Keep in mind, we weren't protesting police brutality so they didn't have to get all dolled up in riot gear. We were protesting poverty and financial abuses of the system to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. We had done several peaceful protests so they knew what to expect from us. Don't make the mistake of thinking they're not aware of everything that's going on in their city. West Pasco County is laden with Ring cameras. When people case neighborhoods, residents just call the station and a detective checks all the ring videos in the area. There is only ONE thing I will warn you about. DO NOT speed down US19 if you're traveling around New Port Richey. The State Police have unmarked cars from drug busts and they are VERY sensitive about people speeding in that area. They know everyone speeds there so if they're trying to get their quota out of the way, you will be their snack. I don't know about the West Pasco State Police, but the State Police on the east coast of Florida is corrupt as heck.

The Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce provides information and resources to those living in the community and to visitors. One of their most important jobs is tourism promotion. The Chamber of Commerce is the catalyst for economic prosperity by contributing to the well-being of both the business community and the broader local community. My friend and I recently had the chance to stop in to the Chamber of Commerce during a recent trip to Tarpon Springs for the Epiphany. Even though they weren't officially open they were gracious enough to provide much needed information about the event as we were first time visitors to it. Inside the welcoming center were baskets of free sunblock, luggage tags, and fans. There were also many maps and brochures for area attractions. I found out about a monthly $7 lighthouse tour that I would love to come back for someday. It is free in May if you are a mom. They also promote events, festivals, and concerts in the city. My friend was able to purchase inexpensive postcards and an art poster. Their hours are limited to weekdays instead of weekends when most people would visit but if they are open it is worth stopping by to see what is going on in Tarpon Springs.

Today, while wandering Main street with my mom, we decided to stop in and see what was going on... They were having a local artist show, where the community judged the art, and they would have a reception this evening - it had been going on all month. The community favorite would be announced over wine and noshes. There were bits and bobs for sale, pieces of art on the walls and in cases. I was immediately drawn to on case where I saw a beautiful pendant, a heart shaped piece, that had a mermaid looking off into a multi colored sea. Bought it. Bought a ring made from a spoon handle as well, with the word INSPIRE stamped in it, and a former scrabble tile that had lived it's life, and now given new meaning as a necklace, with a quote from "Alice in Wonderland" it reads "We're all mad Here" I like this place, I'll come back just to see what new goodies the artists come up with.

This last time I had a confirmed 8:45 am appt for my husband's passport and was waiting patiently in line. I have severe back injury that makes my left leg feel as if it is on fire when I stand for too long so I made sure to make an appt to accommodate that. A wealthy looking women with her children walked in after us and the worker David asked them do they have an appt. They said yes 9am he said when is your appt. I said 8:45. He said I dont even have that appt written down here. I said I have proof confirmation on my phone. He made my husband run out to car to get my proof. I showed him the confirmation on my phone and he continued to argue with me saying he doesnt have it. Then he proceeded to take the woman who had an appt after mine before me. I pleaded with him stating I have a disability and am in alot of pain right now. By this time it felt like I was standing on broken glass and my whole leg was on fire. He continued to take the rich looking women and her family infront of me. The manager watched the whole thing transpire and didnt say a thing to help the situation. Clearly the worker David and his manager cater to rich people at this establishment and dont honor appts made. I feel discriminated against to be completely honest. Finally after waiting a while longer Seamus came to my rescue and started our passport application I am soo disappointed that people still treat disabled people like this in 2026. I definitely wasnt dressed up to run an errand I was wearing leggings and a T shirt. I guess normal people dont matter here only the rich locals.
