I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews. My experience has been fairly terrible in terms of customer service so I'm surprised to see so many praises for their "friendly" staff and "amazing" customer service.
I went to this hardware store because I needed to make two key copies, one for my apartment and one for main entrance of the house I live in, because I had lost mines. I live about 20-25 minutes walk from there, so I went, got my two keys and went back home. The key to my private unit works perfectly. I didn't realize at first, but the key to the main entrance does not work. It took me a few days to realize this because my roommates were home whenever I was arriving or leaving the house, so I didn't have to use my key to lock or unlock the door. However, once I had to actually use the key, I realized there was a problem with it because it took me 15 minutes to lock the door. Not super convenient as I was in a rush and on my way to a meeting. When I had to go back home the next day, I was simply unable to unlock the door and was unable to enter my home. The next day after that, I needed to leave my house and was simply unable to lock the door, so I had to leave the house unlock.
Not exactly fun. I called the store and asked to speak to the owner. I was told he was on vacation for a few weeks (suuure). I spoke instead to a "manager" - but he was so unprofessional I actually doubt he is a manager. I explained the situation, and I explained that the error made by the store placed me in a difficult situation (see all of the examples above), and also because I do not have access to the original key - I gave it back to the landlord, who lives in Markham and doesn't come to the house often. The man did not bother apologizing for my customer experience, and just said that "these things happen" and "keys are not guaranteed". He was basically speaking as if this was a totally normal thing to happen. I politely pointed out to him that it was a little bit wack that he did not bother apologizing for the issue and the problems it is causing me. He became rude and told me he had already apologized - which he hadn't.
So due to the fact that the employee at this little store was unable to do the only job he had to do, I need to 1) pay my landlord to come to the house to give me again the key 2) go back all the way to this store, which isn't even in my neighbourhood 3) get another key. At the end of the day, this 5$ key copy will cost me over 50$ in expenses to get it fixed.
Do yourself a favour and avoid this little store and their employees at all cost. read more
