When recipient arrived at the spa (in the pouring rain) for the verified appointment time, it was dark, locked, and closed for the day. When we called to decipher the lack of service, the woman was extremely rude, accusatory, and was extremely chaotic. The business also redeemed the Groupon before any service was rendered (also known as a fraudulent transaction).. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. This place is a ripoff and needs to be shut down. I had a Groupon for a hot stone aromatherapy massage. First of all I had to call several times to even get an appointment and was placed on hold 15 minutes during the call. I gave them the gift certificate number over the phone and made the appointment. I was called that morning to tell me the masseuse called out but as she could offer me a 30 min back massage and a head massage in place with complimentary reflexology. Rather than go through the ordeal of rebooking, I said that would be fine. I get to the appointment 5 Mins and between the paperwork and changing and getting in the room, I already lost 20 min on my hour appointment. I assumed I would be granted the hour extended but when I finished I checked the clock and my appointment was for 40 Mins!! I went to the front to checkout and give a tip and was given a bill for a service charge and tax. From a groupon that was a gift?!?! How do u not tell customers that in the phone??? The girl kindly called the owner for me because I was annoyed and the first thing she did was asked me if I booked another appointment. Like what, I'm still Pissed about this appointment! So she agreed to waive the tax and just charge me the service charge. The credit card machine was not working so I had to leave a credit card number. I then get a message that the Groupon I used was expired so I had to pays portion of the services so she went ahead and charged my credit card $58 without my authorization! I was upset and called her back and was told she was doing a facial and would call me as soon as she finished. Several hours later I got a nasty voicemail stating it's Groupon's problem and I need to call them and "they do not have time to deal with my problem." I bought a Groupon for this place and was so excited to use it. I got a confirmation text for my appointment and then another text saying they were "upgrading" me to aromatherapy. I had purchased a 60 minute Swedish massage and they told me via text that they would not massage my legs. When I told them I was denying the upgrade and wanted what I purchased, they got VERY rude with me and told me they were cancelling my appointment because they wouldn't tolerate my behavior. What behavior? All I had said was that I did not want the upgrade and wanted to keep my original purchase and appointment time. They stated I was harassing them and to not come in if I was unhappy with the services they were providing me. This is the MOST unprofessional thing I have ever experienced. I have never been treated so poorly by a company, especially by one that is supposed to relieve stress. 10/10 would NOT recommend this place unless you want to be treated like garbage and get ripped off. read more

First off this place is a dump! I had a party if 3 go I'm for massage and facial and they it have 1 masseuse working. Really. We had an appointment but they don't go by that apparently bc we were there 4 hours waiting. I only received a facial. Which was good but I cancelled my massage bc I waited 3 hours. The owner kept telling me a few more minutes which mentioned 30-45 minutes. The place to me seemed sketchy and the owner was very weird and not a good weird. what was supposed to be a relaxing day turned into a nightmare especially when I thought I was gunna be there for a hour or so and receive the services I paid for. The owner was hesitate to give me my money back but she did credit the massage back to my credit card as she saw how mad I was. I don't understand how you can only have 1 massage person working. I was very dissatisfied with my experience. I had purchased a 90 minute hot stone massage on Groupon, so I guess I shouldn't have expected much. From the moment you walk in, the front store area is filled with tacky flip flops and jewelry, it looks like a thrift store. I had to wait at the front desk for several minutes with nobody to help me, until I wandered into the back area to get some help. I had a 2:00 appointment, I know it was for 2:00. I arrived at 1:50 and was told my appointment was for 1:45 and that I was late and they were in a rush to accommodate me. Fine whatever... I told them they could end my massage early. I felt that was very generous of me, I wish I hadn't been so generous. The woman who helped me, who also seemed like the owner, did not have change for me even though they charge taxes and fees on top of their Groupon, which I have never had to pay before, and there was an issue with their credit card machine. She ran out to get change during my appointment. During my massage, there was music blasting through the business that was so loud I couldn't relax at all, and had to ask it be turned down. I was also able to hear the owner bustling around and talking during the massage just outside the massage room. I was also made to feel quite rushed before my massage, as if they didn't have time for me even though I showed up early to my appointment. During my massage, my massage bed was not heated, I was actually cold during it even though they were using hot stones. Also, the light in the room was so bright I had to ask for something to cover my eyes and was offered a tissue... Sorry to say, it was not a relaxing experience. I will not be returning. My recommendation is that the business renovates a bit, ditches the tacky store front, and invests in some heated massage beds. I am leaving two stars only because Jennifer was a lovely, skilled masseuse. She was kind and made sure that I was comfortable, and finished off her massage with some health tips. read more

I must agree with other reviewers regarding the damp, moldy conditions at Cloud 9 Day Spa. I've visited for massage and facial services, and both times, the robe was damp and smelly, while the entire salon had a moldy odor and felt damp. These are the reasons that I will not be returning. I'm a little confused by the reviews on here. I have been going to Cloud 9 for years and even travel 2.5 hours from my current city to have Irena shape my eyebrows. I have not experienced any rude behavior by the staff there and I have always enjoyed my services. The best is the express facial it's fast and affordable. I can't imagine this place gets repeat customers ever. I honestly like to forget I even went here last month. First off-had a Groupon (I have bought other spa packages through Groupon that have been amazing btw so I wasn't too concerned) for a aromatherapy massage, 30 min head/neck massage and 20 dollars for my next visit (too bad I will never have another visit). The owner wasn't in the place and the spa is so disorganized and you feel more anxiety looking at the stuff they try and sell you rather than relaxed. I proceed to show them the Groupon and this woman who "is a friend of the owner" and had no clue how to run the place would not let me use the Groupon because "at the time I bought the Groupon the prices on the brochure were in the process of getting raised" now WHY is that my problem? Raise the Groupon price or at least let me know when I booked it! So she called the owner because she wanted me to pay the difference (about $100 mind you) and the owner who was on SPEAKeR PHONE said "what does she want I mean she only paid 60 bucks for it what does she expect it's not gonna be free" OH OK. I am trying to be cordial since I know this woman isn't the owner and don't want to take it out on her. Then I pay the difference- (tackiest business going) and they won't even let me get the massages I paid for I had to just get an hour massage. I hardly ever write reviews but I took the time to create a Yelp account specifically to review this business. Went in for a manicure and pedicure and it is definitely the WORST I've ever gotten. My hands and feet are the same as they were when I walked in for the service, save for the nail polish (see below for comments on that!). All that was done was filing and rubbing some salt scrub and moisturizer in. I could have done that myself at home. Why would I pay $50 for that? Now, to the nail polish. It's been less than 24 hours and they're already chipping. And I haven't even started my day yet. I wish I had gone to my regular place in New Haven that charges the same but does a much better job. The only reason I'm giving one star is for Amy who did my nails. She was great to talk to during the process, even though the process itself was awful. I have been to this spa a handful of times and have enjoyed the facial and eyebrow wearing I have had done. At first, they worked with me to fit me in and I thought this was great. I bought a gift card that was discounted to pay for my future services. Since then I have had two appointments made 6 weeks in advanced, where I was called the day before and told my appointment is now at another time. After an hour of going back and forth, being put on hold for 20 minutes, because I wanted my money refunded from the gift card I purchased, I was called back when I told them I'd be calling the BBB. At that time my 11:30 appointment was available again. I was beyond frustrated, being told I never spoke to the owner when I did, I decided to let them keep my money and NEVER return. DONT DO IT! The owner is completely unprofessional. I bought two of these groupons: One for my boyfriend and one for myself. It was my fault that I didn't read all of the terrible reviews on Yelp before purchasing. I made my appointment first.... First of all- when scheduling my appointment they made me book it about 3 weeks ahead only because that was the only time they could fit me in with a woman maseuse. Once I showed for my appointment they had paired me with male maseuse. Further more, they were about 20 minutes late for my appointment. The owner had told me to help myself to water and motioned to the mason jar in the corner (which was empty). My bf tried to make an appointment several times. First time- there was no answer. Second time- they put him on hold for 15 minutes before he hung up and called back. After he was finally able to make his appointment he had to reschedule because he got sick. The girl at the desk said no problem and gladly rescheduled him... THE OWNER called him back and said she's going to charge him $50 rescheduling fee. After my boyfriend tried to reason with her she said that he should just return our groupon. Real professional lady- Thanks for saving us the trouble. I did exactly that. read more

Woman mentioned to me multiple times the tip wasn't included in the Groupon price (obviously I know this!, even with the terrible service I still tipped her 20%) The lotion and whatever else they used on my face smelled old as well. I tried to re-book for the massage and no one responded to me for my months. When I finally got in touch with someone they said that they were moving which was why no one was in touch with me. I finally got an appointment for a massage a year later, and 5 mins before my appointment at 2 pm, they asked if I could come in for 3 PM! They told me they texted me a confirmation the day before and that they thought I cancelled because I didnt confirm. I thought it was bad karma to write a review after receiving a full refund from Groupon but it needs to be done. The reason for the 1 star is that the massage was excellent, otherwise I'm in full agreement with the reviewer that said she would give this place 0 stars if she could. I should have checked the reviews before purchasing the Groupon, and I didn't. My fault and the experience was anything but positive. I should have known I was in for an adventure when I called to schedule the appointment. The person that answered the phone asked if she could call me back in 15 minutes. 6 hours later I called again and reached Irina, who I now know is the owner. She told me that the number had been written down wrong and recited my number from the caller id. This becomes significant later in the review. She told me that the day was wide open and that was highly unusual for a Saturday. She told me I could have any time I wanted so I chose a time. She then asked me if she could schedule me for another time. Sure, no problem. She was arguing that my certificate didn't include the $40 toward a future visit because she doesn't offer more than $20. Not true. She ultimately agreed to honor the certificate but she is clearly mathematically challenged, as was pointed out by another reviewer. Not only was this not a $400 value, but if I had purchased certificates for the services individually it would have been substantially cheaper than the "pamper package." On the day of my appointment I entered the address in my GPS and there was no option for the address listed on the Groupon. I didn't know if it was N or S so I decided to call. No answer. I left a message that I was going to try north and if I was a few minutes late it was because I was in the wrong place but I would be there and asked for someone to call and confirm the address. No return call . . . yet. When I arrived Irina was on the phone trying to convince someone to book an appointment and totally ignoring me. 2 grim-faced men were walking around the place. She hung up, gave me a very invasive questionnaire and there I sat. That was the first of several times that she informed me that tax and tip were not included. I didn't question it because I am relatively new to Groupon and only after redeeming a couple of other certificates did I realize that this was irregular; more about the tax later. She finally brought me into the relaxation area and the massage therapist came out to get me. Great massage. I was taken into the room and only after receiving my massage was I given a robe, but no locker, so off I go into the relaxation room, carting my clothing, including my bra and underwear. I then waited, and waited, and waited some more, for Irina to give me my facial. A call came in but I didn't recognize the number. When I saw a message I decided to check it. IT WAS IRINA CALLING FROM THE FRONT DESK TO OFFER ME A MASSAGE APPOINTMENT!!! By now I had had it. I called her back, informed her that I had already had my massage and wanted my facial. She had kept me waiting for at least 20 minutes while she trawled through the caller id looking for more business! I told her that I was in the relaxation room and if she turned around she would see me waving to her. Another 10 minutes elapsed and she finally brought me into the facial room. She told me to get undressed and she would be right with me. Eventually she was. When she finally came in she told me that she may need to walk out. She interrupted my facial a total of 3 times, 2 of which she didn't even say anything, she just abruptly left me there. She said my pores were clogged and she was not going to do any extractions. Isn't that when you get a facial? I didn't get any mitts or booties, or any of the massages listed in the menu. After being reminded for the 4th or 5th time that tax and tip were not included I asked if she was the owner and her response was "why"? What kind of response is that? I mentioned that it was my understanding that it is not customary to tip the owner and she said that she would accept a tip. Throughout the facial she asked me things that were on the questionnaire and after asking her for the 4th time if she had actually read the questionnaire she said she likes to read them afterwards to see if she was right in her assessment. Where do I start with how many things are wrong with that?!? I knew I would not be returning and asked if I could use the $40 toward product. She told me yes and immediately said no, Groupon doesn't allow it. Groupon was very interested in that response. She makes the rules and was just trying to shanghai me into another visit. I tipped the massage therapist and paid the "tax" which was approximately triple the State of CT rate. She was getting her tip one way or another. It was easier to just pay it and get the hell out of there than to dispute it. She got me once but NEVER, EVER, EVER again!!! read more

Took 3 months to book (as I think they were trying to push it off until my Groupon expired), the place was gross, the massage was subpar, and everyone I encountered over phone/text/at the place was rude and unprofessional. The greedy and manipulative owner tried to take advantage of me because I look young by trying to make me book out further massages. When I politely declined she continued to push and push. So rude. Took 20 minutes to run my card for the Groupon fee (which is not a real thing and no other place has EVER charged me this), which was $20. I could have spent the total of $70 I spent there ($50 for the Groupon + $20 for the massage) somewhere else and gotten a high quality massage. The OPPOSITE of a relaxing experience. If only one could give 0 stars... In July my husband bought me a Groupon to get a facial and massage done at Cloud 9. I was so excited! I called and scheduled my appointment for September. Apparently they were super booked every weekend and couldn't get me in any sooner...lies. September rolls around and I received no call or email to confirm my appointment. So I called them. Would you know that they were in the process of moving to a new location and were going to have to reschedule my appointment? Good thing I called! They said that they would contact me within 24 hrs. to reschedule the appointment. That same day I receive a long text from them explaining their new move with their new address, etc. etc. So I saved the number to my contacts, just in case, and text back okay, thank you. FOUR days later, I receive a random text asking when I would like the appointment. I texted back a date and time and shocker, no response. Three and a half WEEKS go by, still no response. I called, I texted, I probably should've sent a paper airplane or smoke signal. No response. Thankfully Groupon was kind enough to refund my husband his money. But needless to say, I am no longer interested in receiving any service from them and would not recommend them. read more

Run, run fast away from this so called Day Spa. I bought 2 groupons for my 2 daughters ages 16 and 13. I called and made mani/pedi appointments over 2 weeks beforehand. IRENA took all the Groupon information, names, addresses, birth dates and informed me I needed to sign a consent form. Ok, no problem, I have never needed to sign anything bf for them. Over the phone she tried to upsell me more services and I felt very uncomfortable (get them massages, hot stones too she says) and I said at this time just the nail service. IRENA wasn't happy with that. We went in the place, dirty floors, old 'antique' items decorating the salon (very outdated looking spa) and an off odor. When the nails were done, I gave my girls tip money to give to the technician. Each girl tipped $15 , so $30 total. My girls said the technician was nice and friendly. We Said our goodbyes and went on our way. Irena wasn't in the salon when we were there. When we got home their were 4 missed calls/3 voicemails from IRENA, (still have her voicemails) who said there was a problem with the groupons. I called her immediately and she said I needed to come back to her salon, that the Groupons didn't cover for the services rendered. I explained that they got the mani/pedi that you, Irena, scheduled for them. She then said I needed to give her my credit card number over the phone because we owed taxes and gratuities. I asked why wasn't I told about the taxes when we were in the shop? We had to sign up, get nails done and then tip out, when was someone going to say anything about the taxes? Also they were the worst mani/pedis ever. The nail polish literally came off the nails. The next day 3 of the nails were ruined. My girls have had over 20 mani/pedis and never had this happen before. I went to this spa for an eyebrow and upper lip wax and before I even went into the room the owner told me about the special to purchase a series of three facials. Since after being unemployed and just getting a job I thought I would treat myself. The experience of the eyebrow and lip wax was so bad I never even went back for the facials, 200.00 for nothing, it wasn't worth it. The owner (she did my waxing) kept running out of the room to answer the phone or accept deliveries or sell gift certificates. This is a spa? It is the opposite of relaxing, they "got" me once, a bad experience and the money I spent on the facial package but they won't get me again, how they are still in business is beyond me. read more

Mediocre, at best. I went in for a spa manicure. The owner did the manicure. Before I even get to this part of the review, let me say trying to schedule the damn thing was not easy. Nobody ever answers the phone. You play phone tag several times and if you're lucky, get to talk to someone. Why does a business have a restricted phone number? My phone does not accept them. Weird. Anyway, my spa manicure took an hour and 45 min. Sounds great, right? Not so much. The owner was training someone and would get up literally every few minutes to see what she was doing. Hence 2 hours. Remove polish from a couple fingers, get up. Get up for new washcloths. It never ended. And she did not care about conversation. She wasn't listening to what I was saying. She was too busy keeping an eye on the new gal at the desk. I had a Groupon that I cancelled and will not be back. Sorry, I gave you a chance but it's not worth trying again. Then, I receive a phone call not even 24 hours before my scheduled appointment having to cancel my massage. They did try to accommodate with another service at that time along with a massage the next day, however if this is what I wanted, I would've requested such from the beginning. I can only assume I was treated this way being a groupon customer. Before I even booked the massage, the staff asked if this was a groupon and also asked for my groupon voucher/number which was a first. Just got back from my massage and facial and I am very pleased (admittedly, much more than anticipated.) Initially, I was a bit turned off, as the receptionists were not the friendliest, or most accommodating, and especially unapologetic when they asked me to reschedule my appointment, which I took work off for. The negative reviews also made me nervous, as I too was using a groupon that was a gift. However, Cloud 9 has Chris to thank for it's redemption. Chris was a wonderful and kind massage therapist who made me feel incredibly comfortable and relaxed, despite my initial nerves about receiving a massage from a male. He deserves 10 stars! The esthetician was also wonderful and did a beautiful job. A lot of upselling, (having a retail background, I understand it is part of the job) but also education on proper skin care, which I appreciated. Ultimately, I was persuaded to buy a product, but I look forward to incorporating it into my routine. I would definitely return for another facial and massage. read more

This is by far.....the absolute worst place in the milford area to spend your money. Lady at the front desk, maybe the owner, is a complete cookoo. She over books appointments. I had an appointment at 10 am and she calls at 930 the day of the appointment to reschedule to a time later in the day which didn't work. She got frustrated and proceeded to say how my appointment was at 915 so I'm going to have to pay 50$ off a 3 massage package I purchased unknowing of how incompetent this place is run. I knew my appointment was at 10. Then she calls me back and leaves a voicemail saying she put me in for another appointment later in the week for a day and time that I never agreed to. I tried calling back but she doesn't answer the phones you have to leave a voicemail. That day came and boom, hi your not here for your appointment, we have to charge you another 50$. Hahaha. This place is a joke, it's old inside, lot of junk all over the place and kind of creepy. Please STAY away. Cloud 9 turns to Hell villle First off calling to make an appointment is very painful. The receptionist put me on hold 4 times and asked me the same questions over n over she sounded high. I finally got the appointment I wanted and when I got there Brook ask my name and then the same questions again. she had a hickey on her neck real professional! Then after that grueling episode I got my pedicure from the best esthetician ever!!!! Amy. Unfortunately, the room is 3 feet from the reception area. so you can hear all the private conversations and everyone who comes in. the pedicure starts with a broken pedicure lounge and while sanitary, you stick your feet in an electric foot bath with a plastic liner...I just laughed cuz really? no jets no pretty smelly stuff and plastic feels odd. Because the lady Amy was so informative and thorough and on point as best she could b with what she had there ..I let it slide.WELL! in comes miss Brook the receptionist interrupting the massage part of the pedicure. Not just once, but 4 times asking Amy what to do about this that and the third. Finally the facial of love with Amy and it was great. however this Brook who was falling asleep while she stood knocked on the door like really loud and Amy opened it . she said sorry. . theres much more but why bother. The bottom line is when you spend that much money, and the place claims to be upscale. Its a big disappointment when your services stress you out more than make you feel fabulous. If this girl Amy had her own place I would be her client for life! I asked her for her home # but she was loyal. cant blame her for that. my pedicure and facial were superior . Less money on security cameras and more attention to the clients serenity. a door and a working foot spa . and a rehab for brook. I give the spa a thumbs down and Amy 6 thumbs up read more

UPDATE: They were supposed to fully refund me for our services since their employee did not show up on the day of our appointment. They actually only refunded me $30 of the $177 total they charged me! I called them about this and they still have NOT resolved this. THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD FOR A SPA PEDICURE!!! The massaging chair, was completely broken and or never hooked up to plumbing. The individual placed a wash basin into the tub area and did not have me "soak my feet to soften dead skin. I have an auto immune disease causing excessive dryness for me, the individual continually complained about how dry my feet were and never used oils or products to make the experience positive, only made me feel horrible about a condition I have no control over. This service was to include a "hot stone" massage, I never saw hot stones!!! There was no massage period. The complete experience was so horrible, my feet looked dry and scaly as if I had just walked in for service. I took pictures and will be happy to share these to validate my dissatisfaction. The customer service and care I received was non-existent. when I complained about the lack of service I was dismissed and scorned by the owner with a snide comment about using a gift certificate. My boss had provided this gift for appreciation to multiple employees, unfortunately it was a horrific experience that I had to go pay another salon to provide a respectable pedicure. I do NOT recommend this spa for any services!!! read more

I had a bad experience a few years ago but when I received a $50 off email for my birthday I figured I'd see if they had gotten any better, what a waste of my money! First off my appointment was at 11am I arrived at 1045 to find the door locked and the lights off. Confused I tried to call( FYI they never answer their phone) only to be called back five mins later to see "if I forgot about my appointment". I told her NOPE the door was locked and was like omg I'm so sorry come one over now. Expecting to be greeted with an apology I sat in their tacky waiting room for almost 5 mins until the massage therapist came out and laughed about not being able to find her shoes(like wtf?!). As we get into the room she had me sit in the corner while she complained about how the person on the previous night didn't do his job and now she had to change the sheets(like really?!). So I get undressed and the room is DEAD quiet as she says the internet is down and they don't have music. But don't worry about five mins in she turned the fan on because she said she was going through menopause like seriously lady (it was 30 degrees outside). She proceeded to tell me about her kids, her divorce, her haircut all while I CLEARLY did not want to have a conversation during my massage. HORRIBLE I would never ever recommend this place even if they were giving out free massages. read more

Worst Spa Ever!!!! Don't waste your time or money. All the bad reviews are spot on correct. The owner, Irena, is rude, confrontational, paranoid and totally unprofessional. She forgets people have a choice and can go elsewhere. All of her products are expired. The "laundry detergent" she uses is so watered down that isn't able to clean the sheets properly which makes the laundry in the dryer emanate a disgusting smell. She has a high turn over rate because she doesn't pay her staff (one she owes several paychecks) and she threatens them and creates a stressful environment. She should not run a spa (or any business for that matter) a spa is suppose to be relaxing and it can't be if the staff is stressed and mistreated. I ant see this spa lasting much longer given the number of reviews here. The owner also has some of her previous staff on here giving positive reviews, including herself "Ellie E". What a joke. Ps I have been a witness to the treatment of staff and clients so I know what I'm talking about. read more
