If there is one observation that I have made regarding this establishment, it is that nothing changes. I mean that in a good way. The food quality is always the same (really good). The service is always the same (friendly & hospitable). The dining atmosphere is always condusive to enjoying the meal and dining experience. I can share this information as I have visited the Highlands and the Middletown locations frequently. Never once have I experienced a faux pas. It doesn't matter what you order, it will be good. Good rustic BBQ restaurant. I had a full rack of ribs with French fries and side salad. The salad was fresh and crisp and the French fries were also good. The ribs were a little dry and over cooked. The ribs had a good taste just a little chewy and dry. The atmosphere was rustic country. The only complaint I had it was a little cold most people were eating with coats on. The service was excellent very friendly and kept things moving. Overall I would give this place a try if looking for a BBQ place. read more

We wound up at Mark's spur of the moment on a Monday night for our group of 5. Seated right away and great service all night. I hadn't been inside for a long time - and maybe this is the best option compared to pick up. I ordered the 3 slider platter with pork, green beans, and potato salad. I was somewhat surprised, happily surprised, my sliders had a healthy amount of pork. It'll definitely be my order next time and the rest of the table was envious. Monday is free dessert! Came in for a quick lunch while down in Louisville area for work. Have been to Mark's a few times in the past and always had positive experiences. Ordered the brisket sandwich lunch special with the green beans and a sweet tea. Tea was fantastic to start. Brisket was a bit dry but solid overall, especially with the pickles, onions, and their sauce. The star of the show was the green beans, which were some of my favorite and most flavorful I've ever had with the bits of pork in there. Overall, a tremendous value and Emily did a great job getting my food out quickly and refilling my tea a few times to get me back out on the road in no time. Best meal was the Combo Rib Dinner, Selection #1 which consisted of Ribs (3), pork, brisket, & honey wings (3), 2 sides & country toast. The portions were large enough to satisfy plus leftovers to enjoy at home. Fried Pickles were outstanding, you gotta try. The Burgoo was not up to their usual standards, looked like what u get with Dinty Moore Beef Stew. BBQ sandwich's were excellent, all sides were yummy as well. Service was excellent & ambiance fun, like eating in a clean barn. The other couple had never been so they were sent home with a free bottle of B-B-Q sauce & a slice of Old Fashioned Milk Pie. In town for a wedding, and stopped here for dinner. Purchased Bar-B-Q Sandwich with two sides. Mac & Cheese and Green Beans. The Server - Mackenzie L. was great! She recommended the Green Beans and I must say, they were the best green beans that I've ever consumed. I've had BBQ in a lot of places and must say that this is one of the best. if I ever return to an area where Mark's Feed store exists, I will certainly be a repeat customer. Never a bad experience when at Marks. Tonight the hubby and I wanted to support local and were in the mood for BBQ. I specifically, was in the mood for ribs. We were immediately greeted with a genuine smile and on a Friday at 6:30, we were immediately sat for a table of 3. The parking lot is tiny and frustrating, although it may appear they're packed, it's a safe bet to go inside to be sure. I ordered the bbq ribs (full slab) and only ate half as I fully intended to take the rest home. For my sides I ordered the potato salad and chicken pasta salad. It was all so good! My husband ordered the fish sandwich which was humongous to put lightly. He said it was okay but didn't have much of a flavor other than for the fried batter. For me this place is the definition of average. I used to love going here, but the quality of the food has severely went downhill over the last decade. The bbq is very average, many of the meats come out try, flavorless, and very overcooked. They shine with their side dishes, apps, and sauces though. The food was very questionable. It was not up to the standards. It should've been for a Friday night. The appetizer was so greasy that you couldn't eat it due to the oil that was in it the ribs taste like they had been frozen and microwaved. The sweet potato fries was very soggy the very worst conditions I've ever ate at for a $55 meal. We ate in the enclosed porch area and our server this night was Ethan H. He did the best job going around and introducing himself and collecting the beverage orders from us while we were all arriving ,getting seated and checking out the menu. I think that their most popular orders from us tonight were Ribs, Chicken Wings, Briskett, BBQ Pork, Beef, Chicken and Turkey. They also have Cheeseburgers that we ordered that really tasted better than the last cookout we went to. They were on great big buns with Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, and Pickles. There was a great variety of sides to choose from. We really had a great time talking to each other while Ethan went around the table taking orders. He was really quick in taking the orders, he did a great job. We met Susan, the Marketing Manager. Very soon the food trays started coming out. The entees were quickly delivered and everyone started eating. I forgot to take pictures of the food because I was so hungry!! While it was quiet from everyone eating, Ethan went back around the tables telling everyone his name again and checking on refills. As we were finishing up eating, boxes were passed out for the leftovers and the checks. Settling the bills went very well and we all agreed that Nathan had been a really great server. I have been a huge fan of Mark's Feed Store since it first opened when I was a child! The food is always consistently delicious - while it is all great, the Burgoo and the homemade buttermilk pie are both must try's if it's your first time dining there. I am partial to the pork bbq, all of the sides are wonderful as well. The service is always wonderful, from the moment you approach the host/hostess stand until you get the check. Everyone is fun and friendly. Which isn't surprising, given that the overall ambiance of the restaurant is also fun and friendly. I will warn you though - come hungry. Got the same meal here twice. The first time it was delicious, warm, fresh tasting, worth every penny. Got it again on 4/22 and very disappointment with the inconsistency. The ribs tasted awful. The potato salad was huge chunks of egg and potato. The first time I got it was finely chopped. I literally had half an egg in it today and a huge piece of potato. We also decided the Mac & cheese wasn't great. Kinda watery. Just wasn't something I'd suggest. But most importantly, I am very ill now. Consistency is so important so I hope this review doesn't fall on deaf ears. And they review proper processes with the staff. It was not worth what we paid for the two meals. read more

A must-try spot in Middletown, but very hit or miss in terms of food. The fried fish is surprisingly excellent, and I love their pulled pork. A lot of the sides are really good, like the sweet potato fries or the potato salad. The onion straws always sound delicious, and they taste great, but they make me sick every time. Learn from my errors. I've always had good service here- waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. As far as ambiance, it's a renovated barn, and holds that rustic charm. Wishing Lisa a quick recovery and back to her manager position. We miss her and we are thankful for her. On the recent November 11 veterans day, this restaurant offered us a discount for my husband, a Vietnam vet. To our total amazement, two young girls came to our table to thank him for his service and the server said they had paid for our meals, both of us! Ordered take out fore Memorial day and the BBQ item decent but the Honey Wings were some of the smallest wings I have ever had. I thought they accidently gave us boneless they were so small. Good food, great service, and very good value. My kids and I don't eat a whole lot of meat so we really liked that we could both get "veggie" plates. The kids and my husband loved the mac and cheese, the baked beans were very good, and my husband got the pulled pork, which was decent. Really like the bbq sauce. I'd prob pass on the corn and potato salad next time--not bad, but worth trying something else. I'd give them 3.5 stars. I go here every few months, when I think "I love BBQ - why don't I go to Mark's more often?" And every time I'm reminded that I find it underwhelming. Not bad such that I'll never go back. But not good enough to make this one of my go-to spots. Caveat: I try to do low carb, so maybe I just miss the best items. I generally get brisket or pulled pork without sauce, and green beans and perhaps a sweet potato. I don't love the taste or texture of any of it (the green beans in particular are not my taste - they're marinated in some reddish sauce), nor do serving sizes particularly impress me for the price. When my husband won one of their instagram giveaways, we knew that it was time to go. I've always heard great things about Mark's Feed Store. The bbq and chicken wings always get rave reviews. My husband and I were both in the mood for a chicken sandwich, and their's looked delicious, so that's what we ordered! I ordered the sandwich with the maple bacon aioli, and my husband ordered it with their honey hot sauce. Both versions were great! We both had fries and homemade chips with our sandwiches. The fries and chips had a great seasoning on them. Due to Covid-19, things look a little different than they normally would. Only so many tables are open at a time, and masks are required except when eating. Everything is thoroughly cleaned inbetween guests, and you can tell the staff are working super hard to keep their customers safe. read more

The parking lot at Mark's is always full with people strolling to the door from nearby streets too. We have ordered carry out several times after moving just a few blocks away (tried the barbecue, brisket, and fried fish) and they were just okay. I really wanted to love this place due to its close proximity to our home, so we recently went for indoor dining.... and it remains just okay. The interior screams of a 1970's cafeteria and so does the food. I ordered the brisket and the serving was very small, served in a paper french fry dish, and was 3/4 fat. The side of green beans was an oily mess. I know Mark's is a Louisville icon (open since 1988), but I doubt that I will return. My 'dinner platter' was certainly not worth $16.99. We each ordered a beer (different) and our server was unaware that my choice was not available and didn't inform me until after my husband was served. Had we known that, he would have have waited to have a beer with me later at another establishment. For those who are interested, children eat free on Tuesday nights with a paying adult. read more
