My family and I are new fans of Cloud 9 Day Spa! We recently held a private Mothers Day celebration there and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I arranged our spa day with the owner, who went out of her way to open the spa for us on a Sunday and have three dedicated professionals there take care of us. There were four of us visiting that day: my mother-in-law and my two sisters-in-law. They had wine for us, and let us decompress in their relaxation room before our treatments began. We also brought our own drinks and some cheese-and-cracker type snacks to really make an event of it! The timing of our services was pleasant and professional. With there being four in our party, we alternated services: while two of us were getting massages, the other two got foot detox treatments and hand pampering (then we swapped). The massages were wonderful! We also loved the foot and hand treatments; they were the owner's idea and made it so that two people didn't have downtime while waiting for the other two to finish massages. And did I mention the price? They gave us a group rate and we found the whole day to be an affordable and very do-able group treat! Fair prices can be hard to find in the spa world, so this was a plus! The only reason I gave 4 stars out of 5 is that I thought it might have been nice for them to ask if any of us had a gender preference when it came to our massage therapists. My sisters-is-law and I were all perfectly happy to go with the male masseuse, but my mother-in-law did not want him to do her massage. He gave massages to both of my sisters-in-law and they said he was just fabulous! We found him to be polite and professional, and he asked for feedback on his work to make sure the girls were happy. (I love a massage from anyone--male or female--but it was my MIL's first massage, hence her apprehension. She mentioned that now that she's no longer a massage newbie, she'd go with him if given the choice.) Overall, both massage therapists were great! The other reason for the rating is that the retail area in the lobby is very busy-looking and has a somewhat confusing array of beauty and boutique items. The only reason this stood out to me is because I spent 10 years in the beauty industry and think a cleaner, simpler presentation is more appealing. But don't let this deter you! The good stuff is in the back, and we were so happy to sip our wine in the relaxation room on that rainy day. Overall, great job Cloud 9! read more

I was a former employee here of less than a year back in 2014. Plus the spa looked cute! I liked the owner initially because of Eastern European roots and giving me a chance to work fresh out of massage school.... The actual experience working for the owner was dreadful. She her staff fill out I-9s for taxes, so all hours worked and wages should have been to staff and payment was supposed to be every 2 weeks. This didn't happen. She would long texts about needing staff to wait to deposit checks because she had to pay her bills. She would constantly text staff to cash our checks instead. The few linens provided in the treatments rooms were always mildew smelling or just dirty looking. I constantly brought all my sheets, essential oils, lubricants and room decor whenever I had hours for her. I should have left sooner! I just walked out and left. She later accused me of stealing her sheets (easily could prove they were mine from massage school because my name was on them) and her less than stellar body oils. This was laughable. I actually did leave the $5 Walmart clock I used there. Would not recommend this business to fellow massage therapists or future clients. I doubt he is still working for Irena, but the only reason person I could recommend as a good massage therapist is someone named David Banks. He's the only reason I stayed at Cloud 9 as long as I did. I learned a lot about massage therapy and the industry from him. Very surprised to see this place is still open for her treatment of staff and clients. It was a huge group on place. After working for this owner, I went on to work at a wonderful business called By the Sea Day spa in Branford, they actually moved into a larger place on the green in East Haven. Seriously recommend everyone go there! I would still be there had I not moved out of state in 2017. Awful, would give them 0 stars if possible for their poor customer service especially for Groupon owners. If they do not want customers to use Groupon, they should not advertise on there. Below is a detailed account of my experience: I first called in November and the woman I spoke with told me she couldn't make an appointment right then because she couldn't get onto the computer because it was a Tuesday and they were closed, but she took all of my information. She also told me they were behind in scheduling massages because they had moved but that they would extend my Groupon. About a week later: I didn't hear anything, so I called back and she was a bit rude because she insinuated that I wasn't supposed to call back. She said that they were not scheduling new appointments yet but that they would probably be able to fit me in in mid-February. She said they would contact me. They never did. Friday, February 8: I called and left a message, explained the situation and asked if they were scheduling massages yet. They texted later that day and asked for the Groupon info and when I was free. I replied. February 9: They texted back and said I probably would not be able to get an appointment until April unless I wanted a facial instead. I refused so they said since the Groupon was expiring, they would email a gift certificate that won't expire and contact me with an appointment date later that day. Absolutely the worst customer service. I called to book and received a text message to book instead. I sent my information with the booking details of the day/time and service that I wanted. After numerous messages, they kept asking me what service I wanted and for what day yet I had already stated. I repeated myself and was told it was impossible due to COVID. U was told I had to book More in advance. I asked what exactly about the regulations due it so I had to book so far in advance and is they were not allowed to book for august, I was met with extreme rudeness and unprofessional responses. Run! Do not walk into this place. Run away. I hope you did not get SCAMMED. No one works here except the owner Irena who is in over her head. If Irena does hire anyone they leave and the appointments are already booked. The main way Irena makes money is up front from websites like Groupon or charging your credit card. Its a SCAM. The front looks like a flea market disguised as a spa. All the products and linens are old,expired , and past their prime. Irena is on the phone all day thinking of ways to con and scam instead of actually running a day spa. Visit any other day spa and what do you see? I think Irena should visit an actual day spa and take some notes. Also look at other spas and they have group photos of staff. Why? Because they have a staff. I had a facial. The product didn't smell good at all, smelled "old". Esthetician was nice but was apparently up selling me during the treatment without being clear about upcharge price. The exfoliant she used, which was actually the "nicer" stuff felt like sand, didn't feel good or smell good and was hard to get off. Wished she hadn't used it. Music was way too loud and was skipping (annoying). Linens and towels didn't smell pleasant. When I left my skin looked good/fine/normal but I was in a hurry to rinse my face and put on moisturizer because my face felt tight and a bit man handled by the exfoliant that felt like sand. On the way out they charged me a $9 booking fee which no one said anything about upon booking. Adding more this evening....now, 9 hours later, my face feels terrible - tight and as if I got sunburned. Bad experience....crappy product. read more

It was rediculous to schedule through playing text tag due to no one answering the phone or calling back all they wanted was to text. My husband purchased a Groupon then tried to schedule an appointment, which took forever to receive a call back despite their telephone message saying they respond with 24 hours. When my husband scheduled the appointment, she was rude and condescending when he tried to ask clarifying questions. So we cancelled the appointment, which was a month away. However, when we went back to Groupon to process the refund, we can see that she (the owner) had already redeemed the voucher on the day that we booked the appointment. Great prices and service in a beautiful new day spa

Awful. Went in for a spa pedicure to treat myself. No real pedicure chairs. My chair was very low, while the footstool my feet were on was very high. VERY uncomfortable. The girl had no clue what she was doing and took over two hours. I should have gotten up after the first hour. When she was finally done - and I'm not exaggerating about it being over two hours, I spoke with the manager and politely told them they had no business offering pedicures. Just because they do nails doesn't mean they're ready for pedicures. Perhaps they're great at facials, I don't know - just don't waste your time getting a pedi! read more

Lisa is the best masseuse ever! I bought 2 groupons for a 50 minute sweedish massage for my girlfriend and I. As soon as we stepped foot inside the door we were treated so nicely. The ambiance in the waiting room is perfect. I love the European touch as well. So soothing. Lisa may be petite in size, but girl knows how to give a great massage, especially with stretching me out during it. IT FELT AMAZING. The complimentary hot stones was the icing on the cake. I've never written a bad review but felt the need to with this business due to how I was treated. I was giving a groupon for Cloud 9 as a Christmas gift. I called them to book an appointment and was asked have I ever been to there location , I told them no. After giving my name she said it sounded really familiar (I don't have a common name) and that if I wanted I can cancel the Groupon and repurchase directly with her. I told her it was no need since I was a new customer. Long story short she put me on hold twice for about 10minutes each. As I write this review I am still on hold and it's been 20minutes now. It appears they don't want to honor Groupon (they should have never advertised). She was very rude when she finally came to the line. And got very angry when I asked for her name(Amy) and hung up on me. After this encounter I honestly wouldn't want a massage from this place. Booked a 1 hr Swedish massage. I have had several massages in my life and they always included hands, arms, legs and most of the time feet. They told me they upgraded me to a stone massage and it was fine but lasted only a few minutes. However, while she was waiting for the "stones to cool down" she asked if I wanted to upgrade to include hands and feet for $25. What? Ok I said as what was I supposed to do while waiting for the stones to cool down. They also add $14 (approximately) as another charge, for what? Also, that $25 charge for hands and feet lasted maybe 8 minutes. The additional selling for other services is not good while you are trying to just relax and get your massage. Don't waste your time or money. This place is a joke, when you first arrive you are not sure if you are at a flea market or a spa. They sell used, old and strange goods from north face clothing, vintage pictures and Christmas ornaments. The place is dirty and needs to updated. I'm really not sure how they are still in business. I was told that my appointment was at 2:00 and I needed to show up 15mins early, so I did. After I was sitting waiting the owner said my appointment is really for 2:15, they allow 15mins to relax. My first appointment got rescheduled because a girl was out sick, not a big deal. Then the day before my next appointment I woke up with the flu. Scam! Scam! Scam! Read all of the reviews before going here! Avoid this place at all costs. I bought a Groupon for my wife for a hot stone massage. We called to schedule an appointment. They said they are way behind because of moving locations. We told her the Groupon would then be expired and she told us not to worry about it, there would be no fee for the Groupon expiring. Then, the masseuse called and cancelled the appointment on me. I rescheduled. They called me the week of and changed my appointment time without even giving me a choice in the matter. My wife went for her hot stone massage and came home. She said they charged her an additional $20 Groupon Fee for using a Groupon here (not for expiring, for simply using it). She also said that she did not get a hot stone massage they only used their hands for a traditional massage. So I decided to get involved and call the Spa and look into the matter. The person who answered, I am assuming it was the owner was very rude, did not let me get a word in, kept asking me the same questions over and over and hung up on me eventually. I called right back and got no answer. They called me back a few minutes later and told me to take it up with Groupon and I should have known there was a fee. There is no fine print at all on the Groupon of any additional fees after the Groupon has been paid for unless it has expired. Me and two of my co-worker friends received gift certificates for the lavish 6-hr pampering packages. We were excited to all go together and have a relaxing and well-deserved "ladies spa day".... I had to make the appointment probably almost a month out to find a Saturday that Irena (the owner) would have enough staff to accommodate the three of us in one day. No problem, the day I booked our appointment was also the ONLY day this month my friends & I could all meet up as well with our busy schedules. I arrived first and there was a young man behind the reception area looking confused. I explained to him I had made an appointment for the three of us for the 6-hr packages. He said he was new & apologized while he looked for the forms for us to fill out. Then Irena came to the desk to inform me that just a few minutes before I arrived her aesthetician had just called out sick on her & that she would not be able to fully provide all three of us with the original package services. She said that we could swap out some options or get credit to return another day for the missing services. She started to try to explain our alternative options but was really only making it very confusing. She started to go to her laptop, then didn't get on it & would start talking, then stop & start writing something down, then stop & bring me to the brochure, but couldn't find what she was looking for, so would go back to writing & using the calculator to get some numbers that the services cost for credit, trying to go back to the brochure then saying "the prices were not right & the new brochures hadn't come in yet", and all this back & forth was getting me dizzy so I told her I thought that would be fine, but wanted to wait for the other ladies to decide what we would do. I had to tell her to stop & wait for the others more then twice, that they would be here very shortly. When my friends arrived a few minutes later, they were also disappointed to hear the update but were trying to be very nice about it & I thought we all were trying very hard to be flexible with Irena. So after probably close to 30 minutes of negotiating who gets what, when & where we find out there are only male massage therapists today. Aggghhh! I am a regular spa attendee, but do not like men to massage me (personal preference) & one of my friends also was not comfortable with a male masseuse. Irena mentioned that "I did not specify a female & that the men are excellent & do a great job, but if I felt uncomfortable I could reschedule". When I asked if we could reschedule Irena said it would not be possible to reschedule the three of us again on a Saturday for our packages. I said "Like forever? Even if we make it for a month from now?!" She said no "because it is so hard with them being a small spa to accommodate so many people at once". I get it, I really do, but she should have just said that when I made the appointment for us a month ago. So one of my friends and me decided to just leave & reschedule another day (separately) for our services. We insisted that our other friend stay and get all of the services for herself instead, since she NEVER gets time to herself with her busy schedule. Walking out my friend & I were very disappointed, not just in the fact we woke up so early on our day off to get there, or we had been trying to schedule this day for the three of us since December, but the way Irena was then starting to get annoyed that we were going to come back another day. She was annoyed because "she had booked her staff for all day services with us & therefore would be missing out on business if we left". I then (calmly) reminded her while I could empathize with her being left short-handed (no one can help when they get sick, it happens), it wasn't our fault she doesn't have a back up person. AND the fact is that these gift certificates were purchased last December so she has already gotten paid for them well in advance regardless if we ever come back??? Honestly, I have never had such an unorganized, bad first impression of a spa in my life...free or not I still may not ever return here to redeem this certificate. Mind you our Boss spent BIG money on these packages for us! (he's so wonderful!) I mean like $$$, they are a very expensive spa. I just finished reading the other Yelper reviews and all the other negative comments & horrible services experienced here. I bought a deal for this on living social...so I booked a facial. Really not good, obviously. When I went in to change, I noticed that the room I was in was not as clean as I expect a spa to be, and the robe I put on felt damp, and really did not smell fresh - the same could be said of the sheets. So even before my facial began I was a little grossed out, but I tried to keep a optomistic outlook on it. Parts of the facial were okay, and I was offered the extra "exfoliant treatment" for an extra $45, and I figured what they hell so I said yes. However, a couple of times during the facial, the owner, who was doing my facial and the only one there, had to get up from my facial to attend to whomever she heard walking into the spa...very weird. She did not do any "hard work" on my skin, it really felt like a light massage. Then, after she put on what I guess was the treatment I spent an extra $45 for, she left the room with no explaination and was gone for 10 plus minutes...possibly to take a smoke break, as I thought I smelled smoke on her when she came in the room, and she washed her hands for a while before touching my face again. But maybe this was coming from the outside of the building, I really can't be 100% about that. But thats the impression I got. She removed the mask from my face and told me I was done. There was no real work done on my face in my opinion...when I got home I could still see the blackheads on my nose. Basically I spend $100 for someone to massage my face? I did not tip, and I NEVER do not tip at all. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. My husband and I received massages here, which were fine, but like others had said, the music is blasting and there is no real relaxation factor. The reason I would never allow anyone close to me to gain services from here is from their receptionist staff. A month after service, I was called by Cloud9 stating that the Groupon I used did not go through; although, I had already confirmed it/paid the balance. Once I questioned why I was not aware of this sooner, the receptionist, who later was found to be named Emily, became very defensive, rude and demeaning. I let it be known that I did not appreciate the attitude I was receiving and Emily continued to call me rude and refused to give me her name when asked. I have never had such a distasteful customer service experience. I called back to speak to the owner about this issue at a later date but they were unable to be reached; this is when Emily identified herself, asked for my Groupon number, verified it, and confirmed there was no further action to be taken by me (all of this done without me providing who I was prior). Something about the whole situation does not sit right with me and at no point should any customer ever have an interaction like I had this past weekend. Please do not waste your money here. There's a reason why there are always deals on Livingsocial and Groupon for this place...no one wants to be a repeat customer, so the owner needs to lure newbies in with a deal. I was one of those that fell for the Livingsocial deal for a Swedish massage. I called to make the appointment, but no on answered, so left a message to have a call back to a different number. As soon as I hung up I received a call back right from the owner asking if I just called. Umm yeah. So I told her I have the Livingsocial deal. She immediately tried to up-sell me into a longer massage. I insistently replied I just wanted the 50 minutes that was part of the deal. I made an early appointment with a male masseuse (the only masseuse apparently available). At this point I was looking forward to my visit. Fast forward to the morning of the appointment, on a hot July day. I arrived about 15 minutes early, as most spas request. As I walked up the street I noticed the spa was dark. Weird. I get to the door and it's locked! I peeked in, but saw no one. I went around the corner and waited until about 5 minutes before my scheduled appointment. I got back and my masseuse was now waiting outside the door! I asked him what was going on and he said the owner was just arriving. About 5 minutes later he says "there she is now", as she drove through the intersection. *sigh* Irena (the owner) finally let's us in. The place was hot as hell. She tells me the air conditioning cools it down quickly. I'm thinking to myself, "I hope so, I don't want my own sweat to be my massage oil". Then she had the nerve to ask me what other spas I've been to and if I liked the service. She also tried to up sell me for a longer massage again. I was offered a glass of water, which was tepid at best. I already have a bad first impression. I was taken back to my massage room and the masseuse (whose name escapes me) got to work. I was still hot when it started, but everything else was pretty uneventful. The pressure wasn't great and the strokes seems sort of erratic. Then came the nail in the coffin...he burped. It wasn't loud, but I heard it sneak out and then immediately smelled it. It was oniony. I am not one to typical get grossed out by bodily functions, but if you're in a profession where you're up close and personal with people all day, it's advised that you lay off the gassy cuisine. I had to do everything in my power not to laugh or wave the stink away from my face. Yes, I was face up and he was near my head. He also let one go when I was face down. The man needed some tums apparently. I heard a bang on the wall and then it seemed like the massage ended very abruptly. He did not use a "spa" voice. It was more of a normal speaking volume. Sort of jarring. I believe I got my full 50 minutes though. I got dressed and went out to pay. Irena has a very odd demeanor, sort of abrasive. She was pushing for me to schedule another massage. I was very unimpressed, so I had no desire to do so. I found it strange that there were no other clients in the spa, but now having first-hand experience I knew why. I booked my appointment for massage and facial using Groupon voacher. Well, There shure reasons for deals.... The massage was horrible and it was done by one of the "newest members of their team", who "supposed to be excellent" - accordingly to the owner. Not only she didn't know how to do massage, but she also hurt by back. The salon is not welcoming and I had to wait for almost 30 miniutes before I could do my facial. Their goal is to sell products (i.e. facial cream, toner, etc), which are outrageously expensive (around $100 each). The facial was OK, but nothing special. They didnt' even give me a bathrobe, the bed was cold and the owner (who did my facial) left me for 10 minutes alone in a cold room. After all, they charged me sell taxes and gratitude. I won a gift certificate to this spa for $50 almost a year ago. I am true to another spa, which I won't ever cheat on them again, especially with this place. When I got there, no one was there to greet the customers, there were 4 separate people waiting. It was like I was in a consignment shop, they sell too many trinkets and clothing for a spa. Next, finally Irina (the owner) comes and checks me in. Appointment is for 1pm. It's now just about 1pm. She said oh your gift certificate is old, not sure we can take it, I have to see it first. I had made sure on the phone it would have been acceptable and she said it was. Ok good. They bring me to the relaxation room, I wanted some water, but there was none in the bottle so I asked for her to change it. That didn't happen. Finally I get to change in the back and it's a gross bathroom you change in with a shower like my house has. Being a spa I would think you would have more than one bathroom and a better shower system for your patrons. I change and have to go back to the relaxation room. The masseuse finally comes to get me but he is just coming to tell me that he has to clean the room and will be with me shortly. It's now 1:20pm.'I'm aggravated now. Finally get my massage and he does the whole back, shoulders, and feet and then said he ran out of time so he can't finish. Um, okay. I was really mad now. Went to pay and Irina started offering me massage packages that were only available for special pricing that day. I opted to not get anything. The kicker is that I wanted to pay with a credit card and she said we don't take them today, the machine was down. I can go down the street to the bank and come back with cash. I was floored as a business owner you would even say that to a client. So I was honest and went to get cash and came back. Now I see there is a sign in their window they have an ATM inside there. I didn't even go to the spa. I called, texted, re-texted to ask for a menu of services... received a text back from two different numbers and then a phone call. I must have asked "menu of services, please" 7 times without a suitable response. They kept asking when I wanted to come and telling me how terribly busy they are. I finally gave up and decided that if getting a list of services was so maddeningly painful, I did not want to give them my business. GAH! read more
