First off, let me say this review seems to apply to many businesses in this trade, but Climate Control Services is one I reached out for a repair quote. My AC went out a few weeks ago. An independent contractor diagnosed that my system didn't have any refrigerant left due to a leak in the evaporator coil. Since the coil was still under warranty, he recommended having this fixed by a manufacturer-certified company. Climate Control Systems was the closest, so I gave them a call. They had a tech in the area who they sent out. I was happy given 2 weeks of 90+ degree weather in the forecast. They charged one fixed fee for coming out and another one for diagnosing the issue. I was fine with that since those charges are common and I understood that they wanted to confirm the root cause before giving me a binding quote. The tech arrived within an hour, was friendly and knowledgeable, confirming the leak. He mentioned that this will be expensive since the refrigerant (R410a) I need has been replaced with a newer formula and therefore is now $192 per pound. Within an hour I had my quote from their office. $2,600, split evenly between labor and the refrigerant refill. In the meantime, I did some research and found out that the wholesale price for R410a is between $9 and $11 per pound, that's what Climate Control Services pays for it. I gladly rejected the quote. This is the 2nd time I had to replace the evaporator coil, exact same repair 2 years ago; it took the tech about 5h back then. Since parts are covered under warranty, all of the $2,600 minus $120 for the refrigerant, would go to Climate Control Services. This translates to roughly $500/h. I understand there is overhead running a business, but what infuriated me is the dishonesty of blaming a nonexistent price increase for the refrigerant to get to what they want to charge. In the end, another certified contractor got the job done for a little more than half what Climate Control Services quoted me. To my initial comment about the trade in general: on my hunt for a "non-insane" quote, I came across other contractors who charge even more for refrigerant. My advice, if your repair involves refrigerant refill or partially recharging your system, ask for the refrigerant price and you'll get a good idea of how ethical they are. I didn't give them 1 star because they were very responsive and the tech who came out was nice and knowledgeable. Other than that, hard pass for me. read more

I called Climate Control at 10:30 PM on a Sunday night (when they were closed) and a live person answered! It was about 1 degree below zero out when I called. I was just planning on leaving a message. I explained my problem and she said someone would call me back within an hour. Tom called me back within 15 minutes and spent a lot of time on the phone with me discussing my heating issue. He said that he could come out immediately if I wanted, but I decided it could wait until morning. He came out on Monday morning and spent a great deal of time with me going over all the details of my boiler heating system. (This was a new house I recently purchased that was built in 1955 and had 2 types of heat, radiant floor heat in one part of the house and a baseboard boiler heating system in the addition.) Since I previously only had forced air heat I was not familiar with boilers or radiant heat. Tom came out and spent a great deal of time with me going over all the details and answering my many questions. He was very patient and made sure I understood everything he was explaining to me. I was so impressed with his punctuality, professionalism, patience and attention to detail. He definitely did not try to sell me any unnecessary services or parts for my heating system. It was so refreshing to have someone like him who took the time and energy to explain everything without the "hard sell" tactics used by so many service professionals these days. Tom was great and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is in need of heating or cooling systems service or installation. Dealing with this company was like dealing with an old fashioned company with personal attention, professionalism, honesty, integrity, great service and follow-up. Outstanding HVAC company. My AC had been leaking Freon since the end of summer, 2016. I had already had another company out who added more Freon and suggested looking into a new unit. My system was 25 years old and I knew it was just a matter of time before the heat or Air went out completely. I called 3 different companies for quotes and Tom from Climate Control Services LLC in Elgin was the first to call within 30 minutes of my request. Tom was able to come out the same evening and reviewed our needs. He was very professional and knowledgeable and helped us understand the different systems and how they worked. After spending over an hour with us answering various questions and determining our needs, he measured the rooms and even windows to ensure we had the right size AC (3 1/2 ton unit) and furnace. He even emailed us a proposal before the end of the night. We were so impressed by his professionalism and knowledge of the system that we canceled our other quotes. We were able to negotiate a great price and went with the high efficiency system. His crew was out the following Wed at 8:00am and did an outstanding job. Dan and Greg were very professional and careful when removing they old system and installing the new one. They estimated it would take them 8 hours to complete the work and were done in 7. I cant speak highly enough about the great job they did. Tom was on site before the guys were done and took the time to review the new thermostat and all its features with me until I was comfortable with it. We cant believe the difference in the cooling of the house, rather than having to keep the temperature set for70, we are now able to keep it at 75 and feel much more comfortable. Now the house is cooled evenly, the upstairs rooms are now the same temperature as the downstairs area. When the Village inspector came out to review the work, he commented on what a nice job the installers did. The duct work was neat and well sealed. He said he didn't see a lot of jobs done as well as this was. Again, Climate Control Services from Elgin is the company to use. They came out to perform a furnace clean and check and ended up discovering an issue with the humidifier (motor was out). The technician (Nate) was nice enough to take the time to review the issue with me and made sure I understood the next steps. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from Tom who again walked me through the issue and explained my options. It's not everyday you have an expense like a new humidifier to worry about, but Tom and team took all those worries away.
