There is nothing special about their cupcakes. They are served refrigerated and you're instructed to wait an hour before eating (goodbye spontaneous customers!). You can taste the refrigeration. No cupcakes are room temperature and assembled fresh like the ones at the On The Vine bakery in Exeter. We tried 4 cupcakes. They were small and were priced at $2.50/each. When they reached room temperature they passed as decent cupcakes. One was based on carrot cake ingredients and that was quite good. The worst was the red velvet. It was dry and bland and it ended up in the garbage. We had a lemon square and it was fresh and moist but overwhelmingly sweet. I would not go there again but would not discourage you from giving them a shot. I would have given Clydes 2 stars but the service was really good. I also feel bad knowing this cupcake fad will soon end and they, along with the dozens of other overpriced cupcake joints, will go the way of oxygen bars. read more

I had the opportunity to hire Clyde's truck for a workplace recognition event for my employees. Clyde's team was very professional and helpful as we planned the event giving us a number of options and varieties to choose from. They were on time, prepared, and the truck was clean and following all COVID protocols. We had two visits by the truck for an ice cream social with custom ice cream cookie sandwiches, soda floats and ice cream sundaes. Everyone LOVED the treat and the homemade cookies were awesome. I tried Clyde's Cupcakes today from the foodtruck in Portland, Maine, and was so happy to find a cupcakery who uses excellent ingredients--high quality chocolate (Callebaut from Belgium), real sugar (and not corn syrup), etc. This does, of course, make his cupcakes a bit more expensive. These are cupcakes for people who like their cupcakes to taste like cake, not candy. They are not too sweet, and not too buttery (which I find a problem in icing-- the Italian buttercream can actually be greasy). They are chilled, because he does not use preservatives. Let them sit outside of the fridge a bit before eating. And Clyde is great-- trained as a French pastry chef and is also an artist! read more

We purchased half a dozen on a whim and pre-ordered chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's day as well. Got home and the cupcakes were dry and lacked flavor. Then I went back 2 weeks later for my strawberries and there was no record of my order which I prepaid for. I lucked out and they gave me the strawberries on my word. I am so confused by the negative reviews on here. I have read several that complain that the cupcakes are dense. To me, this is the sign of a homemade cupcake; if I taste something that is light/airy/insubstantial, I immediately think of cake mixes and low quality cupcakes. My husband has brought me a total of 4 of these cupcakes from their truck near the financial district in Boston. I thought they were amazing--so much so that I'm here writing this review. The chocolate with the brownie on top is SO delicious. I have also had a lemon and a strawberryish one, and they were good, but the chocolate is world class. And my husband says that the guy who sells cupcakes at the truck is super nice (Clyde?) so I'm not sure where those criticisms come from. Clyde's is great fun. The iced coffee is amazing and selection of cupcakes and new treats is never ending! They are standard tin sized cupcakes priced at $2.50 each; sometimes I think that's a little steep but it's yet to stop me from buying one (usually more.) I love their Bob's (whoopie pies) They are as close to my mother's as I've seen, very New England! The service is remarkable. I've been in there multiple times and never been told, like the previous reviewer, that I needed to wait an hour before eating. I think every time I've been in it's been spontaneous! I'm giving two stars for the butter cream frosting only on the red velvet and carrot cupcakes. Bought four cupcakes at the truck in Exeter. The frosting was very good, but the cupcakes were just BAD. The red velvet and carrot were edible, but definitely not fresh. The cognac and Bernie were inedibly dry and seemed many days old. When we removed the paper liners they litteraly fell apart into dry crumbs. They were also tasteless and after a bite of the cognac and Bernie we threw them away for fear of their age. I visited Clyde's at a local food truck festival. I ordered a Samoa cupcake for $3.25. A Samoa cookie is a shortbread cookie topped with caramel and toasted coconut with a chocolate drizzle, so I was expecting something like a vanilla or yellow cupcake with a caramel frosting, toasted coconut (or maybe a caramel-coconut frosting similar to a German chocolate cake frosting without the nuts), and a chocolate drizzle. The small (about 2" across) cupcake I received was a chocolate cupcake with a cap of white frosting, sprinkled with a little UN-toasted coconut and topped with a scant drizzle of caramel and chocolate syrup. Not a Samoa by a long shot. The prevailing flavor was sugar, there was little depth of chocolate flavor in the cake and absolutely no flavor to the frosting, for the price charged I would expect real butter and vanilla but it tasted like Crisco and sugar. The coconut had little flavor besides sweet because it wasn't toasted. I have had better cupcakes from Market Basket for half the price, so I will not be visiting the Clyde's truck the next time I see it. read more

I went with four different flavors for the cupcakes, Swiss Chocolate, Pink Lemonade, Strawberry and a Carmel something or other. They all looked great and while the flavor on each of them was pretty good, they were all so terribly dry that it made them totally un-enjoyable. Tasted the GF chocolate cupcake and my mom had the red velvet cupcake today. I am writing the review because I feel that this business deserves extra recognition. That peanut butter frosting on the chocolate cupcake was exquisite. The balance of sweet and salty was perfect. It melted in my mouth like dreamy butter. The peanut flavor was so nutty and fresh, it tasted as though they had put a fresh peanut right in the frosting. The chocolate cupcake was a perfect balance to the frosting. It was moist and the chocolate flavor came out just right because they didn't drown it in sugar. My mom said that the red velvet cupcake was flavorful and delicious. I actually didn't get to try it because she ate the whole thing before I could even ask for a bite; she loved it. Both cupcakes were pretty to look at, fun to eat and just the right size. I dislike when baked goods are too sweet and I also dislike huge portions. I recently bought a birthday cake from a very famous local bakery in Philly that has a line out the door. Those people should come on up to Exeter and line up at Clyde's. These cupcakes were waaaay better than the cake I just paid $30 for, and well worth the price of $3.50. My family and I stopped by his truck in Portsmouth on the 4th of July. We bought 3 cupcakes at $3 per. The vanilla/vanilla tasted like sawdust, the red velvet tasted like some sort of stale muffin, and the chocolate had an indescribably strange aftertaste. These were quite possibly THE worst cupcakes I've ever eaten. Needless to say, for 3 bucks a pop I was expecting more. With so many fantastic bakeries in Portsmouth this was a big mistake. I went to Clyde's for cupcakes for the first time this past weekend. I am happy to say that I will be returning! These cupcakes are really good! I got 5 cupcakes while I was there, 3 for me and 2 for m significant other who is a picky picky cupcake eater. I tried a chocolate/ vanilla swirly cupcake with cream cheese frosting dotted with chocolate chips (I cannot recall the official name of the cupcake) that was absolutely delicious, a chocolate strawberry cupcake with a chocolate dipped strawberry on top, and a vanilla cupcake with caramel frosting. I got the caramel one on accident, thinking it was a pineapple mango cupcake (must have pointed to the wrong one in the display) but still enjoyed it. The cake for each cupcake was moist and delicious, and the frosting was sweet but not overly so. Clyde's had a great combination of flavors to try. The holiday cupcakes for Halloween were totally adorable, though I did not try any. For the boyfriend, I got a Plain Jane, which is vanilla cake and vanilla frosting (he's boring) and an oreo surprise. He highly enjoyed both. Usually he says meh to the best of cupcakes I bring home! In all, Clyde's is lovely, with lovely cupcakes. Well worth the drive from Concord for cupcakes. I highly recommend giving them a try. You won't regret it. read more
