These made me chuckle!
Roz M.

I have a new found love for Paperchase! I used to think of this shop if I needed a nice card for someone, in fact I hadn't even been upstairs before yesterday. If you haven't been upstairs, go upstairs! Downstairs has a sign that says 'Art stuff upstairs' but there's so much more than that. You'll find funky paper plates, napkins and decorations for whatever party you're planning on throwing. They even stock Kate Spade coasters, acrylic straws (never before have I desired straws so much!) and other pretty pieces. The have funky prints, nursery art work (Moomins and Miffy) and even a few Spineless Classics. They also have a rather fab sale on at the moment and wonderfully helpful staff.

Paperchase, you naughty minx! It's been a while since my last visit, but when I saw Kelly R's tip that they now stock the best magazine in the world, Frankie, I knew I needed another visit, stat. I'm also on a stationery bender just now (it's a thing, trust me) and wanted a wee poke around. I generally like the ranges of notebooks and accessories in Paperchase but they do have some which are on the naff-side-of-twee for me. Of course no store is going to be totally perfect though, so it can be good for a wander around and sorting the great from the tacky. Up on the first floor there's a huge range of art supplies which I've never really explored before - this is also where they keep the magazines. I've just started a calligraphy course and was hoping they might also have some inks and notepads - they didn't, that I could see but I'll return for another visit to ask someone about it. I also love the wall of gift wrap which I can see coming in handy for when I'm on a home crafting spree (recovering a cork board, for example). There was a queue at the checkout but they move fast, and I managed to sign up for the new loyalty card really quickly. The card gets you free upgrade to next day on online orders, a £10 gift on your birthday and a free coffee in store every week. Win! They're also stocking Christmas cards (in early September) if you need to get your cards early for your far away relatives.

Met one of my wonderful craft loving friends here today for a cold drink upstairs in Tinderbox. Even though it was warm outside (never thought I'd say that) it was cool and pleasant inside which was lovely! Had a wander through some of the new items they have on display which are perfect for summer. They have a beautiful Alice in Wonderland collection upstairs which is so pretty! They also have some gorgeous Kate Spade items. Love this store so much. There's always something new!

I love stationary and notepads and all things quirky that combine the 2 and paperchase covers all bases for me. This store on buchanan street is huge and i can easily lose an hr or two in here. Downstairs you have all the cards and gifts and unusual little items whilst upstairs there is a fantastic art department with a tinderbox cafe. Paperchase are now launching instore craft events where you sign up for a class either instore or via the website and you can learn lots of different papercrafts in a small group environment. This is a brilliant idea for any budding crafters out there that are a little bit shy but would love to give crafting a go. Paperchase do everything right and I hope they continue to be here for a long long time!

A great store the second in Scotland the other being in Edinburgh, plenty of arts and crafts, note books and cards. I did see a sign for Tinderbox for upstairs but did not get a chance to go up as l had a train to catch, but will be back. I did notice that some items are a little on the pricy side.

Paperchase has always had the top spot in my life in terms of stationary. So I was pretty stoked to see they were running some craft events in the Buchanan Street store. After a browse of what was on offer I opted to go learn how to make honeycomb paper Pom poms. There is crafting areas doted around the store which when you find them are really quite intriguing. Laura who was teaching the workshop was an absolute dream, she was cool, fun, talkative and made learning the craft very easy. I had a very proud moment opening up my two toned Pom Pom to see I had actually created something. The class lasted an hour and cost £10.00 which isn't a lot and it is really fun, my only critique if any is having a bit more longevity on the 20% offer you get for attending the class!

Its a huge airy store located in a prime spot on Buchanan Street and I find it hard to walk past without going in.

Quite frankly, anyone who shoplifts from here deserves our sympathy as opposed to disdain. But you know, I don't absolutely detest this place. OK, so I wouldn't thank anyone for a gift from here but every city has these places and quite frankly any visitor who takes the stereotypes seriously is not the sort of person I'm bothered about. After all, I'm prone to buying the odd fridge magnet when I visit a place, but it doesn't mean I think all French people eat baguettes or Belgians worship little boys peeing. The stuff in here is definitely at the lower end of tourist tat but there's nothing wrong with visitors to Central Station, situated beside here, picking up a daft wee souvenir to take home. I concur that the Braveheart nonsense is a bit grating but hey, it's one shop. At least Glasgow city centre is not peppered with them like another city I could mention.

I've popped in here on occasion, mostly because my boyfriend loves his poorly-made Saltire bottle opening keyring and I was trying to find a replacement for him. Another time my friend was looking for a cheesy Scotland t-shirt for his American flatmate as a gag gift. They have the usual touristy guff, Jimmy hats, emblem t-shirts, some cheap clothing, mugs and keyrings with Scottish clan names and definitions aplenty. It could be worse. I've been to lots of shops in, say, London and Paris that are way more overtly stereotypical and crude with their tourist paraphernalia. Overall, it's a decent tourist shop, nothing is terribly embarrassing or poorly made, and although there are shops that do Scottish merchandise better, this is a good place for tourists.

I would recommend giving this place a wide berth if your either hungover or feeling a little under the weather as it can be a tad.....eh, mental. One of those shops that sells just about everything you could imagine a shop selling and a little bit more, this place is quite possibly the scariest place i have ever seen. Need a statue of an African lady carrying a water jug on her head? go here. Need a dozen lighters? go here. Random other thing? go here. It really is that bizarre. I would recommend going to this joint and spending a fiver on a random piece of tat for your mates next birthday. Yes they will hate you, but it'll be totally worth it when they unwrap their incredibly life like Gorilla statue....

Some of the delights you will see in the window? Well how is a replica of the titanic?, Billy Bass fish, wigs, dreamcatchers, virgin Mary statues, daleks, ornaments of staffy bull terriers and that breed of dog that is the same as Paul O'Gradys Buster, model trains and buses, a plastic dragon with red eyes that light up and wings that move back and forth, real life dolls, prayer books, hoover bags, Elvis statues ohh but to name a few. The real mystery of this place is that they actually sell everthing, every battery and light bulb, these guys have them all. If you went in with a missing bit of the Ark or you needed some bolts for a flying saucer these guys would pop through the back and mysteriously have them, all at discount prices!

As a lover of gifts and goodies in general, I'm not sure why I've never ventured in here before,…read morebut when I started following the store on Instagram, (as you do randomly), I knew I wanted to pay a visit. The shop's a good size and you can walk round with out fear of knocking over things which is often the case in tiny gift shops (flash back to knocking over a lladro in Spain with my ponytail when I was five !). Anyway, I was immediately drawn to the lovely jewellery - nice silver delicate pieces by Joma Jewellery and the like, and some chunkier necklaces. I'd been looking for a necklace for my mums birthday and picked up a little one-off black cord one with a drop silver pendant, which was just what she was looking for. There's a lovely selection of scarfs and accessories, as well as home products and stationery, and plenty of lovely things (you know the type that are totally useless but you really want them!). I had to contain my excitement when I saw the Itty Bittys range. To explain, these are small toys based on popular characters, and the Wizard of Oz range in particular are super cute. My best friends daughter is a mega Wizard of Oz fan so I purchased a little Dorothy complete with sparkly red shoes, with the intention of giving it to her for her birthday. Confession time! I got Dorothy home and what do you know it, turns out she likes being used as one of my photography props... so mmm I think I'll need to go back and hopefully buy Dorothy Number 2. Price wise everything is really reasonable, and when I discovered they now have a Christmas section downstairs I had to resist the urge to buy more (come on its only October people). The staff were all super friendly without being overbearing which is exactly what you want when you're in a shop like this. Anyway, with all that, a repeat visit is definitely on the cards to stock up on some Christmas gifts and maybe a wee friend for Dorothy.

It was truely difficult to limit my spending. They have mugs, scarves, jewellery and lots of little gadgets for a birthday or Christmas present. I would challenge you not to find at something for everybody in here. The staff were also lovely and very happy to help with looking for specific items. The only reason for a 4 star instead of a 5 star was that I have seen bigger and more varied greetings cards elsewhere. Definitely worth a look for one of a kind gifts and stocking fillers.
