Lakeshore is a wonderful public park situated along the Tennessee River and offering some…read morespectacular views of the Smoky Mountains. I finally got a chance to come here with my neighbor and her toddler on a weekday and I was surprised how many kids were at the playground. However, we never felt crowded here and there are several playgrounds in the park, with one being in a slightly wooded section. Besides children's playgrounds, the park offers extensive greenways, sports facilities, and even, event spaces. Sports facilities include: baseball/softball fields, soccer field and an outdoor fitness center. On my next visit, I'm going to explore even more of the greenways and try to find the steel sculpture in the park called the "Quantum Embrace." Know before you go: 1) Lakeshore is open daily: 6 am - 10 pm 2) Plenty of parking spaces 3) There are public restrooms onsite 4) Events at the park hosted by the Roots & Revelry Group. Some events coming up are Paint & Sip (April 28th) and Mahjong in Garden (May 12th)

They have bathrooms but were all closed up where I went. I asked a local business if they are just open during summer and they said it actually just re-opened last summer. I asked if the rumor of dead bodies was true and they said that yes there were lots of dead bodies found here from jumping off the rocks or getting stuck in the rocks deep down below. But anyways, on the opposite side of the story.. there are plenty of floating docks for people to chill on during summer. Just sitting there listening to the bird was very peaceful.. gorgeous view.

It's well maintained in the most part (one fallen tree but nothing too difficult to get around). A good effort at making a viable greenway by the Knoxville City Government. At the western…read moreterminus, which is in a corner of the AMC Theater parking lot, one crosses a substantial bridge over Ten Mile Creek and then underneath 6 lanes of I-40/I-75 before entering Ten Mile Greenway Park. The first road crossing is at Bridgewater Rd. which happens to be at a three-way stop, so it's convenient for crossing. From there, the greenway is part of Walker Springs Park which takes you away from traffic noise. There is evidence, however, of encampments in the way of trash and discarded clothes and shelter - and shopping carts. The greenway goes under two more roads before joining with the Jean Teague Greenway (at Winston Road) which takes you through West Hills Park and terminates at West Hills Elementary school at Vanosdale Road. There is NO WAY TO GET DOWNTOWN without traveling surface roads for a few miles before you get to Third Creek Greenway.

The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

Dirt roads. Some way off the beaten path, for those who wanna make it a little hard, climb up some rock stairs. It was really fun. It was quite an adventure. More than I have had in a nature center in a while. I stopped at the gift center, which was very quaint. I love the little stones they had. It was a bag of them for six dollars I believe. The quality of the tumbled stones seemed very nice as well for such a price. I would definitely go back to this area and visit once more if I happen to be here on vacation!

It is home to iconic landmarks like the Sunsphere, a 266-foot gold-domed observation tower, and the Tennessee Amphitheater. Today, the park serves as a hub for major festivals, community gatherings, and recreation. Very welcoming space, lots to enjoy, always busy! The sphere is a focal point, when you go through Knoxville on I-40.

Today, the park is a beautiful green space for residents and visitors. The Sunsphere and the Amphitheater are the only remaining structures from the World's Fair in the park. The Sunsphere is opened to visitors. The Amphitheater was shuttered for the winter and in need of a facelift. Several interesting architectural features (posts and statue) are located throughout the park. A colorful bridge passes over the park and waterway. The Park is filled with accessible walkways, a water feature/fountain. A rail trail passes through the park for walkers and runners. We found free parking at the south side of the park. I did not see restroom facilities. Dogs on leases are allowed everywhere except in the fountain area.
