Where do I begin? This is going to be very useful for anyone seeking the best in class Diamond Certified grandfather clock repair and restoration. Look no further Raymond of Clock World is simply awesome!!! Look, like many of you who have grandfather clocks I called around the entire Bay Area in search of someone who could repair my clock at a reasonable price while offering the best in class service and expertise. Clock World satisfied the entire criteria.
I recently purchased a used 1987 McGovern Grandfather Clock from a consignment shop in Marin County that sounded absolutely wonderful in the shop. The chimes were deep and rich in quality and sound, the housing featured a rich mint new conditioned Mahogany Wood finish and I knew for the price I had to have it!! Now like many grandfather clocks that are moved or get transported to a different location, no matter how hard the movers try to remove and secure the moving parts, the clock fails to chime as originally seen and heard. Of course I was devastated but Googled the symptoms and knew the problem was common under these circumstances. I reluctantly settled into the reality of my purchase and immediately went to work trying to restore this clock to its original brand new condition.
At first I randomly searched on line for hours for Grandfather Clock Repair Services before looking for "Diamond Certified" Dealerships and Repair Centers (much like when you need service for a Rolex Watch). My search identified only 3 in the Bay Area (Clock World being one of them). Raymond not only had the best price (almost half the cost of the other dealerships), he also offered (now check this out) to not only come to my house in Marin County but also remove the parts and bring them to his shop in San Francisco. All the other dealerships refused to come to my house to pick up the parts and asked that I personally remove the parts, with my limited to no knowledge of doing this, and bring the parts to their shop. After hearing what Raymond would do I personally paid a visit to his shop in San Francisco in which I was totally impressed seeing the wide variety of clocks in his shop including those that looked like mine. After exchanging many polite bows of respect with Raymond, as is often done in the Asian culture, I made an appointment for Raymond to pick up the parts immediately from my house in Marin.
OK now get this. Not only did Raymond offer to come to my house to pick up the parts, he also promised to.....now get this......deliver and install the parts once the repair was completed so that you can personally witness the successful reinstall of the equipment and operation of the clock!!! Can you believe this at half the price of the other vendors? The other vendors explained once the clock was repaired I would have to go to their shop to retrieved the fixed and restored parts and install the parts myself with no supervision or guarantee the parts would work once installed. I made an appointment for Raymond to meet me at my house in which he installed the parts while I enjoyed watching TV and having a nice meal. Of course I offered Raymond a meal but he declined indicating his focus was to install the repaired parts and get back to his bride in San Francisco.
OK this is the last thing and I'll shut up. All the competing vendors offered a warranty of 3 years while Raymond, so confident in his workmanship, offered a warranty of 7 years confidently suggesting I would more than likely not need to see him for at least 10 years out. The other vendors were also recommending I return the parts for servicing every 3 years (at a cost of approximately $300) where Raymond confidently proclaimed he'll see me in 10. It's been at least 6 months now and the clock keeps very accurate time and the chimes sound rich and wonderful like a brand new clock!! In case you're asked and want to compare to market this service was considered a total overhaul of the parts vs. some minor tune up. The entire mechanics of the clock were totally taken apart, cleaned, oiled and reassembled.
There you have it. I hope this saves everyone reading this a lot of shopping around as I did and have the same experience as I did. Raymond is awesome and really dedicated to his craft as you'll see when you meet him and look around his shop. You can tell he takes pride in his work and customer service. Really, you just don't see this kind of workmanship and customer service anymore.
Thanks Raymond!!
See you in 10 years!!
