I had never had a surgery where I was "put under" completely (IV sedation) until I had to come here to undergo a procedure that required that I was completely knocked out. So, I was very nervous. I imagined all the worst-case scenarios happening. But after I had said all my prayers and double-checked that my living will was up to date, I sucked it up and went to Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center to get my procedure over with. It turns out, I didn't have to worry so much! From being checked in to being wheeled out, I was in good, competent and capable hands. The nurses, doctors and staff are all patient and kind, and they realize that you are in a vulnerable position, so they take extra steps to talk through everything with you and make sure you are as comfortable as possible. While I was waiting to see the surgeon, I was in my own little room with a TV, which I loved because I could focus on it and not on the anxious thoughts swirling in my head. What I like about this place is that they tell you what will happen step by step, so you know what to expect. They tell you about the little room that you go to and get changed into a gown and slippers, and then they tell you what they will do in that room (take your blood pressure, hook you up to an IV, etc.). Then they tell you that they will wheel you down to the surgery room. Then they tell you how long the surgery will be, how long you will be in the recovery room, and when you can go home. They also update your loved one who is waiting for you in the waiting room. Everything about this place is well-managed. I won't say that I can't wait to come back to Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center, but if I every need another surgery, this will be my go-to surgery center.

I arrived at 7pm and was told that an ultrasound tech…read morewas on call and had already been called due to another patient experiencing the same symptoms that I was and needing an ultrasound as well. I was told that once the tech was called, she had an hour to report in so it may be a wait. From about 8pm when I was moved to the ER side (apparently required due to needing an ultrasound), I was left in the room and would leave to go out in the hallway and check in with nurses to find out when I would be seen or any updates on the tech arriving. I did this about every half hour since I had been previously told she had an hour to report in. The tech finally saw me at 12am. During the ultrasound, she had constant phone notifications sounding off and distracting her from the procedure. At one point, she had me (the patient) hold the transvaginal probe inside of my body so that she could respond to her phone. I was already quite distressed due to the nature of going through a miscarriage, and this made it much worse. The cherry on top was the bill I received. $3400 (after insurance claims). $2000 of this portion was just due to having to check into the ER (to not be seen whatsoever) but just to have the ultrasound in that ER room. Just beware before coming here. The doctors and nurses are kind, but "on call" does not mean much to the techs. Also, beware that you will end up paying thousands if you step foot into their ER (even if no testing or care is done via ER services).

After registering for the surgery, we had a minimal wait before we were whisked away to a pre-operation room. My mother's pre-op nurse, Erin, was nice and readied my mother for her upcoming procedure. They estimated the surgery would last 65 minutes and that was about the time I sat in the lobby/waiting area. They offer free coffee and a soda and snack vending machine. Dr. Usmani checked in with us before the procedure. Afterwards he explained the process, the success, and gave me instructions for her recovery. The post-op nurse, Cara, was equally as nice. Erin stopped by to check on her afterwards as well. Cara was very helpful in assisting my mother get into the restroom and the car. My mother had surgery on her foot the previous day, and it had affected her mobility. We had a great experience at this location of OrthoIndy. I would come here for future surgeries.

Knock on wood, I have only been a visitor to Forte, and not a patient. But I've known three people…read morewho have been patients at Forte, and all of them have had great experiences here. These patients sing praises about Forte, from the doctors to the nurses to the efficient people at the front desk. From a visitor's point of view, Forte is great. They are very straightforward with their instructions, which I appreciate. Just tell me what to do and what to expect, and I'll do it and expect it. Everything went pretty much according to what they said. They have a smoothly running system here. Visitors can help themselves to the unlimited coffee and water at the coffee and water station. This is where the Little Free Library is located! The waiting room also has multiple seating arrangements, from high-top desks to comfy chairs to love seats. Or, if you need something to eat or drink, there's a cafe on the first floor. (See my separate review for La Verna Cafe.) The waiting room is airy and bright. One thing that's kinda weird is that a "cruise director" comes and talks about what to expect with your surgery ... right in the waiting room, among all those random people. That seems unusual, right? However, there are private rooms that you're taken to when the time comes to talk about your particular case with the doctor. As a visitor who is not a patient, Forte is great. But I've been told that it's also great being a patient here, so there's that.

I had anaphylaxis symptoms which were getting worse every minute, but the check in process was so quick, all I had to do was hand my ID and insurance card and then the next second I was in a room and taken care of by four people. So quick and efficient, they answered questions I had and told me not to worry about anything but getting better at that moment. Their professionalism and work made me feel so secure and relieved. Obviously I don't want to have to go there again, but if you live in the area, know that you can count on them in case you need medical attention!
