Nice Sky Adventures - Paragliding, South Side of the Mountain at dawn.

Nice Sky Adventures

Troy Bolton said it best with, " we're soarrrrrin', flyyyying!"…read more But really, with the wind beneath my bingo wings, I felt free and alive, ready to take on the world. Nice Sky Adventures were very accommodating to our group of five. It's kind of a gamble because you have to have ideal wind conditions, and when we went it wasn't the MOST perfect of days. So we were given three options: come back a different day, wait and see if it gets better, or still go but the ride would be shorter. Since we are not from around here, we decided to go and make the most out of it! We had Alex and Chris, who were both wonderful pilots and easy to chat with. If you're feeling at all nervous--KNOCK IT OFF. Because these homies know what they've been doing and they've been doing this for years and years. So just go! Go and enjoy your day, enjoy the friendships you'll make, and enjoy the freedom you'll feel while paragliding! TIPS & TRICKS: * If you love it as much as I did, ask them about becoming a pilot yourself. They actually travel the world during the winter and teach others how to fly--so, what do you say? * Bring good tennis shoes because you will be running off the side of a mountain. Also bring a comfortable jacket and wear thermals under your jeans (if you go in the morning at 8AM, like we did). They also have you wear a helmet, so don't put your hair in a nice top knot, because it will become a top NOT. * Practice taking some selfies on a GoPro--you'll definitely want to get some fun and better angles with your chute in the background. * Have fun and practice your smile, because you'll definitely be doing a lot of it.

NSA Paragliding is awesome!!! If you want to learn how to thermal safely, join their Columbia trip…read more This is 100% the best first step for learning to thermal and going XC.This transformed my flying entirely. I had never gone XC before the 2021 clinic and now I have flown XC all over the place Chris and the team make everything go incredibly smoothly and the Columbian air is incredible!! Highly recommend! They also hooked me up with an awesome tandem flight for my dad and he absolutely loved it!

Paraglide Utah - A students first flight off the mountain!

Paraglide Utah

I got the chance to go paragliding back in April when I was traveling to Utah. My experience was…read morenothing short of amazing. Brad was very nice and got my friend and I super excited about jumping off the side of a mountain.. lol Sadly the weather wasn't up to par on that afternoon so we couldn't venture out too far, but it was still worth it! P.s. my friend got some amazing shots!

Brad will happily take your $$$ for the SIV course. He may have a ton of knowledge and be a "god"…read moreto some, but Is not professional or organized which can be annoying to professional time-conscious people . It is mostly hurry up and wait. He allowed 11 students in one class -all skill levels(definitely effects 20 min of tow/air time)uses 1 boat and no backup, doesn't provide a syllabus in advance, doesn't specify the type of radios (frs/gmrs/ham/aviation) or life preservers he requires or the channel setup (or why the use of HAM radio mid-frequency when the Utah paraglider rules specifically states no ham frequencies will be used for SIV training). He's cryptic about the location of the water training, is never on time, bad mouths other air sport pilots and gear and comes across rude in text and email when requesting detailed information. He'd prefer you pay him $75 to stay at his house rather than tell you only one day is spent there for class training and that the location for water training allows free BLM camping on Utah Lake. Although there are no facilities on site, there is plenty of room for multiple Class A RVs, campers, tents etc... 40.1985414n 111.8867857w are the coordinates he gives for directions to the water training site. You can not drive directly there. In normal people directions it's "...HWY 68 to mile marker 19 take the gravel road towards the lake...park at the top of the bench(flat area) if you are in an rv." You can drive an auto down to the cement barricade and park. You have to haul your gear apx. 1/2 mile from the cement barricade, (near the water/boat launch,) so bring a wagon, chair, drinks, food, and shade pop-up. There is no secure area for gear so you take gear home each night. The information gleaned from this course is useful but you need to seriously consider the value of your time, size of class etc... when deciding to commit to this course.

The Birdman Academy - Hang Gliding & Paragliding

I did a lot of research before deciding to learn how to hang glide at Kevin's school, and I…read moretravelled all the way from Virginia to Utah to learn to hang glide from the "Birdman". Best decision I've made that I can remember! From my first flight a few feet off the ground , to a guided tandem flight, my first soaring flight, my first mountain flight, I learned at my own pace thanks to Kevin's down to earth and SAFE instructional style. This is an inherently dangerous sport, and thanks to the birdman academy I have not had an injury to date (knock on wood). Kevin doesnt force you to buy equipment through him, unlike many other hang gliding schools, and his training equipment was new and in good condition. The birdman academy has led me through my hang 1 all the way to hang 4, and ive been lucky enough to fly at iconic mountain, coastal, and desert sites all over the country. After having met and flown with instructors from california, oregon, washington, Virginia, Tennessee, and north Carolina, I still think I made the right choice on where to earn my wings. Hang gliding can be anything between a bucket list item and a lifestyle, and I highly recommend you learn from the birdman academy.

I bought six lessons took three and decided it wasn't for me and Kevin promptly refunded me for the unused lessons without hassle. The lessons were fine. Kevin is definitely knowledgeable and passionate about hang gliding/paragliding etc (he's literally opening another school in Australia so he can do it year-round). I'd definitely recommend him.

A few years ago, I took a basic paragliding instructor rating class with Bill. While I thought…read morethe class to be very informative, trying to get a hold of him to get the rating filled out, and to see what he would like me to do to satisfy him in order get the rating, has been impossible. NUMEROUS phone calls and texts requesting him to contact me have been unanswered. While I don't want to feel like I am bothering him, and I completely understand he is busy, but the number of unanswered calls and texts are pretty irritating because I need this rating in order to help me make a living. I hate that I even have to take the time to write a bad review, I would much rather just get the rating issue sorted out and move on. If Bill were to contact me, and proactively work on sorting out this issue, and help me get the rating that I paid for, I would me more than happy to revise this review. I would be ecstatic. This is especially irritating, because before the class, I called and specifically asked him if he any reason to not want to sign a paragliding instructor rating for me, and he said something to the effect of: No, I think you will do fine, you are smart and motivated and can fly well. OK then, sweet, lets take a class, which I was happy to pay for. Just to be clear, I do not want any payment or refund for the class I paid for, all I want is the reasonable assistance from Bill in getting the rating which the class was for. Not being able to get this rating taken care of has caused me a great deal of anxiety and stress. I hope to hear from Bill soon, and am very eagerly hoping to get this sorted out without any unnecessary hassle. If Bill is not wanting to sign my rating for any reason, I respect his opinion but find it fairly dis honest that he would not let me know this when I specifically asked him this question, before I took and paid for the class. In my opinion, then would have been the appropriate time for him to tell me why he doesn't think I would be qualified (he has known me and seen my flying for years, I'm not just some random guy.....)
