In March 2018, we signed a contract with this company (previously JTK Yardscapes, not surprisingly they changed their name) to build some walkways and decorative garden walls on our property. We put down half of the $11,265 total and work was to start and finish between late April and early May.
When material was delivered, all of the material didn't show and some of of it was wrong.
Work started, and almost immediately there were workmanship concerns. There was no mechanical compactors being used to prepare the base, walkway dimensions were not as agreed upon, and other little issues.
Every time an issue was pointed out, the company would not show up for a week or two.
Finally, in June, with 90% of the project incomplete, and after one area started to sink due to faulty base preparation that I already pointed out, and after some incorrect sized material was being modified to "make it work", I finally let the company know I didn't want to continue working with them.
I said I was willing to pay for the correct material that was here, and wanted a refund of the rest. The contractor didn't seem willing to agree to this and wanted to discuss it.
In August, the material supplier came to our property and repossessed the material. This company stated that our contractor never paid for any of it and mentioned they had never dealt with a contractor this bad.
I ended up having to hire another contractor, but they were unable to start until October. So my yard was torn up with no entry to the front or back door all Summer. Construction debris and holes were all over and the yard was torn up. Luckily, the new contractor was able to tear out the first contractor's work and complete the project perfectly in six days.
It is now March 2019, and the contractor still has not refunded my $5,632.50 deposit. They also took down this review on their Facebook page.
EDIT 12/2019 After a court appearance and several court filings for bank account garnishments on the business, our full deposit has been returned. Glad to have this over with. read more
