Small hotel with about 8 rooms--great location right next to the ferry (yes, beautiful boat ride to get there--about 25 minutes) and right in the heart of town near shops, markets, ice cream shops, and restaurants, 2 block walk to beautiful beach. Awful experience. Took bikes out and the bike lock broke. Pictures attached. Then we had the girl who was very sweet come help us and then the chain broke off twice which is had to fix. I have stayed with my husband at Cleggs numerous times and have always found whichever room we have slept in to be clean and perfect for our needs. The owner could not be nicer and more welcoming. The bicycles and beach chairs are an added plus. The paperwork sent ahead of time is very clear about their strict rules which is necessary given the beach community. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a clean place to stay in the center of town. read more

For what we paid I do not know if it was worth the money, however we stayed over memorial day weekend so that might've had something to do with it. The owner was around every corner it felt like every day, and they are extremely strict about their no guest policy, even during the day you cannot have anyone up to your room which felt a little weird to be questioned and watched so much. Our room had a full bed and a twin bed, the communal bathroom was pretty clean for it being communal which was nice. The cleanliness of the room was okay, the carpet felt dirty and there were a lot of chips in the furniture and on the walls. The beds were not the most comfortable, and the AC at one point spit a bunch of black dust/dirt on to the comforter. One of my friends however did get ringworm the day we checked out, so it's very possible she could've gotten it here. It is a very convenient location, however if you are going to relax be mindful it's across the street from a bar that is open late and can get loud. Overall it was a meh stay, for the price we paid i'm sure we could've found something a tad bit nicer, it did the job as we were really only there to sleep. read more

What a lovely hotel! Right near the ocean beach ferry, so it's easy to get to, and surrounded by restaurants, cafes, stores. Great location. I guess if you're looking for a tranquil beach stay, this might not be the best place, but if you're bothered by the noise, just turn on the fan or air conditioning, and boom! White noise to cover everything. It's a tiny island, so obviously everything is expensive here (there's not enough competition to drive down prices, and real estate is a super valuable commodity). Keeping that in mind, this actually is the cheapest hotel around, and definitely the best value for money. There are a variety of room types- if you just want a place to sleep and don't mind sharing a bathroom with other guests, there are rooms with a full size bed, or two twins, or a full size and a twin. They're small rooms, but each has places you can hang your clothes and towels, and there are fold up beach chairs if you want to sit somewhere other than the bed (you can also take them to the beach!), and beach umbrellas. I was a bit apprehensive based on other reviews, but the rooms are clean and well stocked with bottled water and toiletries. Bed linens are nicer than what I have at home. You use a code to get into the shared bathrooms, but don't worry, they also lock from the inside so no one can in with their code while you're in there! I love the way they have great natural lighting from skylights. Breakfast varies based on what they have that day (because, you know, it's an island!). We had mini muffins, pastries, and apples, but then we found oatmeal in the cupboard and used hot water from the coffee maker. Score! No bagels or OJ, unfortunately, but still an adequate breakfast. i don't care that this hotel was so shitty and rundown - not the point. the owner was sooooo rude. my friend and i booked a room and we said our friend might stop by and then later he accused us of having a 3rd person in the room which DID NOT HAPPEN. then he proceeded to say he would call the cops if she even touched the beach chairs or bikes. she was terrified to even walk around the hotel in fear of going to JAIL. he made us feel so terrible and cheap and told me i owed him 2k for taking a picture of his dog. i would've been okay staying in this crappy hotel for $400 a night but since he was so rude i will never return. read more

The staff here was extremely friendly and helpful. We only stayed for 1 night but upon check out were offered beach chairs and an umbrella to use at the beach for the day, they also held our bags for us. Upgrade to the suite, it is worth the money for the private bathroom and the rooms are quite spacious. In addition to the bed there is also a couch and a kitchenette (with sink, mini fridge, microwave, plates, glasses and corkscrew). It does get noisy as you are right in the center of town and near the ferry, but the A/C unit and fan blocked out the noise. The location is very convenient. read more

My wife and i stayed here for a 3day/2night stay this past weekend. Its not a luxury stay but was exactly what we needed since we spent 90% of the time outdoors. Its literally steps off the Ocean Beach ferry. Tyler was a pleasure to deal with. He did explain there only will be coffee in the mornings due to COVID19. Our "suite" was behind door C, which includes a private bathroom. Kinda clutch if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We had a view of the bay which you can catch the amazing sunsets from. the AC worked along with the ceiling fan. Noise was tolerable at night but the AC drowns it out. This hotel is in the middle of everything and if you dont want to walk they have bikes you can take out. During my stay the bikes had to be back by 6pm. The hotel maids are also friendly. THERE IS NO TV but who needs one when youre on an island. i also noticed the couch we had in our room folds out into a bed. They supply shampoo/conditioner/lotion. Mini fridge did its thing in keeping my beers cold. We hit the beach with their beach chairs that are located inside the room. Small table with 2 chairs also worked for us. No complaints here. read more

Good. But......... It is what it is. You can't beat the fact that it is literally 100 feet from the ferry slip, if that. If you came in on the ferry from Bay Shore, it is right there, and if you are there late in the day enough to check in, just walk in, up the stairs. The check in process is simple enough, especially if you paid fully in advance. The suites, with their own bathroom are at one end, closer to the bay, and the rooms are at the other end. We had a room with a double bed, but there are other configurations of rooms with different bed combinations. The rooms are on the perimeter, and there are four communal bathrooms in the center. It is important to note that if you have a room, you don't get your own bathroom. But you don't have to walk far for one. Our room was literally across the hall from the bathroom. You access each bathroom by punching in a code. The bathrooms are reasonably clean, have a shower with plenty of hot water, and are well lit; naturally lit with a skylight. The rooms (at least ours) are basic. No TV or any serious luxury. It was small, but clean, well lit with a nice view of the slip and the bay, and had everything a person spending a few nights on Fire Island could need. The air conditioner worked well. Absolutely nothing wrong with it; no complaints. But it is simple. If you are looking for luxury appointments, you will not find them at Cleggs. This is a comfortable room to have so you can enjoy the island and get a good nights sleep. They also have bikes and beach chairs for you use. They offer a simple continental breakfast, as well: bagels, pastries coffee, etc. It was a good experience, no problems, and we would certainly stay again. My only suggestion: Perhaps the hotel could consider more substantial window blinds, or even blackout shades, for the windows that face east. Having that sun blaze in at 6:30/7AM is a beast, especially if you went to bed late the night before. The mini blinds didn't do a great job at mitigating that, so perhaps a thicker shade would be in order. The view is lovely, but not if you are trying to sleep. read more

TERRIBLE! This place is basically a college dorm. The rooms are very tiny with a community bathroom in the halls. This place would've been OKAY if the service wasn't so AWFUL. When my party and I arrived the receptionist couldn't find our reservation and had us wait for about 15 minutes before finally realizing they gave away the room they booked for us. Once they realized they were able to accommodate us by putting us in 2 separate rooms for the same price. Now let's get to check out- we left the hotel one night early due to an evacuation. After giving back the keys and making sure we were all good to go we get a call from the hotel accusing us of running out on our bill. The reason being is that when they initially took the credit card number down they messed it up and didn't realize. Once they finally realized they actually had the audacity to ask us for more money than we initially booked. They were SO RUDE But on a lighter note the muffins were okay if you like mini muffins read more

Completely overpriced for what you receive. I wasn't expecting a five star hotel, it's fire island, things are overpriced... but I didn't expect Clegg's to be so rundown. Upon check in, the guy in the office felt it was more important to continue a text message conversation rather then help a guest. The rooms are definitely not worth the price. The comforter on the bed, where it was once white is now brown. The paint on the walls isn't consistent. The curtains are pathetic. The windows are filthy. The door knob gets stuck and has to be played with in order to get the door closed. Four shared bathrooms. One has a newer toilet & sink so I tried to use that one as much as possible. One the bolt lock gets stuck locked, so you may be locked in the bathroom for a bit longer than you'd like. Another bathroom the toilet doesn't always flush. The fourth bathroom, I didn't use. The bicycles that are included are OK. The girl in the office only knew the combination to one of the locks, limiting us to only two of the seven, maybe eight bikes. One of the two we were limited to, had broken handle bars. Forced to use it, until the steering was unable to control. Went back to change it for another bike and it took an extra half hour because she didn't know the combination for the other lock and whoever she asked for help to "repair" the broken handlebars, couldn't find the right tools. If you want to spend your money on a hotel that doesn't put any money back into the hotel, then stay at Clegg's. read more

First time here and what was supposed to be a one night stay turned in to two! Great location and super friendly and accommodating staff! Everything was super clean including the shared bathrooms (at all times) and they have beach chairs, umbrellas, bikes and a continental breakfast complimentary for guests! I must say, this was an ideal place for an overnighter...free beach chairs, umbrella and bikes...clean interior with basic necessities...manager very accommodating...light continental breakfast ( half bagels, danish, coffee)...shared bathrooms, but there are several so it feels like you have your own...hotel is right off the ferry and close to all, air conditioned room...showers could use hot/cold adjustment...manager allowed us to use the shower after check out when we came back from beach plus held our luggage..a big plus...the sunset is amazing in the evening...a memorable stay! read more

Pros: Convenient location, right off the ferry and in the center of town They provided a private room, AC, sheets, towels, and basic toiletries Fresh flowers in the entry and bathrooms They provided a bottle of Dasani water and new beach chairs Friendly staff (reception and housekeeping) Cons: Located in the noisiest part of town, across from a loud bar (there is no quiet room) Walls are paper thin Shared bathroom Sheets and blanket were clean but old and faded My husband found a dead bug in the sheets when we woke up No common area to sit (inside our out) Very expensive for what it is (we paid $525/$586 w tax for 2 nights) Because of the location, it attracts a lot of drunk young people. If you're looking for a quiet weekend, this is not the hotel for you. If you're looking for a good time and a place to crash, this works perfectly. read more

Ok we went with the groupon. It's steps from the ferry, a big plus. So you get a full sized lumpy bed in a small, clean room with shared bathrooms that smell great and are super clean so that's a plus. Good for a couple of days but 5 days and we were running home. Ocean beach is beautiful but seriously expensive. It would have helped a bit if clegg's would have given us water for free. Their breakfast was coffee, oj, mini bran muffins and bagels and cream cheese, no butter. If you have to even pay for the water you drink be prepared to spend about $200 a day for 2 people on ocean beach. There are no TVs at this hotel and it's seriously necessary for downtime on evenings when there is nothing to do. It was ok, I wouldn't come back here, would prob rent a house nearby instead. read more

I also got a groupon to come here. The location could not be better, it's as close to the ferry as you can get which was perfect for us as we were desperate to drop off our heavy bags. It's also next to tennis courts which we were thrilled to use, as well as a basketball court. There's a general store with ATM within the Cleggs building. There are plenty of bars/restaurants right near by too. We went to happy hour and out dancing until late and it was fabulous to just walk across the street and be home! As for those saying the bars were loud, that is true. We opted to close our window and use the AC fan to drown out the noise and it did the trick. The beach is only 7 minute walk away, but bikes are available to borrow for free from Cleggs with locks included which take you there even quicker! The bedrooms are certainly a bit kitschy, but to me it just added to the charm. It felt like it fit in with the beach town and we had no complaints - besides how much time are you going to be in your room!? The bathrooms are shared. They were clean and we never had any issues getting an available bathroom. The breakfast is an assortment of pastry/donuts and bagels. There's also coffee and juice. As far as hotel breakfasts go it's definitely minimal, but it was perfect for us. There isn't really a place to eat the food, so you'll have to take it back to your room or outside. All in all, we had a fabulous time at Cleggs. Maybe it's slightly overpriced, but I guess that's to be expected in FI. The facilities were perfect for one night stay and Tyler was a friendly face at the front desk. I would return. read more

For years I've always stayed on my boat when I took vacations to fire island. This time though, my boyfriend and I stayed at the Cleggs hotel! Being a just few yards away from the ferry was great because I didnt have to lug all my bags too far. Tyler, (the owner) was awesome. He welcomed us as soon as we walked in and was very attentive to all of our needs. Our room was nice and cozy, everything immaculate! plus! We had a complimentary Smart water waiting for us :) as well as bagels and coffee in the morning downstairs My favorite part about the place was that they offered us beach chairs and beach cruisers! We had soo much fun riding our bikes across the island. There was always fresh fruit and water bottles down the hall from our room which hit the spot when we'd come back from our bike rides. Stayed at Clegg's this past Sunday/Monday. Purchased it with Groupon, but somehow paid more than their regular rate. Not sure why that happened. But, anyway, we very much enjoyed our stay here. The owner and staff were super friendly and very accommodating. I strongly recommend upgrading your room to a suite, otherwise you will be sharing a bathroom located in the hallway! Rooms need a little updating, but were very clean. Another plus, it is located literally right off the ferry. We found that super convenient not having to lug all of our stuff through the crowded streets. Also, no TVs in the room. We weren't there to watch TV, but I still like to have one. No wireless internet either. But neither of those things were an issue for us. Would definitely stay here again. read more

Cleggs is perfectly nice and all these complaints are ridiculous. Of course it isn't the 4 seasons but it was spotlessly clean and the shared bathrooms were not once an issue. The staff was very helpful and there all night in the office. It's quaint and a little like a dorm or boarding house but it's fire island, the point isn't to be there sitting around in a luxury hotel. I took the risk, knowing what Cleggs was like from the 90's(a dump) thinking it would have to have been thru a major renovation since then but also because there were enough positive reviews to take the chance. OMG. This is a frat house. Really loud bars all around until 4 am on the weekends. The rooms are really run down and filthy. But the weird thing is that the bathrooms are nice and look like they were just renovated. They need to get some money together and redo the rooms. I new the bathrooms were to be shared, but the rooms were so old and not the cleanest. We took the blankets off the bed because they were brown but you can tell they were once beige.
