Let me tell you I have never heard of this style of fitness before coming here and even when I did arrive at the studio, I had NO idea what to expect. I was told I need grip socks and the actual studio does sell them for $20 (really pricey for socks) but I found a pair at Ardene's for really cheap and they did the job just fine. Every person gets set up on a station with a fitness equipment I have never seen in my life. But it looks super multi-functional, so I was excited to see how I would be using it. The instructor, Cassandra was great and was really thorough in explaining the moves and steps. It could be because we took a beginner class but if you're looking for a place to work up a sweat, this isn't it. If you're looking for a super unique way to work those muscles and feel the burn, then it is! The workout in total is fairly short (45 min) and it's pretty fast paced. I'm more a visual learner then audio so I do like to watch the instructor for guidance if I don't really know what I'm doing so sometimes I felt like I was a bit behind. Cassandra was great through in coming around and adjusting people's forms and postures and my god, YOU CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE. The moves are definitely challenging and if you "cheat", then I can see it feeling like a waste of time/money as it's more of a strength/core conditioning class then it is cardio. Overall, this was a fun, unique way to do some strength and core conditioning and, if you do push yourself, you will feel the burn the next day! While I would like to give this place another go, it is pretty pricey as one class is $30 and while they do have some packages, you're only saving a few dollars. If you want to try once to see what it's like they do offer a $18 first timer class and a $50 package for the first week. The overall studio is pretty small and their "change" room is more of a hallway with each locker having a digital lock, which is super nice.

I've gone to many other boutique/ studios for classes and I've enjoyed The Sweat Lab classes the most. Their front staff are very nice and helpful, the studio is nice, clean and always a good temperature. Their spin classes are not intimidating like others can be - if you can't get the beat you are encouraged to give it your all rather then discouraged because you can't. The circuit classes are amazing and go by so fast - always feel these classes a day or two after which is amazing! This is the first place I've done barre at and I enjoy the class structure and instructor. I think the monthly price and drop in are reasonable when compared to others. Plus you get variety rather than needing to go to several studios. Highly recommend!!

This review is for the West 85th location which is currently not available to rate on Yelp…read more I was excited to try my first class at any Hot Shop studio. I was supposed to join my sister, but I was denied service when arrived. I showed up ONE minute late, and this is not an exaggeration. My sister had checked me in and set my mat up for me, it was a matter of taking my shoes off and entering the room. The street parking in the area can be tricky and I had to circle around a few times to secure a spot and sprinted over to the studio. 6 pm class - driving over in prime rush hour time. I was also told by my sister who did attend that the class was empty and did NOT even start on time. I understand that studios have procedures to avoid disruption, but refusing someone over a one-minute delay feels unnecessarily strict and lacking basic customer consideration. Especially as it was my first ever class with Hot Shop. I made the effort to show up and was essentially on time, yet still wasn't allowed to participate. A simple "please arrive early next time otherwise you'll be denied entry" could have sufficed. It did not help that I was told "sorry, sometimes the instructors don't let people in. It depends on the instructor". This only made it sound even MORE unfair. Basically communicating that this isn't a strict rule, and it only applies to SOME people. Instructor was Shauna Clark. It didn't feel welcoming or accommodating, which is the opposite of what I expect from a yoga environment. Yoga is meant to be therapeutic, but I left feeling extremely stressed. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression and will not be returning to any studios. Still waiting to hear if I'll get my money back since I showed up ready to participate.

Was also told by the manager that it is stated in the email but it also isn't. The class was half empty, it was at 4:45 which is also during rush hour and i did my best to come in on time. Honestly just disrespectfully and bad business practices. Policies should be stated very clearly and multiple times. There is also a certain amount of professionalism when it comes to customer service that clearly non of the employees or the manager practice.

The trainers are extremely knowledgeable, approachable and genuinely have a passion for what they do. Tasneem, the owner, personally greeted me and took the time to welcome me to the studio on my first day. All the trainers I have met know me by name. The music is always great and general ambiance is unlike any other studio I've been to (I've tried multiple spin studios, barre studios, boxing studios etc). They offer a range of workout classes at different times during the day that are incredibly effective. You are guaranteed to walk out feeling amazing after every class. The classes are small which allows the trainers to give you personal tips and correct your form if needed. To me, this really set Square1 apart because I feel like they actually care that I am doing everything the right way which has helped me maximize my workout. Sometimes, it felt like a personal training session (esp when classes are smaller). Their attention to detail is remarkable. As you progress, the trainers will also suggest personal modifications. I love that they are able to gage wether you should increase weight/intensity because they actually pay attention to your progress over time. Although, the space is on the smaller side, it does not feel cramped and is kept very clean. I love how this studio feels so different than other 'boutique studios' - nothing pretentious, fussy, or "extra" about this place. If you are looking for an amazing full body strength workout and/or would like to try kickboxing - THIS IS THE BEST STUDIO IN THE CITY!!!!!! I'll stop now but I really could go on and on and on...

I wish they offered it more than once a week! This is my favorite yoga sculpt class in the world, including Corepower, Equinox, other boutique studios, etc. You flow for 60 minutes through a series of yoga postures incorporated with weights. BUT, the word "flow" in this class means you literally do not stop moving. It's not super heated like some other studios, but it's so challenging (in the best way) that you end up sweating out all your nasty bodily toxins anyway. Misty makes a point to learn everyone's name, is super encouraging, and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of class is incredible. That, and also the cool lavender towel for your face. My arms were twitching after class, and my triceps are still sore days later. For a $20 drop in class, the workout is totally worth it. Plus, you get a free mat, towel, and all bathroom amenities!

At Samadhi I was presented with a yoga instructor that used the class as a platform to preach about things she had no business discussing in a class. (I use the word discuss loosely, since it's one sided in this venue) Wasted my time and money. Yoga class should not be where an instructor shares her personal beliefs about topics that could offend students. She does not have the opportunity to speak with us and learn if we're an appropriate audience for her to share these thoughts and feelings. Everybody is entitled to their beliefs on things like what causes and cures cancer, but I certainly did not pay to hear this particular set of beliefs. When I emailed the studio to share my concerns, I received a reply trying to sell me a session with their nutritionist. I will definitely not be back, there are way too many other, great, options for yoga studios in Calgary.

I have my favourite teachers but I like to mix it up. Even though the series of poses remain the same (at least for hatha) each teacher brings in something different. Kudos to the front staff too - they are all very welcoming. Pet peeves that relate to the other customers. Be aware of space and don't put your feet on someone's mat. Move up more! Don't let your sweat drip on the mat/water bottle of the person behind you because you didn't move up the middle to do your leg lift. When you leave the room, don't walk on someone's mat. Bring an extra towel if you sweat so much, I almost fell because the sweat pools onto the floor. Don't talk in the class to your friends because its distracting to other people. End rant.
