Today was the day that I finally appreciated Tiger. I've been in a couple of times before and just didn't really 'get' the concept. It's carries the most eclectic range of products that you will find anywhere - stationery, craft items, kitchen gadgets, and, bizarrely, spices. I think it was the spices that threw me. Today, I 'got' it - it's just an amazing shop. I could fill my house with this shop. There's probably not much in here that I wouldn't buy if I had the money and the space. Today they had some excellent yoga bargains - £2 for a yoga block is a very good offer. They also had a see through cat poncho at £5 and a foam brain for £3. Literally from the sublime to the ridiculous. It's a great place for quirky presents, but also if say, you are having a party and want to theme your table settings, or coordinate decor for some event or other. I'm imagining really - I never have parties and am unlikely to have any sort of event that requires coordinated decor, but if it's ever a possibility, I will be in Tiger at the break of dawn to stock up. I will definitely be back for some of the crafting products, and no doubt my kitchen drawers will end up full to the brim with their funky and cool kitchen tools. Alongside the fun quirky mad stuff, they also have some very well designed and stylish items. Today, I bought some beautiful tea light holders - they are matt white, very fine china, with jet black nature silhouettes printed on them. Very stylish I thought, and only £2. I also bought a 'printers' drawer' for a tenner. I have been looking for one of these for over a year, and had found some in a second hand shop, but they were a bit big, hideously expensive, and manky, because once upon a time, they were actually printers' drawers. So I'm most pleased with my replica. I managed to resist the bicycle horn that is in the shape of a cartoon bear's head, but only just, it was close. I'm VERY lucky that Tiger is not nearer to where I work.....

My guy and I have decided to remodel our bathroom. Our flat is not quite 10 years old, but our…read morebathroom, although quite modern and done up, is not exactly to our taste, so it's project time. Not having the first clue about remodeling, we decided to leave it to the experts. On a typical winter day (pouring rain in fact), we shuffled in to the Bathstore just before the worst of the weather hit. We were greeted by three men sitting behind the reception desk working away on other people's dream bathrooms. We suggested we were going to have a wander around, but that we were in to buy, so we would want to sit down with them at some point. We were given a booklet of ideas and were told about the sales on at the moment, and were given our space to wander the showroom without being bothered. There's a lot here to look at. If you're looking to replace or remodel your current bathroom, this is a great place to start. They have all sorts of tubs, taps, showers and accessories available for your dream bathroom. Since our bathroom is quite big and a randomly odd shape, we (luckily) came with measurements and pictures to help James (the guy helping us) make up a quick blueprint of our bathroom so we could add things to our liking. Having had a system update recently, all the guys there were saying that it would take a few extra minutes to get used to their new systems, but we weren't in any rush to get back in to the rain, so we were ok with the wait. We were offered a tea/coffee and it was warm in the show room, so it was a nice experience. All the guys there were friendly and had chatty banter. We all had a few laughs. We were able to have a hands on experience where we could actually design and pick out exactly what we want, down to the exact placement of tiles and the direction our tub will be situated. It was a really fun experience! We decided we are going to replace our tub and shower, floor tiles and the back splash behind the tub. We were given a price and a timeline as to when instillation would happen, we put down a 33% deposit of the total price, scheduled for the installer to come take exact measurements and we were on our way out the door. Super simple process. After chatting last night, we decided we might go ahead and replace the toilet and the sink as well, just to have a completely new bathroom. Get in! This experience with Bathstore was a great one. I would highly recommend anyone needing anything bath related to check out this shop. Loads of very knowledgeable staff, friendly and inviting. I can't wait to go back in after the installer come out so we can finalise plans and get this job done!

Bathstore is a good sized shop with tonnes of displays so you can get some ideas and inspiration which is just what we were looking for. Generally, their range is really nice and they have all the bathroom stuff you could need, including floor and wall tiles which means we didn't need to go somewhere else. Their catalogue is quite thick too meaning there's plenty of choice around. We were just browsing and so we were pretty much left to our own devices which is fine. I'm sure we'll be back again for another look once we settle on the colour scheme we're going for. Prices seem quite reasonable with the limited research I've done so far!

Staff could have been more helpful and weren't very knowledgable which seems odd for a business that's been running for years. They are very behind the times with regards to invoicing etc using hand written invoices and no record of stock available. We ordered a shower screen which they wanted payment for delivery on so we arranged our own pick up which seems crazy. The screen came and I was very disappointed at the quality. It had to go back due to being scratched and badly manufactured. After a lot of to and fro'ing and frankly bad communication we eventually got another one delivered directly from manufacturer. I had to construct the screen and it was nothing short of a nightmare as nothing would fit together smoothly due to cheap and ill fitting parts. We opted for a screen with 'Easi Clean' coating on it, big mistake! In hindsight I wish we'd paid much less for plain glass as this coating actually keeps the glass dirty and is a nightmare to clean. We should probably phone them and complain but the screen is fitted and would be a pain to exchange. We also ordered a shower bar mixer which also had marks on it and was exchanged but not without quibbles. I would say if you want to go here then definitely spend more than the cheapest options if your after quality, we are very disappointed with our shower door and panel which is a nightmare to clean and now rolls shut halfway when opening.

Obviously going to the wrong places. I'd been on a mission to find a blanket for the winter - blanket on one side, fleece on the other. Kind of hard to describe but with some great googling (a life skill of mine) I managed to find one at Lakeland. Around £35 which I thought was a good investment seeing as I've suffered through so many freezing Glasgow winters now, I thought this would be nice for snuggling in on the couch. Lakeland's Glasgow store is a lot bigger than I expected covering two floors of stuff. To be honest, I knew I'd fall into temptation if I browsed the lower floor so I just headed straight up to track down the blanket. Found it quickly and was served by a very helpful and chatty staff member when paying. All up a good experience and I look forward to going back for a long "browse" at the kitchen gadgets (which I'm sure I will buy loads!).

Even those of you unfamiliar with the cooker are bound to find something to make you think 'ooooh looky!'. It's a great place to go for gifts, I'd especially recommend it if you're struggling for aunts/uncles and grandparents. I'm not yet a regular shopper at Lakeland. I think I'll need to be over the age of 35 and have my salary increase somewhat before that happens, but on the odd occasion, it comes up trumps.
