While discussing with my partner how many keys we needed. a very rude skinny man with a baseball cap on basically told me to shut up as "he" could only talk with one person at a time. I had to bite my tongue as I wanted to call him out on his rudeness. He took the keys and seemed to be having a hard time creating duplicates for us. Finally he gave us our keys, we paid and left. On getting home, four of the six keys were not cut properly and did not work in their locks. I called the store and guess who answered? Yep, this rude individual who now started interrupting me; Not letting me speak. "Just bring them back. I don't need to hear what your saying. I might not be here anyway". Needless to say I will not be returning to this store ever again.

It's unfortunate they can't expand easily but I often order specific items from the Home Hardware website and have it delivered to my neighbourhood location. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and eager to help solve problems. Hello, I have a…read morecomplaint about your staff at the store located at 1212 Dufferin Street. Today, I visited the store to buy something, but when I arrived, the door wasn't locked and there was no one inside. I called out several times, saying "Hello, hello," but nobody responded. Concerned that something might have happened, I went a little further inside and called again, "Hello, is anybody here?" One of your staff members, a tall man, suddenly ran over and shouted at me, asking, "Why did you come in? If the lights are off, it means the store is closed." I apologized, explaining that I didn't know that, but he was very rude and told me to leave, saying, "The store is closed, get out of my store." However, the store was supposed to close at 5 p.m., and it was only 4:03 p.m. at the time. I waited outside for 2-3 minutes and then went back in to ask for the manager. The door still wasn't locked. When I re-entered, the same man opened the door, saw me, and immediately closed it again. I asked for the manager, and he claimed that he was the manager. When I asked for his name, he refused to give it to me. This is highly disrespectful to customers and reflects very poor service. I am considering filing a complaint with Human Rights regarding this issue. No staff member should speak to a customer with that kind of attitude. I look forward to your response and will be following up on this matter.

Recently, I was in Canadian Tired and was appalled by the lack of customer service and aggressive behaviour of staff over leaving my bags at the door. So "no thank you" to corporate hardware services, hello local retailers! This was a tiny place packed with all sorts of items. The staff was interested in helping me find a solution to my problem I was seeking to repair. I watched as they had a rapport with other local businesses and took careful time to discuss how to handle a 'rodent problem' with a neighbour. You only build that kind of trust and rapport by treating people kindly and with care. Discussing the various options including poison was an overheard conversation, but it was telling to me. Customer service is the bread and butter of the retail industry and a good measure of the trustfulness that one can have with a business owner who is attentive and caring. I'm definitely coming back with my business to this store, even though the corporate hardware option is closer.

For a while, I have been looking for a funnel. I have a number of water bottles that have a narrow opening. I like to load hot tea and iced tea in these bottles that keep their temperature for many hours (12 hours for hot and 24 hours for cold beverages). One of the staff there asked me if I needed any help. He found them a few steps away from where I was. I was so close to the funnels! I thanked him for the help. I got three silicone, colourful funnels for $6. If you subscribe to the store's mailing list, you get even more discounts and exclusive offers. I love this store. It's clean and bright. Moreover, one will brush up against others in the middle of a pandemic. By extension the aisles are narrow, boxes are sitting on top of each other, often blocking the aisle and even more often blocking the shelves themselves! It is inconvenient and likely hampering their sales as well. With that said, and the aforementioned scarcity factor aside, this store has many more things than one would imagine and a good place for items for home or garden or to pick up supplies. Even better the couple running the store are knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. Unfortunately, the old adage about owners caring like no mere employee ever would is true. This is a good store to ask for help and receive a friendly reaction.
