The two owners have been in the business of clock repairs and sales since 1965, and each of their staff has been with them for years. I went in to find my grandson a playful child's cuckoo clock, and their selection is incredible. Upon making my selection, I found myself wanting to know all about the various new and antique grandfather clocks they were selling.  I felt like I got a history lesson just listening to them tell me the stories of some of the clocks. Amazing! I asked to see the repair shop, and we went back to their building where they repair everything from watches to grandfather clocks. In this amazing space artisans were quietly bent over, each at their own work space bringing life back to the timepieces that they were repairing. I can't say enough about this rare treasure that we have in Houston. They are my go to now when I am looking for a gift for that person who has everything. I can always find that unique gift at Chappell Jordan. Don't miss visiting them.

The clock's movement hadn't been serviced in over 116 years according to the 2 November 1910 inscription on the pendulum bracket by its previous servicer. Also, the clock's marble base was missing most of the Roman numerals that were formerly attached to it to serve as the dial. Bernie Maya of Chappell Jordan completely cleaned and serviced the movement and bell such that the clock mechanism now looks brand new and the clock runs like new. Bernie also polished the marble and installed new Roman numerals for the dial on the clocks marble block. What a magnificent job ! Chappell Jordan hit it out of the ballpark again !

The crown had fallen off, and there were some additional issues that needed to be addressed. The total repair was around $800. This particular watch is important to me. I bought a new watch when each of my children was born, and this is one of those watches. I purchased it new, still have all the documentation, and have owned it for years. So it has considerably more sentimental value to me than just being a Rolex. The shop itself was professional and communicative. They called me back, kept me informed, and the overall service experience was good. I've dealt with other watch shops that felt inconsistent or even a little sketchy, and I never got that feeling here. Where I'm disappointed is the actual outcome. They weren't able to replace everything with genuine Rolex parts, which I would have strongly preferred, and more importantly, after the repair I was told the watch is no longer water resistant to the point where I should swim with it. That's a pretty significant downside for me. After spending roughly $800 repairing a Rolex, I didn't expect to end up with a watch that I now have to remember to take off before getting into a pool. It changes how freely I can wear a watch that I've worn and enjoyed for years. In hindsight, I probably should have sent it directly to Rolex, particularly given the sentimental value. I may still get a second opinion, although I've already spent the $800. So this is a difficult one. The shop provided good service, communicated well, and I don't have anything negative to say about how I was treated. I'm just disappointed that such an expensive repair left me with a watch that has an important limitation it didn't have before. Four stars for the shop and the service, but probably closer to three stars for how I feel about the end result.
