View over Club Marena is awesome!

A beautiful condominium resort with SWEEPING VIEWS of the ocean and GORGEOUS PICTURESQUE sunsets at night! I've booked stays at Club Marena through Airbnb and this was my 2nd trip to the same Grand Villas building. Each stay was so pleasant and relatively inexpensive at around $100 per night! Many units are owned by Americans and used as Airbnb investment properties/ vacation homes. It can be a bit confusing to get here especially if you are from the states and are not used to driving in Mexico. Yelp has the address as Carr. Tijuana-Ensenada Km 38. 5 and Waze has it mapped out to "Club Marena Condos" at Carretera Federal 1. Well, Waze is perfectly dependable and you can just map it and navigate your car ride through Waze. There's a security gate in front and you will spend a few minutes to register. Hopefully, your Airbnb host has already forwarded your registration to the security guard. We unfortunately had to fill out the same form twice even though we had already sent it to our host. Security guards are a constant presence along the beach behind the buildings and we felt safe throughout each of our stays. There's a parking garage underneath each condo building and if you're lucky, the Airbnb host will give you access to their garage door opener. Otherwise, you will park in their visitor spot. The condos are usually 2 bedrooms/2 baths with wonderfully high ceiling windows and glass sliding doors to the balcony overlooking the ocean. You can easily see the surfers swimming in the ocean and even spot the large Jesus statue in the distance! Unfortunately, there's a new building being constructed next door. It was still in the works even a year ago when we last visited. So I hear the thunderous banging of the construction nearby during the day even a year later. You can easily access the beach by walking past the community pool. The pool is only reserved for owners and not for the rental guests. However, the beach is a nice perk to an otherwise fine resort! We even stopped by the sales office. Apparently they plan on constructing 3 more buildings! YES, THREE MORE BUILDINGS over the next decade. The interior of the the new building is really gorgeous with tasteful modern designs but prices are around $550k with nearly 20% in additional closing costs and a $300/month HOA. The kicker is that even though the existing buildings allow short term Airbnb rentals, the soon-to-be constructed buildings WILL NOT ALLOW SHORT-TERM RENTALS under a month. This would make purchasing the new condos as an investment property an unwise financial decision, especially with the flood of new units over the next decade! Despite the disappointment as a potential investment property, Club Marena is a great condo resort for vacationing! AWESOME VIEWS! And a very reasonable rental price through Airbnb! Will be visiting again next year!

The entire perimeter is fenced in with a security guard at the entrance who keeps tabs on everyone in the complex. A 2 bedroom home can accommodate 4 guests, and they are strict about this. You will not be allowed to have additional guests even for a few hours, therefore it is very safe and private. I love the architecture which ranges from Mexican Baroque to traditional Spanish Colonial and the entire compound has cobblestone streets and cement walking paths. There are several little gardens of roses and other lovely flowers making this a great place to take walks and enjoy the scenery. The large pool/jacuzzi area has plenty of lounge chairs and shaded seating, a shuffleboard court, a gym, and a banquet room. There is also a large surfing beach with several sturdy palapas for all guests and owners to use. A visit to Las Gaviotas is certainly a treat. I love to relax, enjoy a good book followed by a leisurely walk, then swimming and a relaxing dinner when I visit.

We stayed in house 137- the only issues we had was a broken umbrella which wasn't a huge deal at all especially since it was pretty chilly during our stay and the showers are not ADA. I had to get into the shower and help my mom in as it's a tub with no way in except about 2 feet high and no rails to hold on to. We will definitely be back!!

We've even decided to make this our homebase whenever we travel to Tijuana, Rosarito beach, or Ensenada and nixed the idea of buying a property here. I stayed at Rosarito Beach Hotel this past Saturday in the Pacifico Building, booking the Junior…read morePenthouse Pacifico Tower for my family of five. While the ocean view was beautiful, that's honestly where the positives end. The room was very pricey (almost $400 for one night). The couch was extremely uncomfortable hard, worn out, and you could literally feel the metal underneath. The main reason I booked this hotel was to relax and get some work done, so before booking I specifically asked the front desk if the room had WiFi access. I was told yes, so I booked. After checking in, we went out to dinner. When we returned and put the kids to bed, I tried to work there was NO WiFi. I went downstairs to the front desk (in another building), and they handed me a paper with nearby WiFi networks. None of them worked. I called the front desk again and was told they would check with whoever was in charge and call me back. They never did. The next morning, I called again and was finally told that there is no router and no internet in that room. At that point, I felt completely misled like they told me whatever they needed to just to get me to book the room. Their solution? * Work in the main lobby in another building (not possible I have 3 kids and can't leave them alone), or * Use another room only for WiFi, but I wasn't allowed to sit on the beds, use the restroom, or really do anything except sit there. I chose the second option, but it was a huge inconvenience. The room they gave me was 16 rooms away, on the other side. I had to take all my kids with me. At one point, my youngest needed to use the restroom, so we walked all the way back to our room only to find that my key no longer worked. We had to walk all the way back to the lobby again to reset the key just to get into our room. Overall, this was a stressful, frustrating experience. The lack of honesty, poor communication, and total inconvenience showed a real lack of care for guests especially families. I would not stay here again. Después de hacer check-in salimos a cenar. No volvería a hospedarme aquí.
