What I do know is that the stems part of this Southside…read moreinstitution stocks lots of nice, colourful ones and has them set them out in a regimented manner which suggests the owners know the difference between a flower and a weed. They're one step ahead of me then. However, it was the stalks section which most appealed to me. With a fantastic range of fruit and veg, this place is a more modern take on Roots and Fruits, its West End equivalent, with less of the achingly-hip contrived hippy vibe. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the music is upbeat and lively, adding to the unpretentious atmosphere, while the produce is reasonably priced and as fresh as it possibly can be. I particularly recommend checking out the wide range of fruit juices they have on offer. All this and not a dreadlock in sight.

There were two members of staff on duty, one was busy with a customer (presumably the owner), the other was not. I tried in vain to get the attention of the non-occupied person to no avail, and stood. And stood. And stood. I eventually left 10 mins later and bought my buttonhole flower from the much friendlier and cheaper (£3.50 compared to £5) florist on Minard Rd. Manners cost nothing, a "i'll be with you in 5 minutes, take a seat" o something similar was all it would have took. Instead I was treated like nothing. Utterly ignorant, and shameful. I will NEVER buy anything ftom this place again. Avoid if you value good customer service.

The shop itself is bright and cheering making a great impression from the outside and more generally brightening up a - potentially - rather dull main road. Inside, the bright and cheery vibe continues due to the well presented stock and well laid out shop as well as friendly staff, up for an afternoon chat. Meanwhile, you'll find a good range of pretty cards, candles, ornaments and the like. The products in here are pretty, well made/good quality and are just that little bit different for the bulk building department store stock you can find in town. However, the prices can be, for some items, a little bit too much. Though, on the whole if you're buying something out of here it's because you really like it or are buying for someone pretty special. So, in my experience these circumstances usually mean you don't mind spending a few extra pennies.

This place is really near my house so has been a lifesaver if I've forgotten to buy a gift for someone. I bought a little teddy bear for my mum last Christmas from here and he was a steal at £13! I'd already got her a few other things so he was just a little extra. They had a few other teddies too so it took me a while to decide but thankfully she loved the one I'd chosen. The shop assistant was really helpful and just let me browse at my leisure without making me feel pressured into buying anything. As Laura has mentioned, it can be quite pricey and I saw a handmade card for £6 which I think is pretty ridiculous for a card. I guess that gift shops are always pricier for cards but I'd rather spend more money on a gift than a card. This place is definitely worth a look if you need a small minding for someone.
