If you are looking for the most experienced and knowledgeable clock repair man in the city of Houston, Steve Woodruff at Clock Country is the man to see. I bought an 1830 French Clock from an antique dealer in Italy about 2 1/2 years ago. It was shipped to Houston via UPS. After I brought the box in the house and opened it I found the clock had been poorly packaged and the back glass was shattered and interspersed with the gears of the clock such that it wouldn't work. UPS said their shipping insurance only covers boxes opened in the presence of their UPS driver, not after you take the boxinto your home, even though I emailed UPS immediately the same day after opening the package and finding my broken clock. I researched clock repair shops in Houston and took the clock to Steve Woodward at Clock Country. Steve quickly partially disassembled the clock in front of me and recommended a complete cleaning and replacement of the broken back glass. After numerous disassemblies and reassemblies of the clock and checking it's time, Steve discovered that the large gear on the 4th wheel of the clock was very slightly bent, causing the clock to stop each time a few days after rewinding. Fortunately, Steve is tenacious and likes a challenge. He said we wanted to keep working on the clock until he got it running property. He succeeded and I picked up my clock just recently after almost 2 3/4 years. Thank you Steve ! read more

Steve is absolutely wonderful!! I have a German grandfather clock that I inherited from my grandparents and Steve was able to get it back up and running! I was a little taken back on the price ($800) but it was well worth it to have it stay in the family. And it's not like everyone has the knowledge on these antiques. I brought in a baby grandfather wall clock that my dad bought while stationed in during the Korean War for service. I did not know that walk ins only by appointment. Fortunately for me, the house call that the technician was supposed to be on was canceled that day. By looking at the clock, the technician had an idea of how old the clock was, as well as its origin. The clock issues were minor enough for him to repair it while I waited, and the cost was minimal. I have an old German Depression Era clock that was in need of repair. I finally got the nerve to take it off the wall and have it looked at. I took it into Clock Country and had Steve look at it. Steve starts taking it apart piece by piece. As he does he is giving me complete history on the clock and each part he is taking out. Meanwhile I am wondering if he can put it back together. Looking around his shop I see all these beautiful vintage clocks for repair. Mine is by far the least expensive in the place. I am not worried. Now that he has about half the clock apart in about 5 minutes he starts pointing out all the things that are wrong. He gives me detailed information on what needs to be done. Steve tells me it will be a while and I realize that you can't rush this stuff; after all the clock has been needing repairs for 25 years and I was in no rush. I get the call to pick up my baby. Yes, that is what it feels like. I take it home, put it back on the wall and wind it. "Set it and forget it" . Clock is running perfect. read more
