Paperchase was a delightful store, filled with interesting things, from a collection of mini erasers, shaped in so many different styles. Pens of every color and style, pencils with crowns at the tops, and of course the greeting card collections. You could pick up moleskien note books if that's your personal fetish (I know a few who love them) And apparently there's an upstairs that I didn't get a chance to visit, but next time, and there will be a next time.

The exceptionally helpful and engaging staff. The best range of greeting cards I've ever had to choose from - seriously g's birthday card buying took hours. The amazing selection of everything, I didn't even know I needed a panda rubber (eraser) until I brought him home. Or could it be the amazing multicoloured disco floor that makes me want to don a white suit and channel John Travolta - I'm going to be John Travolta partially because I can't remember the female characters name but more because I hated her dress and would look way better in a white flared suit! I loved Paperchase when it was a wee section of Borders bookshop. I mourned for its loss when Borders disappeared from Buchanan Street and Glasgow Fort. But there are not enough words for me to convey the strength of my passion for this muckle shine to all that is stationery. Oh and the fact that buying stationery is never going to make me regret eating cake with mean and nasty changing room mirrors is purely coincidental.

The range…read moreof stuff they carry is bizarre and hugely extensive - everything from kitchen spices to craft jewellery supplies by way of vinyl records (!), kid's toys and executive desk knick-knacks. All (well, most) nicely packaged in that inimitable Swedish minimalist style and very competitively priced. Which is the whole marketing plan, I guess. It certainly works as we were passing and just popped in for a quick look and of course ended up spending about 20 quid! Favourite buy - a Hallowe'en cat head with colour changing eyes and an LED multicoloured light bulb with rotating prism lens - instant disco ball in your living room! If you're looking for cheap and unusual toys for children, it's definitely worth checking out Flying Tiger. Even if your children are well over 40. :)

Now I love Tiger and I'm not totally sure why this is called Flying Tiger but it's pretty much the same as every other Tiger I've been to - cheap homewares/stationery kind of stuff which is really cute. This time I didn't actually buy anything (how's that for self restraint) but I'm sure I'll be back as I love their stationery and they had some really nice glassware too.

Full of fairly unusual and sweet presents for most occasions - such as special birthdays, weddings and new babies - it can be great to pick up that special gift although occassionally the stock disappoints me. What I love the most is the card selection - perfect when searching for a slightly more unusual card. Also be prepared to pay for its location - as you'd imagine in Princes Square it can be pretty expensive.

Sure, this place has tonnes of cards but they're actual good cards that you'd want to give to your best friend, not just boring, dull and uninteresting cards. I even snorted at one or two of them (both of which I purchased). In addition to cards they sell a small range of gifts which - again - are actually decent. They have the Happy Jackson range which I think most people would like (especially me) as well as some nice other bits & pieces. The staff member on duty wasn't the chirpiest person on the planet but I'll forgive her as the shop was pretty good. I'll be back.

Anyway, I was on the hunt for a particular 'Glasgow Patter' tea towel and was guided here by my online personal shopper Briony (that's Yelp for you!). Sadly, they only had a Scots patter one, not the Weegie version, so my search continued. But it looks like a nice wee store if you're looking for a gift or greetings cards. It's easy to walk past though as it is in a basement. (Didn't this used to be 23rd Precinct?)

By the time I had reached the till I had already decided this was going to be a five star review but then the wonderful staff at the till tried to help me lug the buggy up the stairs. I say tried because I may have been using the handy basket at the bottom of the buggy to hide all the books bought in Waterstones, meaning that the buggy weighed more than a family hatchback and actually couldn't be lifted even by two people and Puff just had to suck up bumped up the stairs. A great wee shop that I'll probably be back in again before Christmas. If only because I need some of the amazing Christmas cards with huge Rudolph noses and really my tree isn't going to be finished until I have a rocket decoration hanging from it. The shop is bright and appealing, and has heaps of vibrant stock to lure you in. Once I was in, I was a little confused. Where was everything good? The stock seemed to be a lot of stuff aimed at young kid - rubbers, puzzle balls, some crafty stuff, pens/pencils and brightly coloured paperclips. I just couldn't really see anything that useful that I thought "I need this!' To be honest, I found this store disappointing as it seemed to be a big store initially, but then the actual stock was just a lot of the same stuff. I think to be a really good stationery store you need to carry a much bigger range - notepads, cards to start, possibly diaries, wrapping paper as well. To top off the experience, the shop assistant was actually sitting at the til with her head in her hands, and wasn't greeting customers. She looked how I felt after 3 minutes in here. All in all, a pretty depressing experience for what could have been a great shop.

The cards are also really well set out so you shouldn't find it at all difficult to find a card for anything from your aunt's birthday to your colleague's new job to your dog's recent trip to the dentist. Also worth noting is the very large selection of gift bags, including a gift bag printed with pretty much every major age from 1 to 100. They're also all very reasonably priced, so definitely worth a look if you're after something specific. Rosslyn Cards also sell personalised banners for every occasion - for as little as £8.99.
