I find the quality of the clothing at Next has gone down hill since the recession. There are never any real sales here it's as if they have bought stock in especially for the sales. I've always had an issue with the clothing here just due to the way that they tag them once you have washed the t-shirt or clothing there will be a big gaping hole from the way they security tag the clothes that makes them look like seconds. read more

This branch of Next in the Buchanan Galleries is one of the larger stores in Glasgow. It covers 3 floors. Men's on the 2nd floor, women's on the 3rd, and home up top. They cover a whole range of clothing needs, from basic t-shirts to sleepwear to night out clothing. There's also a substantial children's section on the same floor as the gents. As you can imagine, being Next, it's usually absolutely mobbed come sale time. The layout in here is great, as it separates the store not only into departments, but into sections within. The men's has a huge collection of smart, professional clothing, including suits, shirts, shoes, and accessories. Similarly, the ladies has some business smarts and lots of dressy tops for nights out. My qualms with Next are twofold. The first is the price. While their stock is good quality, it's a little out of my price range and their prices are often comparable with, for example, Marks and Spencer, who have a better reputation and probably slightly better quality. The other is that it's still just a little bit too old for me. I have no need for business smarts, so it's just not my type of shop in general. I was out kiddie shopping (please note, not for real kids) as my friend has just popped out a new baby boy who is a whopping 9lbs 14oz. Wooof! I wanted to get their little one something half decent and Next are good for children's clothing. For me I do find it quite expensive but you know you are going to get good quality. It is also handy that they include the weight on the label as well as the age. So my friend's wee one was was too big for the tiny baby, too big for new born and too big for 1 month old. Ouch! So a up to 3 months cute pair of light brown cord dungarees with a navy and white stripy top was the outfit of choice. I thought to steer clear of the baby blues as she'll probably get a lot of, which I was right. I also picked up a 2013 baby box to put the gifts in. Wrapping and gift in one shop. Boom! The women's clothing is not bad. I never used to like the stuff in here, some I still find a bit hmmm... aye, mibbies naw. I do like their 'boyfriend' style jeans and trousers in here. I had tried there jeans on before a good while back and they were too tight at the thigh and hip and huge at my waist. Nae accodation for the curvier ladies but the boyfriend style is spot on. Also good for homeware, bought the same friend, as it happens, some lovely red kitchen type stuff as a house warming present and she was most pleased. It was a bonus too that I had picked red as that was the themed colour in her kitchen. Check me! I just got awesome mind reading taste. Next is the kind of place you begin shopping when you're teens start to become quite a distant memory, and you're comfortable enough in yourself not to really give a toss about being at the cutting edge of fashion, or attracting attention to yourself. Aye it's a tad generic, aye it's a wee bit 'yes I do have a wife and a kid and a mortgage and sensible job, but hell to the yeah if I can't still rock it with my young kid stylee' kinda old man dressed as a young dude funk to it... but you know what? If you dig through that vibe, this place has some pretty decent staple clothes.... if a little bit on the pricy side. Cue sales... whoop de whoop whoop, says I. Nice pair of wooly dress trousers, nicely tailored (read: shows that you have an ass, as opposed to actually showing your ass) that would normally have cost close to £40, down to £15... got win written all over it! Have to admit, the work/office type clothes in here are reasonably priced and don't end up making you look like you work in a cheap (stick 'em in a box, check 'em in the canal) funeral service... is it only me that this imagery works for? Anywhoa... I'd also give a wee 'nice one' *fist bump* dat is the shizzle, heads up to the kids gear in here (I am the rhyme masta). It's well made, reasonably priced and pretty darn funky. Yes it's a chain, yes it's generic, but the gear is well made, reasonably priced and trendy enough to ensure that you don't look like your dad at a wedding. POW. read more

Next is also one of the stores I'm hoping will come Stateside either by web or to NYC. They always have the cutest party dresses and tops to buy when you needed a new outfit to go clubbing or just have something smart to wear in this fashion forward city. I've never actually bought any clothes here, but a few pieces of our living room furniture is from here, so I'm basing this review on their home section. It's a smaller section, but they have enough things for you to view and a catalog available for more purchases. I do love a good home section in shops. We have a coffee table and a large corner TV stand from here, and they are high quality solid oak furniture. Not something I would have expected from Next, but there you go. I believe we were in here looking at bookcase ideas to match the furniture we have, but decided to look elsewhere, and keep the idea of what Next has in our minds. This is a great big branch of Next, situated on the corner of Argyle Street. The staff here are always happy to help and on hand to offer advice on your purchases. I used to associate Next with mumsy clothing and office work-wear, however they've definitely upped their game in recent years. These days you'll find clothing and accessories to suit the whole family, from baby bibs and booties, to leggings, beautiful bags, right up to jammies for your granny. Next is a great all rounder, with clothing to suit everyone and an excellent home department to brighten up your kitchen with polka dot patterns and retro furnishings. It's easy to see why this place is always queued right up the street at sale time. read more

Ditto what Neline said. I wish Next would come to the USA. But I also kind of don't - I love when I get compliments on the jeans/jewelry/adorable top I'm wearing and I can say "Oh, it's from Next. It's in the UK, you can't get it here." There should be a word for that kind of pleasure - the pleasure of being complimented on something unique. However, in the UK, Next is not unique. It is ubiquitous. This particular location is my favorite, though (at least in Glasgow, where I always find myself in the UK) because it is HUGE and the Christmas sales are epic. Right this minute I'm wearing a pretty little necklace I got there after Christmas for just three pounds. They also have a very good petites section - Next is a rare place where a short woman can find a flattering pair of jeans that you don't need to hem. They have clothes of every ilk - casual, party, business and everything in between. Their housewares are adorable and the perfumes are surprisingly pleasing. This mammoth branch goes up three floors in the Buchanan Galleries and has *everything.* I always stop here when we go into the city center because it has the best selection in Glasgow and is so much fun! read more

This next is located on a corner on Argyle Street it has two entrances one takes you in off of Argyle Street the other is located at the side of the store on Queen Street. The store is split onto two levels with a stair case to the front of the store. The stock is well laid out and there is a ramp in the shop to take you from the women's clothes to the underware and nightware section. They stock a range of womens clothing including jeans, tops, jumpers, suits, blouses etc. The upper floor stocks the mens department where you can find the usual jeans etc. This store is good enough to find what your looking for but it can be quite expensive compared to other shops although the quality is good. read more

I am not a frequent Next visitor, because quite frankly, i hate it. The clothes literally bore me to tears and the shoes are mumsy and bland. Safe to say i don't shop here for myself. The baby section is awesome, and the clothing range there is some of the best around. I would always go here when buying for kids, the stuff is cute and reasonably priced. Next Homeware is also quite nice, the duvets and throws being the highlight. This is probably the best branch of Next in town, with the most variety and the nicest staff, in my opinion. read more
