Last Monday, I found termites in two locations inside my home. I called and reported the issue on Monday. I was promised that Angela, the Office Manager, would return my call. When my call wasn't returned, I called again. I also sent emails and photos. I asked for a copy of my policy and Sonya, the HOA manager, sent me a black form (see photos) in response. I replied that I wanted a copy of my policy not a blank document. She sent me a letter on the company letterhead stating I had a treatment & repair warranty on my home. The company is only agreeing to repair the wood on the floor but they're refusing to inspect or repair the 2 walls we both photographed and documented. They refuse to agree to repair the walls. On the phone, on Friday, Angela said their General Contractor, MCC, will inspect the wall and provide an estimate for repair. Today, Saturday, MCC owner, Larry, said he will not be coking to my home as he was told by Rick at Team Pest USA to only replace the damaged flooring plank in the photo. He said he had no notes about any walls, despite the photos. Team Pest USA stopped responding to emails or calls. They are not honoring their agreement.

For example, he explained that even though I'm near a creek and woods, there's no stagnant water and no greenery around my house itself other than grass and a few small shrubs...so we shouldn't worry too much about mosquito prevention unless or until I was bothered by mosquitoes. Two hot summer months later, I can tell you he's right...I've seen barely a 'skeeter so there was indeed no need for chemicals to ward them off. Whew!!! What a relief because those things love my sweet and tasty self. We discussed termite prevention and he educated me about why, if I'm going to spend on a treatment, I'll want a moisture barrier in my crawlspace to support that effort. He pointed out the challenges and perils of the fact that my previous owner left a tree stump in the crawlspace rather than remove it before constructing an addition. (Surprise surprise!) There was no pressure in buying from him during our time together; he truly was there to educate me as a new homeowner and new to the area, on his professional assessment of my needs. We spent adequate time discussing and there was no rush; he answered all my questions and offered some solid advice (such as keeping a bug journal of what I see, when and where, to discuss with him during regular quarterly visits) that would build a foundation for our work together in caring for my home. Based on the date of the last big treatment of my (wood construction, wood siding) residence, we agreed it would be best to do a large initial preventive treatment with a 5-year lifespan. His cost was several hundred dollars less than the 'big box' companies and, as a family-owned operation, I knew I was getting the benefit of not just Chris's knowledge but also one generation above if he bounced things off his Dad (which...who doesn't ask Dad for advice if they love and respect their Dad? Also a good sign of a stand-up guy!) Chris was fast, responsive, and made it easy for me to hire and pay him. He is good at communicating by phone or email or text and accepts all forms of payment, including cash, checks and PayPal as payment methods, for those of us who like the more modern electronic methods. I get real peace of mind knowing that I have an ethical, hard-working business owner who cares about his personal reputation in the local community, on my side in helping me care for my new home. It was 2 A.M and I was researching pest control companies (knowing that I had to get up at 4 A.M.) and perused Calvin's yelp reviews! We made the appointment for the same day and lets just say that he has "earned" a lifelong customer. Now, let me tell you about my service experience. At the appointed time, Calvin and his crew arrived and they are a handsome bunch so I now had excellent service and eye candy to add to the collection of professional experiences. Moving on, Calvin's team blew and inspected my garage so it was sparkling clean AND treated for pests. They used sustainable bug repellent outside my home, which smelled really good in the autumn wind. Ok, so if the presentation, professionalism wasn't enough... Lets move on to the educational experience and what exactly cemented my understanding that I can never have another exterminator take care of my place. Calvin illuminated areas that existed that I was not aware of. He pulled out my stove, my refrigerator, and shined the cool light that he had light attached to his forehead so that I could see what was really going on behind my appliances. He cleaned and sealed the holes and this was more than any other exterminator had ever done.
