Based on his reviews, we left it to his expertise / his discerning eye on the positioning of where on the wall each piece should hang so as to utilize the right amount of white space, and he did a fantastic job. My house had a 80's interior that needed updating but the prospect of redoing the whole house was so intimidating I didn't know where to start. Victoria was fantastic in coming up with a design that worked with the space, and she walked me through picking design elements, finishes, and fixtures that would work together and have am inviting, beachy, cohesive look throughout the whole house! Victoria worked to figure out how I use the house and what changes would improve it for me. Victoria created a design that made the space much more welcoming, and suggested subtle changes to the floorplan that made the house more functional and gave it a much better flow. She made renderings and designs to visualize the result, and make sure the contractors understood the design and intent. She made a spreadsheet with alternatives for materials and appliances with costs that helped to plan the project going in, and helped me avoid going over budget on a down-to-the-studs remodel on the whole house. Victoria helped manage the project including working with the general contractor to make sure work was performed correctly and in accordance with the design. She helped find specific detail contractors, like a custom stair rail fabricator, to make sure the vision of the house became a reality. I couldn't recommend Victoria and Sound of Home more, because of Sound of Home my remodel was a success.

In hindsight, the thousands of decisions big and small are made better when there is an experienced eye involved. We found that experienced eye in Jamie Roddy of EdenLA located in Manhattan Beach, CA When you hire an Interior Designer, what are your expectations? Do you want to give them some guidelines, get them to know you and then have them come up with recommendations? Or, do you want to work alongside of them in a collaborative manner? Jamie is equally good at either approach. In our case, we liked to collaborate with her in real time. My wife and I would sit with her in her studio in front of a big screen monitor. We would surf the web pulling together the furniture, materials, colors and accents that we all agreed upon. In some cases, she gently "guided" to consider things that on our own we might not have done. Now that we see those decisions in place, we're glad we were gently pushed to expand our thinking about what we wanted. You may not have the time to spend the time like that, but we did and we loved the outcome of the process.
