Maggie is a friend and colleague I've known since we were in conservatory together. I can very…read morehighly recommend her as a teacher. First of all, obviously, she is an excellent and versatile performing musician with expertise in traditional classical and contemporary popular styles. But lots of teachers have resumes just as impressive as Maggie's - what many don't have is her extremely communicative, personal and joyful approach to teaching. A music lesson with Maggie isn't only about learning to produce the right notes at the right time from your voice or instrument, it's about taking pride and joy in the learning process, exploring thoughts and feelings through the power of music and learning to express them in performance with courage and honesty. If I had to sum up what I've seen of Maggie's teaching philosophy in a "slogan" I'd say that her goal is to make sure the musician on stage is having just as good a time as the listener in the audience. We had The Radio band from Hipster Mama Productions play for our wedding in August 2016. WOW! They…read moretotally rocked. We hadn't seen them in person before hiring them, but the videos online looked good and since we didn't have time to check out one of their shows, we pulled the trigger. We couldn't have been happier! SO many guests have told us our wedding was the best party they've been to in a long time. Their song mix was perfect, and the dance floor was packed the whole night. Turi's voice is amazing! One of our guests didn't dance, and when I asked him why, he said that he felt like he was at a really amazing concert and couldn't move he was so into the music. One super convenient thing was that they package in some additional ceremony sound things. So, when we got quotes from other bands, they would nickel and dime every line item (use of mic during ceremony - $100, use of speaker during ceremony - $200, etc). Getting ONE price that covered everything from Hipster Mama made our lives so much easier. Turi from Hipster Mama came to our vendor walk through and figured everything out, so we didn't have to worry about a single detail on the day of! Guests could hear both of us during the vows, the ipod music they played was spot on, and most of all, they kept the party dancing until closing time!
