Went in on a Sunday since I heard its the only place to get Cronuts in the area. I went around 1030am and called beforehand to see if they still had some of them and they let me know they only had one banana nutella one that they would save for me. The 12 minute drive was totally worth it. I bought the nutella cronut with banana cream and bananas and the glazed cronut with banana cream and fresh strawberries filling and of course a maple bar with bacon. My kids and I are on a quest to try every donut shop in Fresno/Clovis. I realize how much that sounds like, "We're all going to end up with the diabeetus.". Clovis Donuts was obviously on the list, and we went there on a Monday morning around 10:45. I didn't think they would have any donuts left, but there were actually about 6 or 7 trays left, which was surprising. When we walked in, one of the employees greeted us as she vacuumed the floor. One of the first things I noticed before entering the shop was that it looked clean. No crumbs on the floor, no coffee rings on the table. This is a huge plus when you're prepared for dim lighting and the cliche drunk bum nursing a cup of joe at the corner table. Not this place. Bright, cheery, spacious. There's even a little play area in the corner for the kids and a table with the newspaper set out in case you have time to sit down and savor your pastries. When you get to the counter, they have the prices labeled in small print in front of each tray. I really like the shop itself, which is why I feel like a royal jerk for rating it at 3 stars. The shop is wonderful, but the donuts are lacking. The kid got a cake donut with sprinkles. Run-of-the-mill, no complaints from him. I ordered a maple bar, and the thing was flat and just..eh. When I think about a maple bar, I imagine a big, fluffy pastry, with sweet frosting. This wasn't that sweet and was about an inch high. Not substantial. To its credit, the thing didn't give me a stomachache, which may be because I actually had some self-control and only ate one, but could also be because it wasn't drenched in grease. If I'm ever up super early, I would stop in to try a cronut, but if I'm looking for an amazing donut in that area, I'd head up the street to Clovis/Shaw to Donut Star. read more

The doughnuts are always fresh and tasty. YAY! My major complaint is availability. Quite a few times I've gone there with a certain item in mind (croissants and maple-bacon bars for example) and they don't have them. They do make more throughout the day, but I don't want to make multiple trips. So my advice would be, if you have a hankering for a specific item, call first to see if or when it's available. The only other complaint is that their jelly-filled donuts are not filled - they cut the donut in half, add filling, and replace the top. It's a bit messy. I love this place, it's my go to donut shop not because it's close by, but because it's delicious. I always order French crullers and donut holes. They are so creamy and I love that they aren't dry and not overly sweet. BUT now I have fallen in love with their Cronuts ( croissant donuts ) so delicious! My sister and I tried out the Nutella glazed Cronut filled with banana custard.... Amazing .. It is really sweet though, but good! VERY disappointed! Yes, I get that today was National Doughnut Day - but I PRE-ORDERED and prepaid. I ordered 10 dozen for Friday and 5 dozen for Saturday. They got "mixed up," even though I WATCHED the girl write the dates on my orders when I placed my order so the order forms were accurate. They only had half of my order ready when I arrived at 6:45 in the morning, and a line of 20 people out the door. I then had to wait while they made the rest of my order - not bad, except I also watched as they filled the rest of my boxes with 8 bars each and a bunch a plain-ish rounds. When I've ordered mixed dozens in the past, I've gotten some cereal specialty donuts, sprinkles, chocolate, and differnt flavors, etc - some fun with the plain ones. They ASSURED me, the rest of my order had mixed items including the fun specialty ones - they DIDN'T - all TEN dozen were bars, sugar, crumb, or otherwise PLAIN donuts. I paid almost a HUNDRED dollars for my order, for my coworkers, and got a bunch of PLAIN donuts. No fancy or cool or otherwise interesting flavors. I got ONE old fashioned. ONE out of 120 donuts! AND, I was late for work because they couldn't handle the load. Again, I get that it was a crazy busy day, but that it the POINT of preordering - allowing the business to preplan and have customers' requests ready before they have to deal with that busyness...so disappointed. I found out by 9:30 all the best doughnuts are sold out. I guess you need to get there pretty early. The doughnuts I did get were still fresh tasting and soft inside but I felt the icing was a little heavy and too sweet. They do have some unusual flavors in icings like orange, cherry and blueberry. This place is a great stop before getting the rest of your day going. Whenever I come in during the morning, usually around 7:30am, the place is VERY busy. I love every donut I've ever tried there, and have even brought boxes of them to work. My Co-workers rave about the maple bars with bacon, but my favorite are the French crullers! If you want to take a dozen or more to go, I HIGHLY recommend pre-ordering. Also, if you think coming in after 9-9:30am is going to allow you to have a huge selection to choose from you're very wrong. This place gets a huge morning rush, you know, when people typically eat donuts... My only complaint I would have to say though is that the coffee tastes horrible. A long overdue review... Hands down, the BEST donuts in Clovis. My first impression of them was a couple of years ago when I went in and they had my favorite - maple bar, only with savory maple-smoked bacon on top! I've been around food trends a long time, and have seen some wild stuff in my time as a Chef, but seeing that beautifully shiny piece of maple-smoked bacon laying atop a creamy pillow of maple-glazed goodness almost brought a tear to my eye. I knew that something truly beautiful had landed in Clovis. Where else can you get a cronut locally? Also, this is THE only donut shop that has enough donut holes left mid-morning on a weekend so that I can make my kids happy (for some reason, my picky-ass kids ONLY eat donut holes). Seriously, it seems like all the other usual suspects in Clovis make just enough donuts to get through that 7:00 AM rush on Saturday and Sunday. What's up with that? Nothing is more depressing than walking into a donut shop at 9:00 AM on a Saturday morning and seeing half a tray of unglazed donuts... and that's it. It is NEVER that way at Clovis Donuts. I have never walked in, no matter what time of the day, and seen less than half a dozen variety of donuts to choose from. Walking into a donut shop should be fun, and they make sure it is. Color. That's how I would explain seeing their shelves. Sometimes, you'll find donuts topped with Lucky Charms marshmallows, other times it's with Reece's Peanut Butter Cups. You never know what you'll find, but one thing is for sure... they'll always be whimsical and delicious. The traditional favorites are always represented as well. I can never leave a donut shop without at least three maple bars, and my wife has to have her cinnamon crumble. As you read earlier, the kids need their dozen donut holes. I long ago gave up on even TRYING to go anywhere else for donuts - I simply head here first, because I know they've got me covered. Oh, and the Oreo donuts I had once... The cream-filled cronuts were okay. The custard tasted a bit commercial and overall it was pretty blah for the price I paid. On the bright side, the fruit was fresh and juicy, and the pastry itself looked gorgeous. The quality of donuts at Clovis Donuts is unparalleled. My husband and I stopped by later in the day when their selection was minimal, but every donut (and donut hole!) we got was light and consistent, and the cake donuts were the perfect balance of density and fluffiness. The shop itself is small and clean (in fact, the employee working there had just finished cleaning up a bit when we came in). The one reason I'm giving this place four stars instead of five is that the employee serving us worked quickly, but she seemed inconvenienced that we were there, and didn't smile once at us, despite the excitement and good mannered nature we greeted her with. :/ Still, the donuts were great, and I'd very likely up this review to five stars upon another visit with even better customer service. read more

I haven't found the perfect spot for donuts just yet, but this one is hitting the mark pretty high. I love the convienence of the location, and how friendly the staff is. They welcome you as soon as you arrive, and are always preparing fresh items to keep up with the flow. I just wish more people would visit this location, it's very clean, upbeat, and there's no stress parking wise.
