My favorite part is the "Loop" course. It is a 3-hole Par 3 course with 3 different tees, so you can play it as a 9 hole course if you wish. You get the experience and fun of a golf course, but you don't need a tee time, you don't need to make a foursome, and you can play as much or as little of it as you like. It's perfect for someone who either has a tight schedule or likes to golf on the spur of the moment. You will also find two driving range areas with unlimited range balls, a chipping area, and a few putting greens. They also have some of those things indoors too if the weather gets rainy or too cold, but I haven't really checked that out yet since they weather has been so great. Even if you're considering joining, I would encourage you to take a tour of the place. Sometimes they have membership specials and you will find that joining here for a year is a lot cheaper than a membership at every other golf course in the area. It also has many advantages that other courses can't offer.

We kept perfect pace on the front 9, allowing maximum 10 minutes per hole (tee times are spaced 10 min apart, so group behind shouldn't be on us, right?). Get to the turn, Marshall immediately stops us and is very rude about not allowing 5 players and instead wanted us to split up into a 3 and 2. The group behind us was just teeing off as we were pulling up to the 10th tee, so the Marshall could clearly see that we were not holding anybody up. If that was the case, we would let them play through. After trying to reason with the Marshall that staying as a 5-some (which we were told twice we were allowed to do), we were forced to split into a 3 and 2 or had to leave. Wouldn't that just slow down the pace now an "extra" group is playing? Also, the group behind us apparently tee'd off 30 minutes early according to the nice girl in the pro shop, so if the Marshall was so bent up about pace of play and running the course, maybe make sure that groups go when they are supposed to. Overall, the course was fun for a par 3, greens were punched and very sandy, but no complaint there since that's typical this time of year.

It is a well designed layout with challenging greens and nice views. It is in nice condition and a pleasure to play. The greens throughout are undulating and many are tiered. Though they are all large and maybe easy to hit to where you land on the green can make a huge difference to your score. My putting stats took a serious hit after this round! Also, this is not a walking Par 3. It is extremely hilly with lots of ups and downs between tee boxes. Though I prefer to walk I would not do that here.

You can bring a volleyball to use at the net, or bring a picnic and enjoy the view from the covered pavilion with tables galore. The playground itself has a good amount of options for both big and little kids to explore, with bridges, poles, climbing areas, slides of differing sizes, etc. There is a separate swing area that has a few baby swings, a few normal swings, and then one of those ADA accessible plastic swings, with the bars that go over your shoulders like on a roller coaster ride. There was an abundance of standing water between the playground and pavilion and it hasn't rained particularly hard for awhile, so I can't imagine how soggy the playground and deep the water gets after stronger rains. You also need to pay very close attention to your young ones due to unobstructed/unrestricted access to the water very close by. So, if you have multiple kids to keep track of and/or a runner, you may want to bring an additional adult or skip this one.

After driving around, we came across the playground area that also displayed Alex Healy's statue. He is the author of "Roots." It's a lovely statue of him and it's really big! There is no graffiti or damages to his statue, which is always a good thing! There is a lovely playground next to it and it has lots of things for kids to do! There are swings and slides and monkey bars for them to use. There isn't any shade in that area, which is a bummer so make sure you keep cool with an umbrella, sunglasses, and water! There is parking on the street above on Dandridge St.

Saturday July 12, 2014...I took a One Day road trip from Nashville with my hubby Tony and daughter…read moreNoel and we opted to head towards KNOXVILLE..our goal is too see as much of the city as possible on our ONE DAY mini vacation ...on a budget...My goal was a family of 3 to have fun on $150 or less...so the drive from Nashville took us 3 hrs one way.. We located Morningside Park quite easily off Dandridge Ave..I just plugged the directions in to my Google Maps app on my android and Gertrude (the name of my phone) guided us there quickly from our luncheon off Central Ave. We went strictly to see the Alex Haley statue located there in the Haley Heritage Square. This park is large and the entire area is FREE. We found parking easily and entered into the area of the park where the Statue is located. It is very nice but remember on a HOT SUNNY day, like today..Don't touch the statue YOU WILL GET BURNED...just a little FYI in case you wanted to climb on it for a photo or put a small child near it for a photo opportunity..just be careful it will BURN YOU or THEM... I was surprised to learn that my 18 yr old daughter has NEVER SEEN the ROOTS SAGA...I am a bad mommy..I have to make sure she sees it and soon!!! IT is a terrific Story of a True family that needs to be heard.. If you are in the area visiting Knoxville, put this Wonderful FREE site on your MUST DO LIST...and enjoy...the park is nice and set up for picnicking if you choose..
