DO NOT GIVE THIS GYM ANY MONEY. IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THIS GYM, DO NOT JOIN THEIR PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAM. Club:24 signed me up for their personal training program, then after one session their trainers were unavailable for four weeks. When they finally had time to train me, I felt that I no longer needed assistance and decided to cancel the program. I was told I could cancel the personal training at any time, but when I tried to do so, they then claimed that there was a $250 charge to do so. I tried my best to remain a member of Club:24, but the incompetence of my trainer, and the management's inability to correct their own mistakes made it impossible for me to remain a member. ----------------------------------------------------------------- With Edge and Planet Fitness two miles up the street (at the same price) you might wonder why someone might choose Club:24 as your gym of choice. For me it was about convenience. For a while I enjoyed going there. I found the staff to be very friendly (even as much as knowing my name even though I was a new member), and they had all the equipment I needed for my workouts. Management, however, is a different story. When I joined the gym in June I thought I needed some help. I wanted to make sure that I had someone that would hold me to task and force me to get that extra rep (or two). With that in mind I opted to also join their personal training program. BIG MISTAKE! When I signed up, I was told that I can change my program or cancel at any time. I thought this was very beneficial since I thought I'd need a lot of help in the beginning and less as time went on. I signed up for more than I originally planned because of this. The first session (which shouldn't even count as a session) went horribly. The trainer didn't build my workout sheet (which tells me what I'm supposed to do for the week), and instead had me run on the treadmill, elliptical, and bike. He tells me "this is what I make everyone do, but don't worry it's free". It smelled like BS since there was no mention of this when we talked days before (and contradicted what he said). This was my first clue that my personal trainer was not terribly responsible. The second session went well. I had my workout sheet, and we did the first day together. I was concerned that he had to text his boss before we began working out (I've never heard of such a thing). He pushed me hard and I felt good when it was done. I spent the rest of the week completing the other workouts as defined by the trainer. The third session, the trainer rescheduled me for later in the week (also telling me that he had built my workout sheet, which was a lie). On the day that I was to meet the trainer, I received a phone call that he was no longer with Club:24. With only one session under my belt I was left without a trainer. Club:24 did nothing for almost an entire month. After four weeks I finally received a phone call from the new personal trainer who wanted to set up an appointment. I explained my situation and asked to cancel my arrangement (as I was told I could). I was told that I couldn't do that unless I paid a cancelation fee. This cancelation fee is not documented in the payment agreement, and was not verbally communicated during the signup process. NOTE: Nowhere on the Club:24 website or any documentation I have is there a way to reach Club:24 management outside of a mailing address. I sent a letter to the Club:24 office that was ignored. In the end I canceled my personal training agreement, and my gym membership. I feel like Club:24 is in the business to take your money, not to provide a positive gym experience. I joined Edge Fitness the next day after canceling my membership and I couldn't be happier. read more

I have been a member of Club 24 for about 10 years and have been to all the various locations (Mostly Wallingford and Meriden). I started going to the Meriden location when it first opened and it was a great gym, spacious and super clean. It seemed like they had a great thing going. I stopped going there a while back because I had a second membership in Hartford next to my job. Well the hartford location became expensive so I again came back to the Meriden location about 2 years ago. At first it was above par but no where near as nice as Edge or the other gyms in the area. The equipment started getting old and they stopped fixing them, nothing was ever cleaned and bathroom were disgusting. Management changed a couple times and now it is really really bad at the time of writing this review. You walk into the bathroom and it literally smells like a hamster cage, the hand soap is watered down, and the urinal is always out of service. The water fountain has block mold around the drain and algae in the water spout. The treadmills all need to be serviced and are actually dangerous to try and run on, they are missing several dumbbells, there is no longer any curling barbells as they are all broken, all the barbells have loose ends and need to be tightened, the benches are all torn and unstable and need to be services, and they don't even have a damn v-bar for tricep presses. This place is a mess and there are rumors of it being bought out soon (I sure hope it is). I still workout here because it right down the street from me and I cannot stand the crowds at Edge anymore. I just make sure I do not step foot inside the bathroom and I do not touch the water fountain. read more

Good gym. They offer various programs every evening and the gym is quite spacious. There are tons of treadmills and aerobic equipment to use and I rarely have trouble finding an open machine, even during peak hours. Additionally, the weight room is quite spacious and has a wide array of equipment and free weights. Membership is fairly priced. This is a no-frills gyms. read more

Compared to the Wallingford location, this one is a lot more spacious and it never seems to get quite as crowded as the Wallyworld one does on a regular basis. It is conveniently located off of 6-91, but the tanning beds are not as advanced as Wallingford. read more

This gym has a perfect environment for everyone to succeed. No matter what your goals are, you can achieve them at this place. Yes, the dumbbells are too small (only go up to 80's), but there are still pro bodybuilders that train here. They have one step mill which is sick ,and they have a Jacob's ladder, which is very expensive and uncommon at lower end gyms. Much diversity exists here, and all are welcoming, but there are obviously some really intense people here. Elderly people train here as well as the High School football players. The only major problem I have is that one particular manager here is on a power trip, and he likes to change different gym rules at his own personal whim which are not consistent with the rules of other gyms in this chain. My daughter joined this gym first. Then my sister and I joined shortly after. I wished we never did and can't wait for my membership to be done. I honestly don't know what is worse their fat shaming or their homophobia. My sister paid extra for the "burn class." She went for the initial consult and the trainer ignored her and never did the fit test. My sister suffers from Lupus, she's overweight, and she had a hip replacement about ten years ago. She really needs to have her exercise modified which we were told the trainer could do. The trainer was too busy socializing. Then trainer was in a car accident and was no longer teaching the class. The gym refused to give my sister a refund. There is nothing like paying 150.00 to be fat shamed and ignored. This place also offers a free health assessment. What they don't tell you is this is there way of trying to sell you a personal trainer. I went for one and explained that I have MS. Well after a nice dose of fat shaming for me. The personal trainers suggested weight lifting to burn more calories. I made it clear that weight loss wasn't my main goal. I was trying to maintain my strength and MS makes me drop stuff. I really don't think lifting weights is a good idea. And being 20pds overweight is not obese! As for the homophobia, my daughter's friend, who signed all us up is no longer there. Why you wonder? Because he is gay. He was attacked by a co worker at the gym and then was suspended for being attacked. I'm disgusted by the entire situation. I hate the fact that my money is going to a business that allows homophobia. They should be ashamed! Ultimately, if you have any health issues, you are more than 20 pds overweight, or are gay or support gay people this is not the gym for you. read more

It's a fairly decent gym. I don't really have any major complaints or problems. They have all the equipment for a gym including free weights. The bounce balls should be filled more with air to make them a little bit more firmer. I just think the place looks a little run down though. It's not too "new" looking, but that's all I really have to "complain" about, if that. The person at the desk always acknowledges you with a friendly and sincere welcome. I haven't, though, been to any of their classes, like zumba, or had any of their personal trainers. I had a trainer for 4 month until he left the company (should have been a sign). The "new trainer" not once tried to contact me to schedule a session. After 2 weeks and being unable to get in touch, I called National Fitness to cancel my trainer but keep my membership. After speaking with the National Fitness "Member Service Department" (huge help they were) I was told they wouldn't cancel my last payment. They advised me to go back to the gym and speak with them but then I was told they'd probably just have me call National Fitness. Instead of cutting out the middle man (Club 24) I said why can't I just take care of this now. The man on the phone clearly had no answer and just kept repeating what he advise I do. It became clear that National Fitness didn't care and they just wanted their money. At that moment I also canceled my gym membership and convinced 7 of my friends/family to cancel their membership as well. 3 of these people also will not be continuing their trainers. I hope the $170 was worth it National Fitness/ Club 24 cause (while it may not seem like much) you just lost $3,000+ a year from family friends and I. read more

Easily the worst gym in Meriden and maybe CT. There is absolutely no maintenance, half the cardio machines are out of order, the place smells like they mop with sweat water if they actually mopped, and almost all employees are either surfing the Web or on their phones. Edge and Planet Fitness might be too full but they seem cleaner and better maintained. I'm pretty sure this gym won't survive another year open, and if they do its because of all the suckers that joined and don't go or have to overpay to get out of their contract. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! My wife and I have been members here for a few years. I really like it a lot. The staff is really nice and professional and they always keep the equipment clean. I really like the mix of clients as well. It is just a friendly place. Its not like a lot of the chain gyms. Each one has something different. I use the Wallingford sometimes but I just like Meriden better. read more

Please do not hire their trainers!!! Ok so where do I begin? Lets start with the positive things about the gym in Wallingford. I like the fact that they have a private lady workout area. Now lets get to the really bad part........ "Trainers" are not real trainers!!!! I hired a trainer there, who didn't last at the gym for what ever reason. They set me up with another tariner who I can never set up a session with because he was always calling out. Fired that trainner and got a new one, who happen to be ok, I always believe in this "no pain no game" so I knew i had to be getting a good work out if I felt soreness the next day. But that didnt last because for some reason Club 24 fired him. And I never got a phone call. Finally they set me up with a trainer in Wallingford and oh my god..... this guy was a jerk!!!! He worked me so hard, I told him I started to have severe pain on my knees and i really didn't think that was normal. He continued to ignore me and will tell me to continue to do the workouts. Eventually I stop going because of the pain, and I felt so much like a looser(and sure enough he would not follow up with me) So finally I went to the doctors and got an MRI done, come to find out I had a tear in the front, side and back of my knee!!! I had to get surgery, and now I'm trying to heal with physical therapy. My Physical therapist had told me that these guys get a certificate over a weekend and call themselves "profesionals." You have to do your research!! Because of their incompetence I was injured. When your client is telling you that their hurting too much, you should not ignore that and continue with your routine!!! I dont care if they get alot of complainers... but I was a very willing person and likes to be challenged. I love to work out and I had a goal that I wanted to reach, so what ever they will tell me to do I was on it. So please use the gym for your regular workouts but do not hired their trainers. And if you ever want to hire any trainer do your research. read more

I've been coming to this gym for 3+ years. Lately things have been getting worse. The staff is always on their phones and always seem to have a bad look on their face. They do not provide a friendly enviorment at all or are helpful in any way. Some nights it turns to a big party at the front desks with a bunch of people laughing and joking. Although it is a little bit more spacious than Club24 in Wallingford it still lacks much equipment. Today I had to wait atleast 20 minutes for the only curling bar that the gym provides. Much of the other equipment is either broken or has some type of problem. For instance, the belt skipping on some treadmills. The place leaks water and sometimes I wonder when the cieling will finally cave in. I've worked out at the club 24 in Wallingford, Planet fitness in Wallingford, Urban Active Fitness, and the YMCA to name a few gyms but the Meriden one has to be the worst. Look into other gyms before making a decision. read more
