down the name and address of the place so i could leave the review. And when we approached it we saw security dragging a person (most likely a customer) on the floor our of the pub! (!!!) Can you imagine?! What a shame! I don't know what happened there and the person being dragged out of the pub might had really done something wrong. But I still have to say that I've never ever seen anything like that in England before... security pushing customers out of the place like that, dragging them on the floor. Needless to say that I will never go to that place again and will discourage anyone from going there. I can't express how disgusting I find this place. It's shame for both Cambridge and Wetherspoons. I also try to avoid going to any Wetherspoons since that time (even though I haven't really had any bad experience in other Wetherspoons, but Wetherspoons just really disappointed me badly with The Regal that day :( ) read more

This is part of the wetherspoons chain. The pub is the old cinema so is very large. It has a high ceiling with an upstairs seating area. The food is standard wetherspoons food. Good value, the curry nights are good and the food tasty. The drink is cheap as you would expect from this chain. The bouncers have cracked down on underage drinkers as this used to be a place where they would be able to get in. So, do take your ID with you just incase. The Grand Arcade / Lion Yard car park is a short walk around the corner. There is an outdoor seating area. The shops are close by making it an ideal venue for a lunch during a shopping trip. read more

The Regal pub (owned and run by the weather spoons chain) in the centre of Cambridge used to be the ABC cinema, gracefully converted to a modern bar restaurant with no music blaring into your ears whilst having a drink. There still is the re-located Arts cinema using the old screen 2 that shows al the classic films from various years. During the day the pub serves very good food from a large and varied menu, and most days evenings have a special deal weather it be a curry meal deal or a Sunday roast two for one offer, all this with free coffee refills. I have eaten there many times in the past and have never had cause to complain, and in the evening the place livens right up as a very popular night spot for everyone and as said the best thing of all is the sounds, all you can hear is the chatter of people having a good time. read more

The first thing one realises when one walks in to the regal is it's vastness, I am reliably told that it is the largest pub in England. This I can believe it due the fact that it spans two mighty floors and the toilets are the size of a small pub in themselves. The second thing one realises is how cheap it is, due to the fact that the pub is owned by Weather spoons drinks are unbelievably cheap. I had a pint the other day which cost a mere £1.29, granted this was a local Ale but still. Other more well know brands regularly are under £2 a pint. The high rating is due to the cheap booze. This is a central pub with a DJ and dancefloor. Attracts a young crowd and is a bit of a 'pick up' joint. It is on 2 levels with upstairs and downstairs bar although these can be very busy at weekends and there is often a long wait and a bit of pushing and shoving. Although I didn't try the food it look cheap with some good offers such as curry and a beer deals. A wide range of drinks and a lot of cheap offers. I saw a bottle of wine for £5.99! First off yes it is a weatherspoon! this is the cheapest place to eat or drink in cambs, the dishes aint great but theres lots off them (dont ask for rare mix grill they loook at you like an alien) but if your looking for a cheap night out with friends this is the place. it has a massive dance floor with many weekly events (its a student dream) not really much more to say but for a weathers its not bad and plenty of room read more

Good service, always pretty fast and security is pretty tight. I've not tried the food yet, but I know many that like it and return on a regular basis. Its a wetherspoons so the prices are very decent, however on weekends its ridiculously busy, you have to queue ages to get a drink. This isn't their fault obviously however if you want more of a quiet drink in the pub, avoid this place on weekends as its more of a club cos of the loud music (great as a proper night out though given Cambridges lack of proper nightclubs) read more

This place is amazing. The prices are so great compared to everywhere else in the city, the bartenders I've spoken to have been quite nice, and there's always room for you even if you're in a large group. The bathrooms are gorgeous and the whole place is just like a casino. There is a lot of variety on the food menu, although frankly none of it is healthy, but at least they have kcal counts next to the menu item names, which is quite helpful.
