After making an endless amount of phone calls to fabric shops, I ended up paying a visit to Fabric Bazaar on London Road. The shop is easy to find, and there's even a car park round the back. The staff were really friendly and helpful - and were more than happy to help me find what I was looking for. They have a huge selection of fabrics at Fabric Bazaar - and it's all very reasonably priced.They found me some fabric that was just what I was looking for - and far cheaper than I had been quoted elsewhere. After cutting it and rolling it up for me, they even carried it to my car. It doesn't get much better than that!

They buy job lots, so that affects what they have in stock, but they keep their Facebook page updated with what they have in and they also gave me a business card and told me to phone any time I wanted to ask about stock. I couldn't believe the prices - I got pure wool for £4.99 a metre and linen for £5.99 a metre. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful - I think I'm going to be a regular here! :-)

I had no idea what to do once I'd chosen my fabric but the ladies at the shop were really friendly and didn't laugh when I asked loads of obvious questions! I was served by a girl who helped me choose everything I needed for my project - I just showed her the pattern and from that she was able to give me the right amount of material. There's 3 floors of fabric, the ground floor is my favourite. It's where all the children's fabrics are but there's all sorts of cool patterns that would suit adults too. There's also a large clearance section of fabrics. Cotton Print will now be my go to place for fabric in the future, especially as they sell small bits of fabric for quite cheap so even if you're skint you can still buy something.

I was in recently to look for curtain fabric and just to have a nosey. My previous impression of Cotton Print was that it's only for roll-ends and offcuts, so I was very surprised to find that it's a well-stocked shop full of perfectly good fabric. As I mentioned above, there are three floors of fabric and it's all home dec. You enter on the ground level, which is sort of in the middle in terms of quality. The posh stuff is in the basement and the mince for furnishing uni flats and dodgy rentals is upstairs. On the main floor, there's a little cafe where you can get a free cup of coffee or tea to enjoy while you rest your feet and look through their little library of design books. There is a small amount of haberdashery, wallpaper and coordinating cushions on offer, but the main focus is the fabric. I'd strongly recommend it for those inclined toward DIY home decor. We're about to move house, so the chance that you'll see me perusing the rolls at Cotton Print Factory Shop are pretty good these days.

A longstanding addition to the In-Shops in The Forge Shopping Centre, this has always been the place to head for Halloween, Fancy Dress Parties, Friday nights...Any excuse! They have reels and reels of gorgeous fabrics, for the keen clothing maker, as well as lots of tubes of lovely buttons, thread, needles, wool, knitting needles - the lot! This place has saved me many a time for last minute costumes, selling ready made entire outfits, at a snip of the price of their city centre competitors. I particularly enjoy paying a visit to have a giggle over trying on their silly wigs and transforming my 'do to all manner of ridiculous new looks. A marvellous little dressing up box of a shop and one that I visit time and time again. Highly recommended for fans of dressmaking and dressing up.

Prices are really reasonable and much cheaper than you would pay elsewhere. Loads of goodies packed into quite a small space. Best thing is value money.

The new owner, Razia Monnoo, is based in Pakistan I believe, and seems to take little interest in the business or in feedback from regular customers. I have bedroom curtains made by Mandors that are bad frayed. I was told that Atina, the head machinist in the workroom, agreed to repair these only if I had them dry-cleaned first, as she suffers from a mysterious allergy. After getting the curtains dry-cleaned at my own expense, Neelam and Atina then changed their minds and refused to repair them, citing 'COVID protocols'. Mandors refused to cover the costs I had incurred. When I asked how to make a complaint I was told there was no official complaints policy and it was only after many calls and emails that I was given the email address of the manager, who seems to dislike being bothered by customers. The complaint could have been resolved if I was offered a refund for the costs of my dry cleaning bill - costs which I had incurred at their request - but this didn't occur to Razia Monnoo. It seems odd that she would be prepared to lose a regular customer and receive poor public reviews rather than offer a refund for a relatively small amount. It seems a very strange business strategy! Please find another curtain-maker if you can.

I can think of 4 separate occassions in which they have either given me an idea, or they've helped me choose fabric to complete my own idea, the most recent being red material for a wonderwoman costume cape (not because I just felt like dressing up, I was actually going to a 'Heroes and Villians' party... honest). The lady who helped me (Susan, possibly?) even showed me how to properly seam the edges without having to sew anything as I am particularly crap at that part. She was a great help. The material didn't even cost that much - under £10 for 3 metres of heavy duty, high quality material. And do you know what? The cape survived and looked awesome. It still does.

It's not a huge place but it's amazing the selection of yarn they manage to pack in. It's not full of the expensive Alpaca and cashmere blends you might find in John Lewis but it does house a staggering range of colours and textures and all at a decent price. I first discovered the place when looking for yarn to use at a Yelp arm knitting get-together organised by Lucy B. I hadn't been able to find anything I liked elsewhere but there was a great choice at Supasew. I ended up choosing a felty blue and white yarn with a leopard print. I knitted up wonderfully and was so soft and snuggly! I was also tempted into buying a gorgeous random yarn that ended up becoming a lovely hat for my friend. My most recent trip was to buy some yarn for Christmas knitting projects, I knew exactly what I wanted and was pleased that they not only had what I needed but that there were different options to choose from. A fluffy white yarn and a sparkly red are now mine and will soon be transformed into lovely Christmas themed bits and bobs. I was running in and out tonight but I spotted about 10 other yarns I want to go back and have a look at. As well as yarns the shop also stocks a good variety of knitting needles, buttons, ribbons and other haberdashery bit and bobs to help you finish your project. So if you're looking to do some knitting and crochet and don't want to break the bank then head down to Supasew soon!

My friend and I went in looking for white material to make baseball skirts for a fancy dress night out, and ended up paying quite a bit for it. It is quite a small branch but still stocks a range of materials in various colours, ribbons of all widths and colours. They also have buttons, zips and other sewing bits and pieces. When my mum comes to Glasgow there is always one place we have to visit without question every time…read more- Millers. As a craft obsessive she is like a child walking into a toyshop. This place has everything you could ever want in terms of craft, art and technical materials and I even find myself feeling all creative as I wander through its two floors. The thing that my mum raves about is the 'fill a box' which allows you to fill a rectangular box full of all different types and colours of card and paper to suit your needs. As long as the box closes then you get it all for £7.25 (or £5-odd for a smaller box). The concept is unique and it is the only place in the vicinity that I know of that does this. They also do a 'bonus card' - you get 10 points for every £1 you spend which you can later redeem against some of your favourite goodies. 1 point equals 1p so you are essentially getting 10% off every time you spend. My only qualm? The prices. A lot of their products could be found online on crafty websites for about half the price.

There are alot of things in here, including a great range of inks and paints as well as paper and pencils. I recently topped up on good high quality paper (with high quality prices!). The selection is excellent across the board with alot of stuff that I don't even know the name of so I won't even embarass myself by trying to find appropriate labels for them. 'Crafty stuff'. The staff are friendly and helpful and the place is always busy which is a good sign, particularly given there is another rival store just up the road that is also excellent. Well worth a look.
