Cluckers has finally taken over the former Khalils location (and a dearly missed neighborhood bar/restaurant). There are other locations around the city but, Dixie Hwy gets one. I have been here a few times already and I have mixed feelings about the place, service, and food. I do like how they brightened it up. However, it will take sometime to adjust being used to it being dark in there. It looks much neater and cleaner not that it wasn't before, you can see everything now. Service seems friendly enough. They have a host/hostess up front to seat you. I've always sat at the bar because it was just me. I have been waited on in a decent amount of time beings they just opened. I have had Cole twice in the 3 times I've visited. He's always been great. The food has been good, not great, not terrible but good. I did try the buffalo ranch flavor, unbeknownst to me it was dry rub so I wasn't really a fan, they actually messed up my order by giving me bone in instead of boneless. They did correct it and apologized, I was forgiving because they just opened. I went back the next week had someone other than Cole take my order. I ordered the sliders (burger) and I did find it odd I was asked what kind of sauce wanted, I thought maybe it was their way of standing out, I just said I wanted ketchup with my sliders. Later my sliders are brought out to me and they are little chicken patties not burger patties, I told the server that wasn't my order and she asked you ordered the sliders right? I replied yes and that they are supposed to be burger sliders as stated on the menu. She hands it to the bartender and bartender stated she thought I wanted chicken, I never stated I wanted chicken sliders and that they were supposed to be burger sliders. That was corrected and I'm sitting next to a guy waiting for his take out order, we talked some and I told him I've been here twice so far and they have messed up my order twice and that I hope this isn't normal for them, he states he has family who owns the establishment, idk if that was to make me feel bad for what I said because, I don't feel bad for being honest. Another thing that didn't sit well with me was when they had to take my chicken sliders off my check because it was wrong, bartender disappeared for what seemed several minutes with my card. Had to get a manager to correct it, Cole didn't disappear with my card first visit to fix the error on my card but, this bartender did into the managers office. I've heard horror stories about how card information is stolen this way and I'm not saying bartender would've done this, I didn't like the fact all this was done out of my sight. My third visit, all went well. They do have weekly specials and I don't have a picture from where they posted outside. Mondays are $3.75 22oz domestic draft. Cole was here this time and I got the correct order, boneless mild wings. Also all 3 visits I got the Half order of the monster mozzarella sticks, talk about a cheese pull. I do like this place but, they do have kinks to work out still. I also visit here because some Khalils staff I've heard works here and I've only seen one of them so far, I have yet to see the rest. I will say Allie will be a great server be sure to try and get here if you come here or get Cole if you're at the bar.

Potato Skins with Ranch. They use nacho cheese instead of shredded cheese

So glad to have Cluckers in this end of town. We tried it today for the first time ever. Service was a little slow but we expected that for just opening, plus they had graduation crowds. Service was good. We got the potato skins as an app. They were good, but different. They use nacho cheese instead of shredded cheese which we enjoyed. We will be back to try different things.

Can't rate the food because we couldn't get waited on. Didn't seem to care if we were there or not. Very unorganized. Won't be back!

Service was horribly slow. Our short lunch turned in to an hour and a half adventure.

It was not the best food in the world but the food here tastes like home to me. Just really well seasoned and old school. Now here's my issue. This establishment had me wait almost 90 minutes on a 92 degree day (WITH MY FIVE YEAR OLD) for two meals. They had already taken my money, otherwise I would have booked it. Here's what I ate: 1. Fried Pork Chop with mashed potaotes (they were out of potato salad) and greens, gravy on the side 2. Ribs with macaroni and cheese and Pinto Beans I also got a blackberry cobbler. I checked in after 30 minutes and they weren't sympathetic. I looked at these reviews later and saw that someone said the customer service at this establishment was hilarious and they were not kidding. Here's how everything tasted: Pork Chop: very flavorful, glad I got fried and not smothered for texture reasons Mashed potatoes: good and real, but nothing to write home about Ribs: They were okay. tender. tasted like they were boiled and that's not my preference...they were also swimming in sauce. I feel like ribs should be able to stand up without the sauce and I was not sure this could happen here. The bbq sauce is part of the dish for them. Greens: overly salted, underseasoned...they needed to be eaten by the pinto beans Pinto beans: absolutely no salt--would not order again Macaroni and cheese: this is the creamy kind, not the baked kind (not my preference. Gravy: excellent Blackberry Cobbler: FIVE STARS. Delicious, buttery, so tasty. I went home and tried to make one. Seriously: no notes here. It is a must try. Charging 2 dollars for a cup of kool-aid is insane. with this kind of customer services, it would be nice if they threw that sugar water in for free. I skipped it, but just thought I would mention if you plan on trying to have some for nostalgic reasons. I haven't had any in about 30 years and I was planning on it but not when I saw the price tag. I live in Illinois, but if I ever do visit again I will call my order in, go sight seeing and then pick up my food. Don't bring your kids to this establishment unless they have confirmed your order is ready!

Check out her interviews on social media. My initial visit didn't disappoint. After placing my order waiting for my takeout out order, I enjoyed the old 70's soul music I grew up on from the loud speaker and reminiscing old times. The service and food are awesome with amazing prices. Some places are charging premium for soul food now. My pork chops were perfect and gave me an extra one for no charge. The side were really good too. High five to this old school vibe place. Plenty of street parking on this quiet road and will definitely come again. They are only open four days per week.

The dining area is small and no frills, so I'd probably use the drive-thru or take it to-go next time. We ordered the 4 whole spicy wings meal with two sides. I was surprised they include the entire wing, including the tip. Each wing comes with the drum, flat, and tip. The wing tip is actually my favorite part, and it's rare to find restaurants that leave it on. The chicken was incredibly crispy without being greasy, and the spicy seasoning had just the right amount of heat. I want that recipe! For our sides, we doubled up on the potato wedges, and they absolutely lived up to the hype. They seem like they're coated in the same seasoned batter as the chicken, giving them an extra crispy crunch on the outside. Pro tip: Order the purple drink! It has a grape flavor with a fruity twist, and it pairs perfectly with the spicy chicken. Overall, Chicken King is worth a stop if you're in Louisville. Between the huge portions and affordable prices, it's easy to see why it's been a longtime favorite among locals.

Crunchy breading, juicy and tender inside. They were not spicey or dripping in any sauce, just regular breaded and I thought "I am going to have to go to this place soon" After doing some research I found that they have drive thru only for dinner hours. So I made my trip down Broadway to Chicken King and could not miss the big yellow sign nor the already 7 cars in the drive thru. Since this chicken has a otremendous fan base, I considered myself lucky to be #8 in line as others pulled behind me. The menu is packed full of items, so my first tip is to look up the menu online before you go...less pressure once you arrive...lol I ordered the 8 PC box (regular) for my husband, 3 PC tenders (that comes with 3 potato wedges) for myself and a medium peach cobbler to share. I was very disappointed that the tenders were not fresh nor freshly breaded. They were pressed and glued white meat formed into a tender. I actually only ate one, shared one with my dog and threw the last one away. The potato wedges were the star. I should have ordered more of those. My husband, who LOVES fried chicken was not impressed. He said KFC and Golden Corral has better. The peach cobbler was average. So, I am sorry to summarize our experience as not having a reason to return.

There was a sink in my stall, and beautiful shadowbox artwork above the toilet. The hosts were very helpful navigating the place. They gave us an option to drink at the main floor bar, which seemed classy and had a stage for live music, or to go downstairs, which they said had more of a sport bar vibe. We chose the main floor bar because there were less people and we were helped right away. We got a couple drinks each and all were pretty good- no watered down drinks here! My favorite was the espresso martini. We also opted for the Doritos nachos which were pretty filling for an appetizer! The menu states it's for 3-4 people, but it was a good serving for just the two of us. It had Doritos, cheese, pickled onions, lime, jalapeños, and a mixture of beans and it was delicious. We overall spent about $70.
