I am extremely disappointed with the care my daughter received at Hendricks Regional Health in…read moreBrownsburg. My daughter had just been discharged from the hospital on September 19 after spending a week there going through detox from fentanyl. On September 20, she became extremely sick again. She was vomiting very badly and was visibly very ill, so I took her to Hendricks Regional because I was concerned about her condition and wanted her evaluated. When we arrived, her blood pressure was taken and recorded as 114/120. She was then taken to a room, but after that, we were left waiting without any explanation about when someone would come in to evaluate her. Because my daughter was so sick and vomiting severely, I asked the nurse how long it would take for the nurse or the doctor to come see her. The nurse stated that the doctor had other patients and that there was no turnaround time for when the doctor would come in. At that point, after seeing how sick my daughter was and not knowing how long we would be waiting, we decided to leave and seek care at Community East. Before we left, the nurse asked where my daughter and I were going. I told her that because Hendricks Regional was so busy and we did not know how long we would have to wait, we had decided to go to Community East instead. Her response was simply, "Okay," in a manner that came across as dismissive, as though it did not matter that we were leaving with a very sick patient. As a mother, this was extremely concerning and upsetting. My daughter had just gone through a week of detox from fentanyl, had only been home for one day, was vomiting severely, was very sick, and had returned to the emergency department because she needed medical attention. I expected her condition to be taken seriously and for someone to communicate with us about what was happening. I am also African American, and I cannot ignore the fact that experiences like this can leave patients and families questioning whether they are receiving the same level of urgency and consideration as other patients. I am not making an accusation that I cannot prove, but the experience made me uncomfortable and concerned enough that I feel it needs to be addressed. Patients and their families deserve communication, compassion, and appropriate medical attention--especially when someone has recently gone through detox and returns to the hospital extremely sick. I hope Hendricks Regional will review what happened, including the triage process, the communication from staff, and why my daughter was left waiting without being evaluated despite how sick she was.

If you or a loved one requires the services of a Digestive and/or Liver Disorders physician take…read morethe time to meet with the IU Team. Please know I personally feel the Digestive and Liver Disorders Center at IU Hospital is one of the best in the country. They are incredibly busy but work with each patient based upon the gravity of the illness. The physicians, surgeons, nurses, CNA and complete team are past amazing but more along the level of phenomenal. The surgeons and physicians have spent years treating my health issues and truly saved my life. Now, years after my procedure, I still receive the same excellent care as the first day I met my team of doctors. The extraordinary level of compassion and devotion never seems to diminish. After working with my physicians and team I found a new inter-strength and put my life into their hands and those above. I never doubted their skills or wisdom nor would they give anything less than a 150% during surgery after a little assistance from above. I feel blessed I live in Indianapolis and was referred to my IU Physicians after a gall bladder issue. The treatment path is usually long, frustrating with many hoops to jump through with a sense of helplessness. The team remains steady while encouraging and doesn't fall down on the job. Now coming up on my 4 year post surgery anniversary these tenacious physicians and staff regularly monitor, treat any new developing medical issues and confirm all is going well. Many patients have temporarily moved to Indianapolis to request health care from the Digestive & Liver Disorders Center. I feel fortunate I am located in Indianapolis and didn't have to experience the long drives, temporary moves from out of state to Indy after being on a waiting list for years. Dr. Saurabh Agrawal is my physician and takes time with each patient and truly listens to your concerns.

I had to get a mammogram MRI, and was directed by my doctor to go here. It's not the closest to my home, but it wasn't difficult to get to, and there is lots of parking. Of course, medical facilities have to medical facility, and when I went to check in, they did not have the proper paperwork sent from my doctor. Where did it go? Who knows, but I went to sit down in the waiting room while they figured it out. Eventually, the office faxed it over to this office, and all was good. Once I got back to the MRI room, the whole thing went really fast. They explained clearly what was going to happen, they inserted the IV with the dye easily and painlessly, and I was supported and walked through every step. I got headphones that played any type of music I wanted, and I basically just chilled and meditated and breathed while not moving a muscle for 10 minutes. If you need to get an MRI here, don't fret. You are in good hands! They are very straightforward with the process and try to get you in and out efficiently. Bonus: I got my results within a few hours the same day.
