We thought when we hired this company that we were spending extra money but it would be worth it to get the job done and get it done well. Boy were we wrong! From the very beginning, we had issues which is why we had to fire them. 1) The drawings that you pay 5K for aren't actual drawings-its just a picture! 2) The drawings showed two fences on the sides of the back yard, but the bid only included one...which they let us know once one fence was already installed. 3) A chainlink fence we installed only went 3/4 of the way across the yard because that is all that was included in the bid! Again, we learned that it was too short after the fact and that we were supposed to pay an upcharge to have it go all the way across. 4) The design they had for the BBQ doesn't work and we had to relocate it to another area. 5) Their partial billing system is beyond annoying and over the top. 6) They talked us out of the pool deck we really wanted and put in pavers that we hated. They kept telling us they would look different after they dried, after the were cleaned, etc. We ended up tearing them out. The problem is they only provided one paver instead of many as a sample. I thought I was clear about the look we were going for but they just didn't get it. 7) But our biggest gripe (and that's saying alot!) is they did a bio retention basin in our back yard and it has never passed inspection. They assured us that they would make that happen but never did. We now have to pay our GC additional money because Clearview does not appear to know how to make inspections happen. In fact, we have had to pay to have that basin inspected a ridiculous amount of times. We finally decided they were never gonna pass inspection which is why I am writing this review. I do not recommend this company if you have a substantial project or any permits involved. I say that from a calm, thoughtful, responsive energy where I want to look out for potential customers. They cost us a lot of needless time and money.... even suffering! They don't listen to clients and they are not accountable for anything they do or don't do. In fact, at one meeting the owner Chris told me to stop complaining about the price of the project because it was distracting and not helpful! These are not guys you want to work with. Would recommend! Chris and the Clearview team did an excellent job on our project start to finish. We didn't just need a drought resistant backyard that looked great, we also needed it to function properly in the long run. We worked directly with Chris and his team in formulating a plan to eradicate gophers and weeds as well as create proper drainage. They intentionally graded and sloped the yard to direct water to the French drain that they installed. We also requested weed mat and gopher wire throughout the entire yard. The process is meticulously thought out and planned before even breaking ground which helped prevent unnecessary mistakes and confusion. In summary, we're very happy with the final product! The gophers are gone, there are no weeds and excess water is being directed where we want. We had a complicated project to underground a streetlight wire and prepare for an underground conduit, meter and base for a new streetlight in accordance with strict SB planning and SCE requirements. Chris Hulme and Kevin Downs with Clearview were up for the task. Their competent employees dug a three foot ditch filled with rocks/boulders from the back of our yard to the street. They completed it and it was approved immediately with no corrections. Huge task. Chris also spoke with and informed neighbors. This took that stress off of us. These pictures don't express how beautiful their stonework for this project was as well. It's outstanding and we are enjoying all the compliments. They also created a beautiful wooden staircase on the other side of our yard that is now the showcase as you enter our driveway. Five stars for these guys. Never in my life have I been cheated by a business so badly. I feel like I have been swindled for THOUSANDS of dollars and taken for granted by Clearview, and I'm here to warn you from bringing your business to them. They were very humble and warm when they first consulted me, but once I signed on as a client, I was repeatedly ghosted and disregarded by their staff. It took 6-7 consecutive emails to get a single (and quite rude) response from them. They did a really slow job and elongated their entire process needlessly. After 3 weeks of work, they started billing invoices; their work progress and flow didn't match the payments we begrudgingly made. What was mentioned in the contract was totally sidestepped and they charged an extra 35% over my budget for incomplete and absolutely shoddy work. They had an estimate for the price and time frame and completely disrespected their own contractual obligations. It took a LOT of work on my end to have them finish their work MANY weeks after the deadline. Their project manager was an extremely rude man and had the audacity to talk down to me when I asked him why there wasn't any clear progress. I had a pond made in our backyard, which feels less like a pond and more like a foot spa pool. There's a massive leakage and we need to get it remade because the pond is not even deeper than a foot. I had to call an outside specialist (a man who had worked on my previous ponds) come to consult with them. Their staff said everything was fine, but my specialist said they did a horrible job and have to redo piping and adjust the pond depth. When we contacted them to follow up on these issues, they ghosted us (even after multiple threats that we will be taking legal action) and refuse to fix their mess-ups. The quality of work has been abysmal and I am extremely disappointed that I was charged a six figure fee (the job was supposed to be $135k and they charged $185k + extra material costs) for incomplete and unacceptable work. They would charge consistent hourly fees for the supervisor, project manager, designers, and the owner, who were hardly even present for the entire duration of the project. They even left their equipment in the back yard on multiple occasions when it wasn't even integral to the project, and charged heavy overnight equipment fees. Violation of contract, rude and callous behavior from their staff, and just a total scam that they're running has made me write this to warn all of you to take your business elsewhere. We, the local community members of Santa Barbara like to support local businesses, and the last 20 years have brought forth great experiences. However, truly be wary of this company as they have given us the worst customer service experience of a lifetime. read more

I was impressed by the ratings on Yelp and decided to request a quote for my brand new home's backyard. I got a call from Chris next day and it was one of the worst customer service experince I had over the phone. Chris opened the conversation with "I've seen and spoken with some of the home owners in your area. We are probably outside of your price range". Without meeting me, seeing and measuring the project, he gave me a price of at least 10K. Without knowing my budget, he assumed that was outside of my price range. For my backyard, I really wanted a cool mid-century modern look, to go with my house's original style, which we are trying to restore. This was tough, because Chris, the owner, had never done a mid-mod yard before, and it took a lot of communication to fully convey what I wanted, but he was up for the challenge, and the finished product is amazing! I called 4 companies to get quotes for the installation of Front Lawn with irrigation system... Clear View was the first to call back and arrived the very next morning to discuss the plans. Chris was very polite and was open to any and all ideas i had. We hired Clearview to design and install a flagstone patio, and to address some drainage concerns in advance of the "Godzilla El Nino" that everyone is abuzz about. Chris was our primary contact, and he created and executed the eventual design. The pre-existing space was a combination of a poured concrete slab, a dirt garden area with sickly plants, and brick pavers. Clearview originally estimated that the project, including demolition, installation, and clean-up would take 7-8 days. Instead, the bulk of the work took just under two weeks. Clearview removed the pre-existing patio and hauled it away. They put it rebar and poured a new concrete pad for the flagstones. They custom-cut the flagstone, arranged the pieces, evened out the grout lines, and mudded and grouted in the flagstones. Clearview also cut and plastered new drainage openings; our patio is walled in on all four sides, with a swinging gate. Clearview then re-routed a downspout that originally emptied onto the patio to the side of the home. The work turned out looking very professional and clean. There were two slight hiccups: due to surprise rain and a significant amount of moisture that ended up trapped beneath the flagstones, the stones took a very long time to dry completely after installation. In the end, we had to wait almost a month after the project started for the stone sealer to be added so that we could use the patio. Second, our house is designed to be ADA compliant/handicapped-accessible. There was a concrete ramp leading up to the old patio, so that a person using a wheelchair could roll up onto the patio. We asked Clearview to ensure that the ramp was still usable on the final project. Unfortunately, the elevation of the completed redone patio is such that the ramp no longer reaches the patio deck, and we will have to contract for a new ramp. This is a minor quibble. Our primary criterion was whether in the end we would have a space that we would feel comfortable using and living in every day; in that, Clearview succeeded marvelously. The old patio was an unpleasant, dirty place. The new patio is a new room added onto our home - only without a roof. The stones are level, arranged beautifully, evenly spaced, and pleasant to walk on. Our drainage concerns appear to have been resolved - either way I will update if the winter is all its cracked up to be! We are very happy with Clearview and Chris, and we would recommend them for any similar project. read more

First of all, I would like to commend the excellent customer service from beginning to end. Their office staff was knowledgeable, and I was able to talk to the owner himself within minutes. Less than an hour later, he was at my home doing and inspection. They advertise several services, and Chris (Owner) was able to simplify them into what my priorities were in relationship to my budget. They are not cheap, but as a 25 year Santa Barbara resident, I feel like they provide the most value for the money, and truly have the customers best interest at the forefront. There was no pressure in the sales side, all the technicians were fluent English speakers and I never had to repeat a question nor a request. They followed up after a couple of days, and had a casual conversation regarding my satisfaction. By the end of the conversation, I had scheduled several more days of services. It is SO rare to see great genuine customer care, immpecable manners and quality of work, and absolutely above board in all aspects of billing--NO SURPRISES!
