Second the inside looks like a garage. With little equipment the "trainers" set up like 10 stations and after a lame warm up where the "trainers" pretend to be militant standing there and yell orders at u. U go through the stations for a min. Or 45 seconds. After u do this a couple times they go right into a stretch and don't bother doing a cooldown. This totals 45 min. That doesn't even get ur heart rate up long enough to burn fat. Don't waste ur $$$$

My mother and I both started at this boot camp six months ago and love the easy-going atmosphere. The trainers are very personable and never bark orders at anyone. They make you feel comfortable, whether you're in great shape or haven't worked out in months! I have asthma and it's essential I have a good warm up before I exercise, and I can tell you I've never had a problem with it at these camps. I always feel warm when we start the workout. The trainers are very creative with the workouts, pulling something new out of their hats every day. They include a great mix of circuit stations, obstacle courses, crossfit-style training and all sorts of variations of interval training. They even do a fitness test every 5 or 6 weeks (I believe) so you can see how much you're progressing. The equipment they use is very basic, but they get great results with simple supplies like skipping ropes and medicine balls. I always leave feeling like I had a great workout, and usually with a smile on my face! I can tell you that this camp has changed my life. I've never been a "gym" person, and I had never done a boot camp before, but I am addicted to this class. I now go 4 or 5 days a week -- and so does my 52-year-old mother -- and I'm stronger than I have ever been in my life. Some say the building is tricky to find, but if you check their website they clearly say that the boot camp is in the facility for No Limits AFC. We found it quite easily. I love this boot camp and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to have a little laugh while they're working out in a group!

I've been to Kensington Fitness a few times with a friend who has been a member for a couple of…read moreyears. She loves the personal training and the friendly atmosphere. I couldn't agree more. The staff literally know the name of everyone who comes in. The gym is quite small, there are no extras (hot tub, pool, running track, etc.), but they have all of the equipment I could ever need. Some of the cardio equipment is a bit old, but I think they are upgrading it soon. My most recent visit was on Tuesday evening for the Boot Camp class. I've been to a few other boot camp style classes before, some at bigger gyms, and some held by private trainers outdoors. The boot camp at Kensington Fitness was more expensive (for non-members it's $25 per class if you pre-buy 6 classes, or $30 per drop-in class) but worth the price if you are looking for personalized attention. There was only three of us that day, so it felt more like a group personal training session because the trainer was able to watch all of us and give us our own feedback. In one hour we worked through 5 stations, each with 3 sets of 3 activities. I had done a few of the basic activities before on my own, but most were modifications to basics that I will continue to incorporate into my future work outs. I haven't become a member yet because I get a free gym pass at the University. But I'm thinking of getting the 6-pass for the boot camp. Even just to go every couple of weeks and learn some new moves :)

The staff is particularly nice. They don't both you and tend to stay out of your way unless you need them and then they're as friendly as ever. The gym itself is relatively small but the amount of equipment in there is amazing. There is actually a designated space to do pylometrics and free weights which I greatly appreciate. Cardio machines, weight machines, accessories (ankle and arm weights, steps, mats, medicine balls, exercise balls, etc.) are all available. I have never had trouble with the gym being crowded or equipment being unavailable. Showers and change rooms are quite clean (hairdryers and small toiletries are available in the change rooms); lockers are available (bring your own lock); and the gym equipment is quite clean as well. They have a smoothie bar for your post-workout snacks and I've seen many clients stay and chat with staff for a few minutes before leaving. I haven't seen any pervy guys here (hurruh!) and clients are typically quite polite. Bonus features: Free towel service Low fees ($10 drop-in fee, approx $720 for a year-long membership) Free parking Staff is accommodating to customers (not vice versa a la World Health)

This is a huge two studio space in the southeast of Calgary, and I have actually passed this studio…read moremany times until today, I had no idea there was a yoga centre in this little strip mall. The place is so serene when you enter, partial sunlight floats in, the waiting room has huge black and white photographs of South Asian images and there seems to be tea that is available to all its visitors. The lady at the desk was extremely informative describing Bikram Yoga for me and all its assets. Seems that Bikram Yoga or Hot yoga is a series of 26 yoga postures in a heated space that is designed to bring oxygen to 100 percent of the body. The classes are 90 minutes long and the temperature is around 40 degrees, each class can hold 55 attendants but in most cases she said they have seen around 30 people in the class, which gives you more room to stretch and sweat. Other places in Calgary have seen larger populations in attendance so sometimes it can get uncomfortable when stretching an arm and perhaps touching your neighbours privies. If you are a beginner, there is a 7 day package of $30 which is approximately $4.28 a class where they let you borrow their mats and towels. All other packages have the option of renting towels and mats at one dollar a piece. Classes range from drop in to a yearly package and all seem relatively inexpensive considering I have seen this type of Yoga at super expensive rates in the United States. BY helps with blood circulation, it helps to distress, you can sleep better, your appetite regulates. On a longer term you can expect BY to get rid of aches and pains, increase your strength, flexibility and stamina. Most of all it is a fun social exercise like thing to do, which is intense but is incredibly humbling. I would highly recommend this space to any Yoga enthusiasts out there.

A wonderful Studio…read more I've been practicing Bikram Yoga for a number of years, and I've tried to go to studios where ever I travel to. The Calgary South studio is a wonderful space to practice. First off, when you walk through the doors you have a large area to remove your footwear, customary for most yoga studios. The front desk staff are very pleasant and in most cases the instructors are there to greet you as well. There is a large merchandise area, everything from mats, to clothing, to water bottles and various other trinkets. There are two rooms, and both are well lit and ventilated. They use a product called flotex for the flooring. Any studio that I've practiced in that uses this flooring (and that if maintained), there is virtually no smell to it. So no stinky rooms ! The instructors I've had, have all been very good. They know their script/dialog and have good timing and pace throughout the class. Most of them have made comments to me after class. Helping me with corrections, or things that they noticed. This is quite impressive considering the number of students in the room for some of the classes. Some of the classes can be full, so obviously its a good idea to get there early. Arriving 2 minutes before class may net you a less than desirable spot in the room. There is even a small freezer with frozen treats for after class. A nice touch, although I've never indulged. There is plenty of free parking, as the studio is part of strip mall. Overall I like the studio, its instructors and the rooms. Even though I don't live in Calgary and I'm only traveling there to work. I decided to by a class pass. Needless to say, I'll be going back !

Each class is different, no matter which instructor that go and see. After just 3 months of training I ran the spartan race for the second time. Where it used be a task to go to the gym, now I find I am excited to go to it. And days that I don't go I feel I would rather be there. I would suggest this place to anyone that is looking for a change in their workout routine. Or are just starting out and looking for a great place to get a good workout.

When registering I went to their website and tried to sign in but it wasn't working. So I called and left a message about it. I got a call back the next day from Sandra saying I could register over the phone. They were in the middle of changing their booking service over to the Mindbody system at the time. Registering with the app is super easy now. I find it a little pricey at $30 for drop in tho. The place is in the middle of an industrial area but it was well marked and I was able to find it in the dark just fine. When arriving I was greeted right away by Jesse who was teaching the class. They have a seating area to chill and chat. The change room area was a little rough around the edges. It's a unisex area with box cubbies for your things, no lockers. the change rooms are individual rooms and two unisex washrooms with showers. Just bring your own towel and soaps. The gym itself is an adult playground. It's hard to find something they haven't thought of. All of your universal obstacles are built that you'll find in most races. There's a turf area as well and a few rowing machines. For the class we did a quick warm up on the rowing machines and then of course, burpees. After that there was what Jesse called "12 days of Christmas" workout written on the board. 12 different exercises to get through while working your way back through the ones you already did each round. It was great in that it used the whole space so in between you were running and it gave you many attempts at each one to practice and get better. We had a 40 min cap to get through all 12 before cool down. Anything we had questions about he went over and would show techniques otherwise he just let us go at our own pace while offering lots of high fives and encouragement. The course included: 1.rope climb 2. crawls 3. tire flip 4. 4ft wall 5. burpees x5 6. 6 ft wall 7. push ups x7 8. 8 ft wall 9. box jumps x9 10. KB squats x10 11. turf sprint 12. monkey bars It was so much fun and inspired friendly competition with those in the class like a race. Though everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. We offered each other tips and encouragement. It was a great atmosphere. After time was up we did our own cool down. I was able to catch some time to play on a few of the other obstacles and try for the first time while not in an actual race. The others said they class is never the same and changes up so you never get bored and can train to be well rounded in all obstacles. Hopefully they successfully expand and get one of these gyms in Edmonton. I would sign up for a membership right away. If you want to get into OCR or are just one of those people who get bored with conventional workouts this place is literally an adult playground. And for those who race regularly its a great indoor facility to keep your bruises year round!

I purchased a two week unlimited pass for $40 which I paid upfront on my VISA. To my knowledge, I did not authorize any further charges. I attended two classes immediately following the unlimited period (my mistake - I did not recall what day I completed my first class which started the 14 day countdown). I was then contacted by the studio advising me of an outstanding account. I responded within a few days asking for confirmation of the start/end day of the 14 day trial and the dates I attended classes (you can access this information on your account online but my log-in did not work). They responded nicely with the information and asked what I would "like to do" and stated that if I purchased one of their passes that I could apply the two classes I already completed to it (a fair deal and one that I intended to take). But, I had not got around to responding to that email when (7 days later) I received an email informing me that they had decided to just charge my VISA for the amount owing. This really ticked me off. In fairness to them, I was already tired and stressed after the work week. I responded (in haste) that I had not given them permission to charge my VISA and to refund it. They responded (5 days later) that if I wanted a refund, then I would have to come into the studio first and pay for the classes in cash. I do not dispute that they were owed the money they charged me and that I would need to pay it. I just don't condone service providers that take free rein in charging your credit card whenever they decide to for whatever amount they deem owing because they have your credit card number and think they can (insert their response where they tell you that there is some small print in some document that every client signs, that no client really knows is there and which permits them to do all of the above and more at their sole discretion, haha). Also, I took these classes in February. It is February 17th. This was not a situation involving some long overdue invoice that demanded immediate recourse.

I was a little worried upon my first class as the instructor, Peter, jumped right in. There's not much explanation as to the background of this type of yoga but each move is demonstrated and somewhat explained as to biologically what is going on. Henna is one of the most wonderful teachers I've had. She is the type of person who raditates kindness, and positivity, and can uplift you to enjoy the class, even through the tough parts. I recommend being up to 30 minutes early, and classes - especially hers - get busy fast. If you don't have a mat, you can rent one for $1. Now for the things that they don't mention about yoga class: - You will be getting close to others, sometimes to the point of touching, so if you can't accept that, don't go. -The smell - the room is warm, and the sweat smell will cling to your towel and mat. Sometimes you may have other people's sweat on your mat too - yum yum! - Loud noises - Some grunt, or breathe heavily (all part of the practice) try not to focus on it. Oh, and passing gas...there's a lot of that unfortunately. So far, I have yet to experience a 'death fart', phew! - the 'sights' - immodest clothing, odd sweat stains, weird positions, all normal. The point is to not worry about others, and what they're doing and simply focus on yourself. Have fun, and most importantly BREATHE.
