I have been going to hot young's since June 2010. I landed on Hot yoga on Crowfoot , an Elmira Barry studio. It was love at first sight the place and the people was amazing. Today, I go to Hot Yoga on 17th Ave. and I continue being Elmira's client (she treats me as family with warm love included). I highly recommend it, the energy share at the studio is great. All the instructors are ver Knowledgeable. I hope this studio remains there to hold me at old age . Thank you Elmira read more

great yoga studio. More on the fitness side but also getting some breathing and meditation.

I recently tried a class at Hot Yoga on 17th and I haven't done a workout *that* hard in a long time. I tried the Baptiste Vinyasa Flow class and let me tell you - the instructor worked us HARD. Here are the Coles Notes of the pros and cons: Pros: - Great location with parking - coffee shops with beautiful patios right next door so you can veg. before and after - Amazing instructors and staff - Beautiful studio - Nice locker rooms - A regular clientele that will inspire and motivate you with their rock- hard, beautiful bodies! Cons: - If you're dropping in, the cost is $14-$16/class. Pretty standard for drop in rates at a hot yoga studio, but I still find these drop in rates steep! - Because of the quality of instruction, these classes get PACKED. So packed in fact, that you hardly have enough room to spread out your limbs. Far too packed for my liking. Over all, between the location, studio, instruction, and number of rock hard bodies that you'll see in the place, Hot Yoga on 17th is worth the hype. The classes are too packed for my liking which is why I have decided not to frequent it here, but after having tried a class for myself, I can definitely understand the rave reviews that this place gets! - read more

I've been going to this studio for about a year now and finally decided it was time to write a review. I understand that this is a busy studio and with that comes an understanding of inconvienience...but...IT'S SOOOO LOUD IN THERE. Arriving and preparing for class all you can hear is noise from the previous class leaving, even the instructors and receptionists are loud. There are no signs outside the studio to remind patrons to respect the class that follows. The classes are usually pretty busy and I have felt that the instructors at times are very robotic in their delivery. Not saying I haven't had amazing classes this year but feel like a spotlight is shined on the physical benefits more than the mental and spiritual benefits of practicing. As a positive I will say that that the staff is really friendly. We are all different in our styles and expectations. I would never want to steer people away from this studio, just let them know my opinion after a year of patronage. read more

I have visited many Calgary studios, and my experience here was much less than ideal. On my first visit, the class was good - busy, but appreciated the instructions about the studio and where to find things. The change room is beautiful, with a vibe more like a high end gym than most yoga studios in town. Although neither the class nor the instructor stood out, it was a positive experience - however, I got the distinct impression that the studio's culture was more about the intensity of the exercise than developing a strong yoga practice (which is more my focus). I was delighted with the cool lemon grass face cloths at the end of class. My second visit was much less positive. I found the room to be abnormally, substantively, and concerningly hot - and in all honesty, got the sense there had been a technical glitch. Having been at the back of the classroom, I could see the thermostat and what it read it made me uncomfortable. I generally do 3-5 hot yoga classes per week at various studios, and feel awesome - but I ended up with what I'm almost certain was heat exhaustion after this one. I called the studio to inquire and mention my experience, and was spoken to very condescendingly (bottom line: I am an idiot and my concern was not worth listening to let alone investigating). I was surprised by how abrupt the person on the other end of the line was, and it left me very disinterested in visiting again despite the studio's other, well-noted, redeeming qualities. I was disappointed, given how many otherwise positive things I'd heard (on Yelp and otherwise); I have yet to go back. read more

I came home from a hot yoga class last night and thought I'd wait until the blissful peace that comes after that much relaxation passed before writing my review. I figured a good night's sleep would give me time to reflect on whether or not this was a 5-star experience. I went to their late Thursday class from 915-1030. I had decided on a whim around 730 that I wanted to drop in somewhere for a yoga class. I hadn't been to one in nearly 2 years and needed somewhere to destress. I tried Bodhi Tree's site first, while they did have a class at 9, there was a fail with their online booking. It said the class was open to signup, but by the time I got to the checkout, I got a message telling me I was no longer able to sign up online. I know, I could've driven down and paid in person, but the allure of just waltzing past the front desk to the change room is too much for me. So more yelping hunting I did to find a yoga studio nearby. Hot Yoga on 17th was the next spot I found with a later class. They appear to be using the same service provider for their online payment system as Bodhi Tree, yet all of their classes are drop-ins. I was signed up in no time at all. And I think the class was a dollar or two cheaper ($16). When I got there, I asked if I could buy a mat. I have a padded one, but it slips and slides on the floor. The receptionist pointed to a blue one on the counter and said "you could buy that one, but it's the only one we've got right now. Why don't you wait for more to come in and just rent one for $1 today?" How about that? No upsell :). I mentioned that I hadn't been to a hot yoga class in a very long time and that it was my first time at their studio. She explained to me where the changerooms were and the class room. She also suggested I set myself up at the back of the room since I hadn't been to a class in awhile so that I could look and see what others were doing if I was confused about any of the poses. Vanessa, the instructor, took us through a series 75 minutes of poses and strengthening exercises. I forgot how much hot yoga makes a person sweat. I'm glad I remembered my towel. Vanessa had a good flow to the class and offered up different variations to each pose she had us do. Once we had finished up, Vanessa ended the class by giving each participant a cool lemon grass face cloth. OMG did that ever feel good to just drape over my face. And it smelled delightful. The late night class wasn't full at all, there were maybe 10 or so people in it. At the end of the night she was hanging out at the front to say goodbye to everyone (and to lock up) but she took a few minutes to chat with me and find out how I thought the class went, if the room was a good temperature, etc. I came home utterly relaxed and was asleep in a matter of a few minutes. I haven't slept that soundly in months. Perhaps it's a sign yoga needs to make a more regular appearance in my day to day life, which means I may very well be making a more regular appearance at Hot Yoga on 17th. read more

Still a 5-Star rating, since they have always been consistent with great service, professional staff and an environment that makes you want to go back every day! The fact that our Yoga insructor, Morgan Munro is a messenger or tranquility and peace, and we love her so much also helps :) read more

I love this place so much, I bought a one year pass. Considering how nice and clean the facilities are, the amenities (toiletries, lemon grass towels), variety of classes (hatha, BV, power, barre, etc) and the number of classes offered per day (6am to 9pm), I think the cost of a one-year membership is a hell of a deal ($1,380). I have my favourite teachers but I like to mix it up. Even though the series of poses remain the same (at least for hatha) each teacher brings in something different. Kudos to the front staff too - they are all very welcoming. Pet peeves that relate to the other customers. Be aware of space and don't put your feet on someone's mat. Move up more! Don't let your sweat drip on the mat/water bottle of the person behind you because you didn't move up the middle to do your leg lift. When you leave the room, don't walk on someone's mat. Bring an extra towel if you sweat so much, I almost fell because the sweat pools onto the floor. Don't talk in the class to your friends because its distracting to other people. End rant. Oh yeah, namaste. read more

I've been to 5+ hot yoga studios in the city, including breathe hot yoga , Calgary hot yoga, soul hot yoga. This class was a bit too hot for my liking. I tried traditional hot with Katie. The room was full which I'm sure increased the temperature of the room and the heat never seemed to lessen, even at the end of class. I've never seen so many people leave a yoga room as they were unable to finish the practice. I suggest lower the temperature towards the end of class to make it bearable. I love hot yoga and been doing it for 2 years and that's the first time I had to sit out for more then 1/2 the practice. If several ppl are leaving most instructors try to turn the fan on or crack the door open-this would have been helpful! This yoga studio is focused more on the fitness side of yoga, the room was well over 40 degrees. Most other studios are around 35 degrees. Tried another class with Shaina I think her name is, was a much better experience, but still would never go back. Left my jacket there , called and emailed several times, no response. Great customer service. ‍ read more

The yoga studio is very nice and the instructors hold a nice pace and tempo. However, parking is slim, the change room is tiny and the classes are often packed. We're talking 3"-4" between you and the people beside you and 4"-6" between the people in front of and behind you. If you're on foot and like a full studio this is the place for you. read more

Probably the best studio I have been to yet. Awesome instructors and friendly staff. Very considerate of their customer. They offer a lot fo classes, though they get full fast so get there early and you might have to park a block away since they only have a couple spots reserved in the lot, but their studios are the perfect temperature (make sure you're hydrated before you go) and they give out wet face towels after the classes. read more

Amazing studio, amazing instructors, flexible schedule. The first time I went to Hot Yoga on 17 I met the owner. She fully explained what to expect and what to do during classes. The second time I showed up she knew my name. That's one of the key points that keep me coming back for more. The "flow" classes are phenominal as are the instructors. Try Kathy...she'll kick your ass! I'm not a granola person but every class I take is a positive and enlightening experience. A great work out to boot! Parking is kind of a pain but well worth the walk across the street. Overall, SO WORTH IT FOR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STRENGTH! read more

I've visited quite a few yoga studios in Calgary and Hot Yoga on 17th is by far one of my favorites. Every time I've gone, they've been careful not to oversell their classes (there's nothing that irks me more than mat-to-mat yoga classes with other people's feet in your face). So while it can be busy, there's always enough room that you feel comfortable. You may be close to others, but I've never overlapped with anyone else or touched them. This said, I don't usually catch the classes right after work. The instructors are good and provide constructive feedback for your practice. What amazes me about this place is how clean it is. Yoga can be stinky, especially hot yoga. This place smells great, even after a difficult class. And I love the lemon-scented cold towel they give you for savasana. The locker room and reception area are exceptionally clean. Parking is the only thing that's tricky. There are limited spots in front of the studio, and it can get busy in the surrounding neighborhood. I usually have to park a few blocks away, but that isn't a big enough annoyance to stop me from coming to this studio. read more

The studio is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere to it. The staff are very friendly and kind and the cool lemongrass cloths at the end are fantastic. However, having practiced yoga for over 8 years now, I did not find the traditional hot yoga class to be a genuine yoga experience. The room was too hot for the body to benefit and I found the flow of the poses to be awkward (particularly at the end). The focus seemed to be more on maxing out the physical toll of the body in the extreme heat, though the poses were not particularly challenging. My personal preference is for slightly cooler classes that keep the mind engaged with the poses, flow consistently and focus on the proper technique and skill. To me, this provides the highest benefit to the body. If you are just looking to drench with sweat and exhaust yourself, this is probably OK for you! I just wish that they had some more variety in the class styles but I will try the other classes out and hopefully will change my mind about it! read more

Great yoga spot. Always super busy. Classes are usually packed and I've liked every teacher I've had. Kathy was my favourite but I havnt had a bad one yet. Some classes have felt a bit too hot but I always feel amazing when I leave read more

I love the studio here! Owner Elmira is such a sweetheart and it shows in her love for her studios! No complaints at all!

Excellent class with Shaima Ibrahim. You rock! That Tuesday afternoon Baptiste Power Vinyasa at Crowfoot, love it! You did the abs work first before the flow was super awesome..my abs was never sore in any BV class, not after that class with you recently..I remember you mentioned that you changed your mind and start with the abs work first..I think that's brilliant! You have so much motivation and very strong.. thank you so much for sharing your skills and passion for each and everyone of us..I am madly in love with all your classes..I'd love to try your spin classes too,but my schedule doesn't allow me too..maybe in the future... read more

A good studio for hot yoga and only hot yoga. They don't offer times where you can do your own practise in the heated room which bothers me a bit, but the classes they offer are quite good for getting a good idea of the more common poses and sequences in yoga. The 17th location has fairly agreeable clientele most of the time, I tend to run into girls who think the yoga room is a social lounge; however, they usually smarten up after being asked to go to the hallway. Classes with Kathy, Crystal, and Heather are (I think) the best ones. Each teacher is quite well-versed in yoga poses and practise (the mental side of things) so they do tend to change up a pose or two each class. The 4:15-5:30pm and 6-7:15pm classes tend to be crowded so if you like your space, avoid them and opt for an earlier, later, or weekend class. Staff is generally quite nice although a bit useless when you ask them to deal with a problem relating to clients (read: don't ask them to inform other clients that moving someone's mat is not okay or that the room is to be silent). A note on headstands: this studio does not have wall space or adequate teaching assistants to help you with headstands. read more

One of my favourite spots to get sweaty in the city. This hot yoga studio has truly created something special and you feel it as soon as you walk through the doors. The instructors are fantastic and these classes leave you strong, flexible, and completely exhausted in the best way possible. I feel like I've poured my heart and soul out on my mat every single time, which is my favourite feeling of all. Thanks for the amazing platform to do so, Hot on 17th! read more

I've been to many studios, from Winnipeg to Toronto to Montreal. The studio is clean with decent number of showers. However, this studio has successfully managed to package yoga as an athletic workout. I was looking for more than just nine poses to a nice bum. read more

Seriously. This place is pretty ego driven and not YOGA at all. This is a place where you get bumped, dripped on and staff is rude. Not all but some. It is such a stressful environment...rush to get there and rush to get out. My phone was stolen and so was my socks. I spoke to the owner about it and her response was quite short and pretty much in her manner said don't come back if you don't like it. Not customer driven at all...this woman is not yoga and has no idea of what yoga is. read more

I was greatly disappointed with my experience at Hot Yoga on 17th. I had been going to Bodhi Tree Yoga regularly up until I moved to a different part of the city. I thought I would try out a place that was closer. I was not given a tour at all of the studio, so trying to find what I needed was awkward, having to interrupt the receptionist several times. There is no area to wait in before your class starts, except for a narrow hallway. (I read this in someone else's review prior to going to the studio, and didn't realize it would be an issue, but it definitely added to the negative experience). In order to get to the water to fill my bottle, I had to cross back through the entrance area in my bare feet through water and mud. I did the traditional hot yoga. The lights were bright, it was overly hot (I *love* hot, but this seemed dangerously hot), and this style of yoga was like being at an aerobics class. We drilled through a standard set of 26 poses. It felt like it was a race to get through all 26 poses. There was no focus on the mind-body-earth connection. If you're looking for an aerobics-style workout, then maybe this studio would be for you. If you're like me, and looking for a combination of calming your mind in a peaceful environment while connecting with your body through challenging stretches and poses that in the end, result in a great workout, then I suggest Bodhi Tree. read more

this is a beautiful hot yoga studio with fantastic instructors and an overall fantastic experience. You walk in and the place is just breathtaking in its beauty, Vaulted ceilings and chandeliers welcome you. You are greeted with friendly staff and teachers, The classes are very busy and easy to follow, but very very challenging. There is a nice variety of styles ranging from Yin to Baptiste Vinyasa and Traditional. The 42 degree heat is oh-soo-nice. I would highly recommend the studio read more
