Five star experience relative to the options in immediate area…read more We made a wedding at the nearby Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation and found Viana on Amex Platinum's website. Hotel suite on PH level had a jacuzzi, terrace, living room space, and bedroom with extremely soft linens. Cost was $350 a night which is what we'd pay for an ordinary room nearby. Easy parking, great coffee, very friendly staff and when we needed to extend checkout a few hours the cost was shockingly low, they were very accommodating. Didn't try room service but no problems ordering Uber Eats to the hotel. They also have an option of placing chocolate covered strawberries, rose petals and champagne in the room for $75. Regardless of occasion, choice this option! Primo will definitely stay here again if life brings us back to the neighborhood.

The room is great for us changing for a 9 o'clock show we have 18 miles away. Most likely we won't be sleeping here tonight we will be on the highway after the show. This is a clean hotel and we use it often when we frequent this area it's a good place to check into when in this area and very clean and comfortable. Good quality hotel and they have a restaurant downstairs with a small menu. The Quality of this hotel is well worth the money.

The Surfside Hotel

My siblings and I are planning to gather in Lordship Township, which is part of Stratford,…read moreConnecticut, to celebrate my sister's birthday in January 2025. Our family has gathered here for about 30 years, for holiday dinners at our mom's house, which is in Lordship Township, right on Long Island Sound. For all of those years, those of us who traveled from a distance would stay at Marnick's, a locally owned hotel that's right on the beach near our mom's house. Our mom passed a few years ago and I hadn't returned to Lordship Township since then. On a whim, browsing online for hotels in the area, I learned about The Surfside Hotel. I learned that Marnick's had closed and that a while later Surfside emerged, sporting a whole new vibe. Prior to committing to recommending a sibling gathering there, I spent the night last week at Surfside. I'm happy to report that the upgrade is impressive. While the rooms now cost more than they did when Marnick's owned the place, the prices are well within reason for the area. I took an Amtrak from D.C. (about 6 hours), paid about $12 for an Uber/Lyft from the train station, and arrived to meet Iona at the hotel's front desk. She took my information and offered that she'd been there for about 2 years and the present owners have been there for about six years. All the features of the hotel appeared to be solidly restored and improved upon. I had a second-story room (21) with a balcony looking out to the Sound. There was a complimentary coffee bar with self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, and snack bars. There's a beach-reading library, so I contributed my copy of Rachel Kushner's recent novel, "Creation Lake," which I finished reading on the train ride from DC. There were no downsides. There's a decent efficient fitness center that includes a Peloton and free weights. There's a map of the area suggesting pleasant walks along the seawall, Russian Beach, the Prospect Light House, and Long Beach Gatehouse. There are paths taking hikes of two miles, 3.6 miles, and five miles, and a suggestion for a longer bike ride. The main reason for this visit was to see whether the siblings would be able to stay on site for meals. There's a well-populated bar and restaurant attached to the hotel called The Little Pub (see my Yelp review.) There's also a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar half a block away. There's a deli and an adjacent pizza parlor three blocks away, where I picked up a single slice of pizza and a portion of carrot cake. The Lordship Corner Market is right next to the pizzeria, and has sandwiches, newspapers, and sundries for days at the beach. For those with cars, I can recommend the Cricket Car Hop, a mile or two inland, for great hot dogs, burgers & fries (it was a favorite of my mom's, and we went there just about every time I visited, but I wasn't in town long enough this time to visit). Things to keep in mind: Surfside is a small business, not part of any chain. Iona needed to know when I was likely to arrive, to be sure someone was available for check in. No one was at the front desk when I checked out (but I received a check-out acknowledgement shortly after 9 a.m. the day I checked out). I believe pets are welcome (I saw a service dog there as I was leaving in the morning). There are no elevators, and my room was on the second floor. The hotel is still using single-use plastics for the shower, and the tub lacked handholds. But the vibe is good . . . we get the aloha and mahalo greetings, suggesting Hawaiʻi roots. The innkeepers report that "Boy knows nothing about running a hotel, but restaurant comes with a hotel attached so it's all or nothing. Boy must convince Girl it's a good idea. Girl is not impressed. Boy breaks into song. Girl is impressed and says YES! Restaurant and hotel are redone, there is singing and dancing, and everyone is happy." True Romance! Mahalo

"On the expressway to your heart That expressway, not the…read morebest way At five o'clock It's much too crowded" (The Soul Survivors) Located right off the Long Island Expressway, and a few zig zags through industrial and retail parking lots, you'll find the Residence Inn Marriott. Check-in went smoothly and we had a very nice suite-like room with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, sink area, and bathroom. The bed was comfy, the HVAC controls worked fine, and the TV and WIFI were excellent. The shower temperature and pressure were perfect. However, there were some Annoying, Disappointing, and Absurd observations that impacted this three-star rating. What was Annoying? The bathroom fan and shower were guilty of annoyance in the first degree. When you turned on the light switch, the ceiling fan would slowly fire up and soon hit such a loud volume that I thought someone in the room next door was taking a shower. And then when we were taking our showers, there was a bizarre beeping noise that came from deep within the bowels of the plumbing system. Seriously, I thought it was an alarm or a phone beeping. What was Disappointing? Simply put, breakfast was disappointing. They had had the usual breakfast offerings -cereal, muffins, yogurt, fruit, and a waffle maker. But there were only two hot trays -scrambled eggs and sausage patties. The lack of hot choices when compared to comparable hotel breakfasts was disappointing. Oh, and the tray of bananas was empty for quite a while, and we gave up waiting for it to be replenished. What was Absurd? This hotel is in an open suburban space next to a shopping center and a movie theater. I looked out the window of my room and must have seen 75 available parking spots in the hotel lot. So, all that makes it particularly galling and absurd that the Marriott charges a $12/night parking fee. What's also annoying is that the fee is kind of hidden, and the cost was never directly vocalized when we checked in- just a "we'll take a credit card imprint for incidentals".

They are dog friendly which is a plus for those traveling with their furries. My room was very comfortable, clean and sleep quality was good. I never did the breakfast, but big respect for the great morning coffee! I did find that they do not keep the common areas very tidy. Might be a staffing issue, but there was trash in several areas including the stairwells and my last day I could clearly tell nobody had vacuumed the stairwell the entire time I was there. I did have housekeeping the third day of my stay/after my second night but it was not thorough- they just made the bed, left fresh towels, emptied the trash and ran my coffee cups through the dishwasher. Totally fine but No vacuuming ( there was stuff on the floor from my shoes the day before), did not leave any coffee in room and had clearly not wiped the bathroom vanity area down. I am not very messy so it was a non issue. Some of the people that stay here may be a little strange (maybe that is everywhere) as on my third morning, I opened my door and there was a balled up dirty sheet that someone had clearly intentionally left right there! Very bizarre. Between the good and strange I would stay here again, I really liked the staff and my room was very comfortable!

I had low expectations going in but was pleasantly surprised with all the decor and amenities in the lobby and rooms. Positives: - clean clean clean! So important! - 24x7 minimart on first floor with all the food, snacks, treats and travel stuff - quiet rooms, neighbors had loud music but once we shut the door we couldn't hear it - beds were very comfortable and soft - sheets were super soft! No scratchiness! Wish there was separate top sheet. Instead it's just the comforter with sheet/case around it - the two types of pillows are such a great idea! The soft had down feathers (I think? At least It felt like it) and was nice to have choice which one to rest your head on - complimentary keurig (bring your own kcups if you want better coffee and sugar as well. They give you one packet with wood stirrer) - mini fridge held a lot of drinks and snacks and racks are removable - microwave: perfect for families with kids (hit the mini mart for ramen, pizza, or Mac & cheese) - large 55 inch tv - pull out rolling table with chair - we had a double queen room and it was a little tight in there between the beds and other furniture - charging charging ports + regular sockets bedside table and other sockets throughout room - 2 mirrors: 1 full length and the other half mirror above bench and charging area - Large bathroom with large standing shower (no tub), loved the big mirror with great lighting also includes hairdryer and wall pumps for soap & lotion, shower pumps (shampoo, conditioner, soap) - water pressure not so great but was always warm/hot - our floor had washer and dryer $3.50 and the vending machines have soap and dryer sheets! Negatives: - window only opens a couple inches for fresh air - weird smelling hallways... like too much cologne/air-spray, very overwhelming when you enter hallway - scratchy little towels - cheap TP, bring your Charmin! - lots of duck poop outside on walkways, they do a good job spraying it down often but it's a full time job! - limited parking especially when there are multiple events on weekends - no safe in the room, is that not a thing anymore? Limited space issue I think? You can purchase breakfast with your reservation for $40. The Sonoma Grill is attached to lobby and is open very early at 6am and has a fantastic breakfast (see my other review). Kids under 12 eat for free (although I was unaware until after, so we ended up paying) They also have a gym, business center, and free shuttle as well as ADA/accessible guest rooms! Overall a great stay and would definitely return on my next visit!

Beautiful location off 495 Long Island highway, beautiful inside as well, comfy bed and bed sets, room was equip with microwave, k cup coffee maker, nice decor. When I checked in they told me that coffee is complimentary to my stay since they don't serve breakfast, cafe inside hotel was under construction. So one evening as I was leaving for work, grabbed my coffee and was about to leave, one of their employees stopped me, and said that I have to pay for the coffee, told her that it's for free and I had been getting it for two nights; she said, not today. I left without it and not going to pay for it. Next, my 3rd nights stay, I got a mail under my door about their policy of cleaning the room. So next day when I got back from work after my night shifts, house keeper just opened my door while I was getting undressed to shower, she apologized and I said to her come back in 20mins. She never showed up, I waited until 9;30 am & I went to sleep bcos I have to work same night. At about 2:30 pm, they started banging on my door, I told them that I don't need anything now, they went and called the manager or someone, who insisted that I must leave the room for cleaning, I did. After that, I cld not fall asleep again until it's time to get ready for work at 5pm. So disappointed and wanted to move but I had only couple days; just have to deal with them. So I noticed after that incidents, my room was-completely cleaned before my arrival every morning at 8;30! So you cld do that every morning without disturbing me??????. I don't want to think of staying here again, they lack customer service, they just run the hotel anyhow. The facility looks very nice and calm in my opinion.
