My wife and I had a 1.5 hour deep tissue massage here and I can say it's the best so far in comparison to so many massage place I've been to. It relieved my upper back and shoulder pain. I feel bad for the therapist though because I'm a big guy but she didn't hold back and I felt relieved afterwards. Mine was hard deep tissue but you can tell them to make it moderate or light. The only thing is, they don't understand English, just some key words. But they also have their phone for translation. Overall they did the job and exceeded my expectations. read more

I had an appointment on Sunday, November 3rd at Hamden Spa. I walked in with a limp and left without one. My masseuse was Judy and I was given a deep tissue massage. Judy worked very hard to get all the knots from my neck, shoulder, back, etc. It's Tuesday, November 5th and I can now stand up from a seated position without the discomfort in my left knee. The welcome was nice and the room was ready. 1st turn off: extra funds for oils; when refused, it was pushed, said OK and then told we couldn't keep the bottle that I was now purchasing. 2nd turn off: Massage was nice, however the woman would not stop talking to my partner for the first 20 minutes, trying to make jokes and when he stopped responding she began to talk to the other massage tech. Tad disruptive. 3rd turn off: 1/2 way into massages the door open, both of us are de-draped, and we hear other persons walking up and down the hall, not once, but twice. 4th turn off: 3/4 into my massage tech seemed to lose their touch, my legs were being tossed around and man handled. Massage is for relaxation and de-stressing; seemed very rough and careless, like their was agitation, from techs conversation. 5th turn off : At check out the attendant pushed me to pay more in tips and when we didn't have any cash, it felt like he would not let us leave until we tip to his liking adding another charge to my card. Not for nothing; it's my time to relax, not be haggled for money while laying indisposed on the table or freshly out of the door. Was charged more after services, then told on the phone. Finally found a legit massage place near me! Anna was my massage therapist today and she was very skilled! Made sure the strength was suited to my liking and she was very thorough. I am a nurse and I suffer from achy joints from walking all day and bad body mechanics lifting patients. I feel so much better after today's massage and I made sure to tip her well, well-deserved! I was reading some of the bad comments saying that they were touched "inappropriately" cause their ass cheeks were massaged. Come on, grow up???Those are your glutes muscles and a lot of back pain stems from your glutes and if you didn't want it I'm sure you could have told your massage therapist and they will be more than happy to massage you less. I have been coming here for a few months now and I must say they give the best massage. I never ask for a certain massage therapist and have never been disappointed. Each one has some differences from other therapists which makes it feel that much better. Love the use of hot stones and warm towels. And to address other reviews saying they were asked for a certain tip, I have never been asked in the many times I have been there. I will continue to get my massages every two weeks. We just moved to CT a few months ago and I am so excited to have found my go-to massage place! Hamden Spa Palace was able to book me a same week appointment via text (very handy as I hate calling). I got the 90 minute Chinese (deep tissue) massage which was a great value at $85. The therapist applied hard, consistent pressure and really dug into my knots. I feel so tenderized and de-stressed. The place was very clean and COVID-friendly. I am docking one star for noise. The table next to me was very creaky and SO loud that it was very distracting. People came in, having conversations at normal volume (one guy even had a phone conversation). I had a hard time zoning in to my own massage and fully relaxing. I think this is easily fixable - repair/replace the rickety table, add a "Quiet please. Services in session." sign in the lobby so that people whisper and add a speaker in each room so that it muffles the sounds from other rooms (instead of overhead speakers). This place was rather interesting to say the least. I went in for a couples massage with my girlfriend, 60 minutes. I felt violated by the end of those 60 minutes. She literally took my underwear OFF. I've never gotten a massage where the masseuse climbs on top of you and uses their body to rock back and forth in applying pressure. It was just very bizarre. I was wearing boxer briefs and she told me to take them off because they were getting in the way??? And I was very hesitant to take them off and didn't initiate pulling them off. She told me to prop my back side up and then she slid them off!!!!!! There was just a lot of odd techniques being used and it felt a little bit TOO intimate for my liking. Not what I expected whatsoever. Girlfriend had a similar experience as well. She quotes, "they were in my a**cheeks!!!" I wish I was making this up. OH, and after this whole ordeal, the guy in the front tried to peer pressure us into leaving more of a tip than the generous one we had to offer given the experience. That was super sketchy, definitely uncomfortable. If that's what you're in to, this is the place for you. If you'd like to leave with a sense of dignity still, definitely go elsewhere. read more

The business in their website advertise many massages and mention Thai massage. I desired Thai massage, but didn't offered it when I called. I decided to book anyway because deep tissues was offered. The environment and massage therapist was professional. The place was clean and nice. However, I will not book this place ever again. The reason is because the establishment doesn't use credit card reader but the front desk demanded I use Cashapp or Zelle. I didn't have cashapp and I already had Zelle. The cost of the service was $90 but $10 charge for massage oil. The establishment charge $10 was use of essential oil. The bill came to $100.00 dollars and I included a $10 dollar tip. However the front desk wanted a additional tip and I didn't like this. It seems more massage establishments are demanding more tips when when there is already a tip included. There is a trend and I'm in the process of reporting this to the BBB. This establishment should not be supported because when a tip is already included and the front desk demand additional tip it's disrespectful and the business want to save on merchant fees which wants to use Zelle or Cashapp from the customer. This business model sounds cheap and poor. I will go to a regular business that use a merchant account and supports tips not demanding additional tips. Don't go to this place until it's reported they will not charge for oil, will not use Cashapp or Zelle and appreciate any tips even if it's 18%. Also, false advertisement that doesn't feature Thai massage. The front desk told me Thai Massage is in the west coast like San Francisco because there are more Thai people than over here. After discussing with the front desk I left and I will never return. So I suggest people don't get fool but this establishment. Support a more honest and professional massage place. When more people don't support their bad business models than they will be forced to change and improve. read more

Decent massages at very good prices. Just know it's not a high end spa or even a massage envy-like environment. It's an Asian-run but legitimate massage business, clean and relaxing environment. However prices are nearly half what a higher end spa would charge and you'll leave feeling better than when you came in. I've found through experience that some of the best massages I've had have been Chinese style. They know why they're doing and really get the kinks and knots out. Second time here. The first time was about 2 yrs ago (also 0-1 star). This time was WORSE!!! As a business owner I do not like to leave negative reviews because 'things happen' but this place, their unprofessionalism, and lack of skill was and is unacceptable! They (yes "they") switched massage therapists in the middle of a session from a lady to "Paul". Then, a woman kept coming into the room to put her hoodie jacket on wall hook. Then she came back into the room to go in her hoodie pockets 2 more times all while having a conversation with the "leg rub guy" as he was working on me. WTF! Then you can hear the other massage therapist Singing in the other room. Then I had to take 3 minutes to tell the man / explain via sign language to go put gloves on because his rough hands were scratching me despite the 5 inch layer of massage cream that he kept slathering on, which made it difficult to feel anything as he could not apply pressure appropriately. I felt NOTHING and I could not bare to stay there for 60 minutes or any minute longer. He then went to get Hot stones to end the session and he put the hot stones straight from the warmer directly on my skin. He should have known that it was too hot for my skin since he could not hold it in his bare hands for more than three seconds. They heard me complaining and having issues with the language barrier the entire session and no one came to assist the man or to see what the issue was with their customer. I went to the front desk to explain why I had no intentions of paying for the 60 minute session and he knew how to tell me that I was there for a half hour so had to pay for a half hour. I told them that I was there for reflexology and I did not receive reflexology; Only a 15 minute repetitive same meridian leg rub and skin burn from the hot stones that every certified or licensed trained therapist knows how to temper first prior to putting directly on the skin. You're not supposed to leave a wellness place feeling off centered and crappy. My energy was totally 'off'. This place is about money, not about health or wellness or even simply relaxation. Unfortunate that my massage therapist sounded very sick. He had to stop mid massage to blow his nose and apologized. I asked him if he was sick and he responded with no. He was sniffling and coughing, breathing heavily while massaging, and even coughed on me once. I felt very uncomfortable. When I tried to explain to the man at the front desk that I think my therapist is sick he responded by saying that he's been working for them for two years. I don't think he really understood what I was trying to say.. when you consider the fact that there's a global viral outbreak, having a sick massage therapist becomes very disconcerting. I won't be coming back here for this reason. I'm giving 2 stars because the massage was ok. On a Side note: My face was massaged with no lotion, very uncomfortable. its hard to relax when the person rubbing your body is sick, makes one wonder about their standard of sanitation. read more

This was the worst massage experience ever. I came with my mom to relax after driving from out of state. While it looked like the place was newly renovated with nice decor at the reception area, don't be fooled. This place is low class and nothing compared to a real normal spa. This is a chinese run facility. Except for 1, the other woman had no abiltity to understand English either. I tried to tell her to take it easy and be gentle but she kept punching my body and was extremely rough. I felt threatened by this experience I was pulling away. They used very little lotion and more of water downed version. When she massaged my face, there was no lotion at all. Horrible experience! Foot massage was frightening when she started slapping and punching my feet like I was 500 lbs. This rough manhandling is their Chinese technique of torture. If you'd like to be tortured, this is the place I recommend. Definitely, a huge massage FAIL ! This place is going down because they kept saying my mom needs more massages to gain repeat business. TOO desperate! My mom is suffering from arthritis and she warned her several times but Eva was not listening or has little English comprehension. Overall, I told them how angry and disappointed I was. The Chineses ladies were extremely rough and hurt me and my mom. They do not deserve to be doing this type of business. They skimped on their lotions and rubbed our skin with very hot towels that nearly burned our skins off.. We kept pulling away. Their excuse was they could not understand English. Believe me, they not only are incapable of communicating in English but are dangerously pretending to be massagers. This place needs their license revoked for being a quack massage place. The experience has a traumatizing effect equivalent of torture. First time I've ever walked out of a place angry and tipped them zero dollars and a tip to get a real massage education. read more

From reading the other reviews, I thought that this would be like one of those places on Grand Street in Manhattan's Chinatown, so I was pleasantly surprised. The place is minimalist but clean. I got one hour of bodywork, and my masseuse was able to get out the major knots from my shoulders and back. The walls between rooms don't go all the way up to the ceiling, so if you can't block out background noise, this place isn't for you. The massages, however, are a great deal for the area. They also have a loyalty card that gives you one free massage after 10. I'm definitely planning to make use of it! read more
