I've used Mandors for my curtains for the last 8 years. Unfortunately, since changing ownership it's not the business it once was. The new owner, Razia Monnoo, is based in Pakistan I believe, and seems to take little interest in the business or in feedback from regular customers. I have bedroom curtains made by Mandors that are bad frayed. I was told that Atina, the head machinist in the workroom, agreed to repair these only if I had them dry-cleaned first, as she suffers from a mysterious allergy. After getting the curtains dry-cleaned at my own expense, Neelam and Atina then changed their minds and refused to repair them, citing 'COVID protocols'. Mandors refused to cover the costs I had incurred. When I asked how to make a complaint I was told there was no official complaints policy and it was only after many calls and emails that I was given the email address of the manager, who seems to dislike being bothered by customers. The complaint could have been resolved if I was offered a refund for the costs of my dry cleaning bill - costs which I had incurred at their request - but this didn't occur to Razia Monnoo. It seems odd that she would be prepared to lose a regular customer and receive poor public reviews rather than offer a refund for a relatively small amount. It seems a very strange business strategy! Decent fabric stores in Glasgow are few and far between, but thankfully, Mandor's helps here. I often go here for help with fancy dress ideas - the staff are amazing! I can think of 4 separate occassions in which they have either given me an idea, or they've helped me choose fabric to complete my own idea, the most recent being red material for a wonderwoman costume cape (not because I just felt like dressing up, I was actually going to a 'Heroes and Villians' party... honest). The lady who helped me (Susan, possibly?) even showed me how to properly seam the edges without having to sew anything as I am particularly crap at that part. She was a great help. The material didn't even cost that much - under £10 for 3 metres of heavy duty, high quality material. And do you know what? The cape survived and looked awesome. It still does. read more

I've got a secret love for Mandors. Every time I go in, I get the urge to make something. Though I've never been good at sewing, Mandors makes it all look so easy! They're re-arranging it, yet again, and looks to have widened their selection of curtains. This is probably due to their partnership with an interior decorating firm. It annoys me a bit to have to walk through all the curtain stuff to get to the really good stuff, but I'll survive. The staff there are very friendly. Every time I've had the need to speak to one of them, they've always been helpful. I wonder if you have to have extensive experience just to work there? Seems like it. At any rate, I get expert advice for free, so I'm not gonna complain. One of the things I love is that Mandors has finally added a knitting department. While it's in a tiny corner and only two different brands of yarn (though extensive collections), it's getting a bit better, and they have bamboo needles, which, in my opinion, are the only way to knit. Their wool is dear, though. One skein for £6? Really? I'll keep going to my other knitting shops for the wool, but definitely going to Mandors for the needles and accessories. read more

You can spend forever in here like I did getting to look at all the gorgeous fabric choices trying to make up your mind, since I wanted to buy everything. Very good selection but just beware some are very pricey! Don't be put off by this though, as the other 75% or so are all well priced, and they have a great mark down section with some amazing deals, as well as scrap bins that can really come in handy for small projects. Its just that mixed in are some high price selections that you might gloss over without realising like I did haha! I got a little distracted with the awesome selection and saw so many great prices that I didn't realise the one fabric I got while it was only about £5 a meter, the other one was £27 a meter! I didn't realise this till it was cut and priced. I will pay better attention next time. I was not put off by this though, as it was my own fault. I will for sure be going back here again as they have some very cute stuff like this pink unicorn fabric I got to line a purse I knit! Only thing I wasn't impressed with, is I also went in for yarn as well. While they do have some, the selection is limited and pricey in my opinion. But that was my only real gripe. read more

If you're looking for a great fabric shop and haberdashery, then look no further. Mandors is pretty much the definitive fabric shop in Glasgow - and once you've made a trip here everywhere else seems to kind of fade in comparison. It's just, well, huge. There are sections for just about every fabric need. Curtain making section complete with curtain making service? Check. Haberdashery section? Check. Dress making section? Check. Remnants section? Check. Pattern section? Check. Knitting section? Check. See? This place is pretty hard to beat. In fact, I'm looking for some kind of fault to point out to make this a more balanced review, but rack my brain as I might.. I'm just can't think of anything. The quality is amazing, they have a large number of staff to help you out, they have hundreds of cute little touches that have to be seen to be believed, and the place is always buzzing. From Grannys to fashion students - this place appeals to all. Plus, in here you get a level of service that seems to have been forgotten by most other stores. In fact, yesterday when I popped in to buy some Dylan fabric dye (Bahama Blue - it's ace), I had a great example of this. After I'd handed my card over and pressed a couple of buttons, the lady in question handed me back my card and my receipt with the words "Thank you, Miss Anderson." Just to clear up any issues, this is actually my name, and although she'd just read it off my card it was a really nice touch. Old fashioned courtesy at its best. read more

Oh, I could spend a lot of money in here. A whole load of cash. I first discovered Mandors through some crafting friends; I was looking for some remnants for a christmas crafting project. Mandors' offcuts bin is generally rather well stocked; they've got a great selection of fabric too, which helps. Ten minutes of sitting on the floor raking through the weird, wonderful and downright useful left me with way more fabric than I'd necessarily need... but oooooh. shiny. (and furry, and leathery, and AWESOME.) Now that I'm learning to do a little more when it comes to sewing, it's a godsend of a place. My other half bought me dressmaking lessons for xmas so I'm currently heading along on a Saturday afternoon for 6 weeks to get expert help in being a bit more accurate, how to read patterns, how to put zips in etc. There are a range of classes, held in a wee space at the back of the pattern bar / bridal fabric section - well worth a look! Choosing a pattern? Head to the pattern bar, and the very knowledgeable staff will help you pick not only the right size, but help you figure out what bits & pieces you're likely to need. I love love love Mandors! Having recenty bought a new sewing machine, I made it my mission to check out every fabric store I can find in Glasgow. I would say Mandors is the best I found! Their selection of fabric, with all the types and materials you could need, is great! I spent about two hours in there last week, when I only intended to go in to buy a zipper and some interfacing. I ended up leaving with about £50 worth of goodies. The only downside is that the prices aren't that cheap, though compared to other fabric stores in the city it's in the same price range. Great store, great variety of fabrics as well as haberdashery supplies! read more

There's two parts to Mandors - as Darryl says, the dress making part, which is so all-encompassing that other Haberdasheries pale in comparison, and the curtains part. In the latter you'll find a huge array of materials in enormous sizes - suitable for more than just curtains, as I've gone browsing there for ideas for re-upholstering sofas. They have a very good range of prices, catering to all pocket sizes, so you can pick up some affordable material as well as having the possibility of splashing out on some sensational designer textiles. The button section in the haberdashery has also come in handy, as it is HUGE! And perfect for making models, or so my product design friends have told me. read more

I first came across Mandors after being recommended by my art teacher at school when I was (attempting) to make my very own bag as part of my design porject. Fancying myself as quite the designer at the time, entering Mandors I was quite the child in the sweetie shop. The choice is excellent here - if you're into this sorta thing you won't find much better - and it still manages to inspire my creative self. There is also a haberdashery part for all your making needs. To top it all, the staff are lovely. Helpful if you need help but not overbearing. I'd say the shop has at least double the fabric selection of anywhere else in town. My most recent visit was in search of fabric for my Halloween costume and I felt like a kid in a candy store. I already knew what I needed but I couldn't help but be tempted by the huge variety of different Halloween themed fabrics on display. So many faux furs, so many shiny ghost, spiderweb and witch patterns, so many colours of netting! Reining myself in I went in search of the red gingham I needed and was pleased to find I had 3 different sizes of check to choose from. Fabric selected, I needed pick up a few other things as well and Mandors has a fantastic haberdashery section containing everything you'll need to go along with your crafting: buttons, threads, ribbons, decorations, needles, pins, the list goes on and on..... I always want to buy all the stuff, even if I don't really need it! The also have supplies for some other crafts as well and I've often picked up the odd ball of wool there in the past. As well as the feast of fabric on display, the shop also offers a number of different classes. These include things like quilting and dress-making, usually running for around 6 weeks. So if you're looking for the best selection of fabric available in Glasgow then I recommend heading to Mandors ASAP. If you are looking for the best selection of fabrics to be found in central Glasgow, you've found it! The fabric choice is brilliant from curtains through to craft, with several remnant bins in which you can pick up generously sized pieces of fabric for smaller projects, craft pieces 10 for £5, regular fabric pieces 20 for £5. a large haberdashery section also accompanies for all the trimmings needed to complete a project. My girlfriend absolutely loves fashion, fabric and patterns. A button is a button though. Who cares what it looks like. Right? Well, according to the other half, I'm wrong. The size, colour and style of a button can make a coat what it is. Yeah, whatever! It's nice to come in here and see a busy bunch of enthusiastic staff measuring, cutting and getting so excited about the finer details of dressmaking and upholstery. Once in a while, I even get drawn into it. At Christmas I bought a dress making doll as a gift. It was probably a little obvious that I was standing looking helpless without a clue as to what size to get and whether it would be of any use. The lady who served me was really upbeat and took the time to explain a few bits and pieces that I wasn't aware of before I bought it. Reasonable selection of fabrics but one super rude and unhelpful tall blonde woman in the upholstery department cost them several hundreds of pounds worth of sales. I live in the USA, but when I come back to visit my mother and sister I usually swing by Mandors. Today's trip was long planned because I knew exactly what I wanted, unfortunately they had 8" less than I thought I needed to re-upholster a chair. The lovely young woman who was cutting the fabric for me suggested that the upholstery dept might be able to help me get online to check a resource for the exact amount of fabric I needed. I was told no she "wouldn't go online for something like that". It's nice to know in this economy that some businesses are doing so well they can turn away paying customers. read more

I'm like a kid in a candy shop in Mandors, so many pretty things to look at and touch and wonder over. I could spend alllllll my money and have no idea what to do with it but it's perfect for any of your haberdashery needs, loads of friendly staff and they also do a variety of (very popular) evening courses in crafty skills like quilting. read more

Massive big fabric store - sadly, there used to be quite a few of these in Glasgow but most seem to have closed down. However, Mandors is definitely my go-to place for all things fabric. They have a section at the front of the shop with curtain fabrics, then a haberdashery and craft section, then a big dressmaking fabric and pattern section at the back. With clothes being so cheap these days, material seems awfully expensive now, but their prices are comparable with anywhere else and they do have a very good range of stock. It can get really busy on Saturdays but they have a numbered ticket system which means you don't ever have to wait that long for service. Great shop - if you need fabric, go here! read more

This place is great, always has just what you need for pretty much any sewing project! I got some great fabric here for Halloween and Christmas buntings along with various dressmaking fabrics to print on when I did a screen printing course. The staff are always friendly and helpful and there's usually someone who can help with all manner of sewing or craft questions. It's set out well with plenty of room to look around properly. It is more expensive than other places (hence not 5 stars) but I much prefer it to other places in town if I don't want to buy online or am in a hurry for something. read more

I am feeling very big and grown up today. After faffing about for months about what kind of curtains to buy I took the bit between my teeth and went to Mandors. I was approached after browsing for about 10 mins and asked if I needed help. I saw a fabric that I liked and gave my measurements to Linda who then costed everything out for me. It came out over my budget and I explained this so Linda asked me what my colours in my living room were and made some great suggestions. I was basically done and dusted in 15 mins and someone is even coming out to measure my window properly, and when my curtains are ready someone will come out and hang them for me and fit a new curtain rail. Ta-dah! Very happy. The curtains will take 5 or 6 weeks to come but I'm not in a hurry. Linda did mention something about a Christmas rush so if you are thinking of getting stuff spruced up in your house... Chop chop. read more

I have payed Mandors a visit several times regarding different craft supplies that I wanted to check out physically. Many times, they didn't know what I was talking about. Adhesive tape for fabric seems to be a foreign concept for them. The staff at Mandors is often rude and disinterested to me, despite being polite towards them. They have ignored me when I asked them for personal advise in the past (Their boss is no better...). Their fabric range is a bit small comsidering they are the main fabric store in the city centre. They have told me to go online many times when asking about items they don't have, instead of doing some effort and offering to bring them to the shop for me. I live outside Glasgow, it takes me time and money to get to Mandors, so the last thing I want to be told is to go home and order online from an unnamed, untrusted source. I am definitely not going back to Mandors. I will go online, as advised by them, and get my supplies cheaper and faster. read more
