I got gel nails done while on vacation in Vietnam and was desperate to get them removed a month later when I was back in the States. Every spot I had gone to/tried to go to said no to doing the gel removal or simply would not respond to my calls/messages. It had become such an inconvenience and I was ready to give up hope until a friend recommended Clayton Nail Spa (spoiler alert -- they did the dang job). I did a walk-in around 2 PM on a Sunday and I received service within 5 minutes. They have a full staff that is really on their A-game all the time (I was there for almost 2 hours and paid attention to their workflow). They seem to have a handful of regulars and are really polite to clients (I witnessed a girly unload her entire life story onto a worker, unprompted, and the staff respectfully let her talk at them the entire time). The lady who worked on my nails was very sweet and chatted with me the entire time, explaining what she was doing and why. She really went above and beyond with removing the gel nails as carefully as possible, offering to do additional services and not pushing when I said no, and meticulously grooming my cuticles and buffing my skin. The pricing was fair and she was very transparent about the cost of each service before getting started. I'm not a big nail salon person because I'm quite frugal about these matters, but I would absolutely come back here for any nail service needs in the future. read more

This was such an amazing experience! I accidentally went to the wrong location (I had an appointment for another Clayton Nail Spa location) but they took my friend and I in anyways. They really took their time to perfect our nails and I felt very taken care of. This was the first time I've ever gotten my nails done and I definitely want to go back eventually. I am so happy with them. The nail artists know what they are doing! They're very skilled. The salon itself is great too, there were TVs for entertainment and the chairs were comfortable. I got a full acrylic set with nail art and my total was $90. My nails are in no pain at all and they feel strong. First time customer, came in with a warm welcoming. requesting a pedi and full set. I was escorted by an olde lady for my pedi. No hello or how are you. During my pedicure as she was trying to shape my toes my toes were uneven. Not matching with my other toes. I let her know that, asking her to cut down more and more to make it even. She acted as if she didn't see that they were uneven therefore I had to ask her to have someone else come take over or explain to her what I was saying. After I was seated for my full set. Don't know her name but she is the manager and sits in the 2nd section in the nail salon. She asked what I would like which I was still indecisive about but at first I thought I wanted more of a duck and square looks but then I just went with short square. As she starts gluing the nails on, ask if it would be too late to ask for stiletto. She was very kind at first and let me know that it wasn't too late and I voiced to her that I'm trying to see which one between those 2. she let me know that the stiletto would have to be long and she would show me as she started cutting one nail and shaping it. I made up my mind to stick with short square. She looked at me and made a face as if she just shaped my whole hand and have to reapply new nails. After that, she handled my hand very aggressively and rough as if she was upset. I didn't say anything in that moment but I did eventually ask if she was the owner, she let me know she was the manger and if everything was okay. I then let her know that it just seems like she rushing and she said no this is just how she works. After that in she proceeded to handle my hands with care and gentile. I was not happy with my experience, they treated me like I was not a returning customer until I spoke up and that's when they started to act professional. I've been coming to this salon for 5 years (specifically the clayton rd location) and have always loved the service--especially from Leo, who does amazing work. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was incredibly disappointing and frustrating. I had an appointment scheduled online and made sure to let them know that it was fine for anyone to do my nails. But when I arrived, the technician told me my usual guy wasn't there and I should come back another day--even though I had booked ahead (I was leaving for vacation the next morning). Then she said, "You won't like them if I do them," which was extremely off-putting. To make things worse, I had booked a manicure along with my service for dip nails but she told me there wasn't time to do it, they were too busy however there was a total of 4 customers in the salon and no one waiting. The tech offered to pawn me off to someone else for my manicure but at this point I was upset and just wanted to get out of there. This was the worst mani/pedi experience I've ever had. The first woman left cuticle skin rough - did not use instrument to push cuticles back. Application of polish was sloppy with polish pooled in nail bed/cuticles. When I pointed this out, she took the grinder which also grounded my nail beds. I pointed this out to the person who seemed to be in charge. Next person was better but after 4 days, gel is pealing off already. The pedi was done by some guy who obviously had not done one before. He had no idea you use acetone & foil first. I called someone for help. I would have left but it was my only chance to get them done for evening. They would get 5 stars for quality but 0 for listening to the customer. Went in for birthday nails and a pedicure. Messaged ahead of time to make sure my design would not be an issue. Apparently, it was. I wanted dip nails, and the girl pressured me into gel x because she wanted "to make my birthday nails look nice. I'm pretty sure it was code, for I can't do coffin shaped nails. So she cut off my nails and put a massive c curve full tips on my flat nails. My fingers have ached since I left as the nails are pulling my nail beds out of shape. Then I had to tell her several times what I wanted and watch to make sure she was not changing it to make it look better to her. I have cute nails that are close to what I want but not what they should have been. $200 was my total, and I am pretty sure they skipped steps for my deluxe manicure since she had her next appt waiting. It will be my first and last visit here. It is a shame since the work appears to be good. Just wish they would do what the customer asks for and not guilt or pressure them into what they think will look better. Admit when you can't fulfill a request. I would have gone somewhere that could do a coffin shape on dip nails to have what I wanted for my nails I brought in my own charms and dipping powder she did not want to use. I custom blend the color I want using 4 powders. So I know what I want and what I like to look at. The nails are nice but not nice enough for all 10 fingers to ache 5 hours later. This is more of a 3.5 star rating for me but I'll round up for simplicity sake. I recently relocated here and this is the first nail salon I visited after searching online and reading reveiws. Being able to book appointments online is crucial to me so the fact that Clayton Nail Spa offers that was a huge plus - the only downside is that they do not offer same day appointments online, you have to call the salon to do that (which I've never done). I started out getting the basic pedicure but have recently started getting their deluxe pedi because it's just a few dollars more for what seems to be a sizeable upgrade in the pampering.. and I'm all about the pampering! Alpine snow is my go to pedi color all year around and I'm happy this salon carries that shade of white. So, why the deduction in stars, you might ask. Well, this last time I made an appointment and was disappointed when I had to wait 12 minutes before being taken to a chair and this occurred only after I gently reminded the staff that I did, in fact, make an appointment. My gripe is that if you have patrons making appointments, their appointment times should be prioritized. There were plenty of empty pedicure stations when I arrived and while there may not have been enough nail techs to go around, I could've been easily appeased by just having my toes soaking in hot water. Long story short, don't treat your appointment makers like walk-ins! Prices are a little higher than what I'm used to paying but seem on par with what competitors in the city charge. I can't say I've built rapport with any of the staff but it does appear that they know their regulars well. Debated on whether or not I should post this review--I previously really liked this nail salon, they normally are great and I've been here many times! I got my gel acrylics taken off on Wednesday and even though it was supposed to be a soak off, the girl did NOT do any sort of soaking. She used a plastic nail tip, shoved it in between my real nail and the extension, and literally forced the acrylics off of my nails, doing extreme damage to my nails. It was the most painful experience I've had and I was literally bleeding from two nails. I was so scared she was ripping my real nails off my fingers it felt like torture. Today I'm only bleeding from one nail, the ring finger on my left hand, and it's sort of scabbing over. I told her what she was doing hurt and she kept going. It felt really barbaric and unprofessional and I can't imagine coming back to a place that made me bleed visibly and didn't even apologize. Where to begin... I came here with my friend to get a gel manicure and a regular manicure. We had appointments but it was very busy so we waited a bit for our appointment. No problem, I totally get it. The salon also smells VERY strongly of acetone/chemicals. We sit down and the tech doing my nails was very rushed, I had gel from a previous manicure on and she drilled it off (not my favorite but fine). The shaping was inconsistent and she kept getting up to answer the phone and do some random other nail fixes. My friend's nails were uneven and got messed up a few days later, the regular polish lasted maybe 2 days and she was very unhappy. It also wasn't cheap for the work that was done and how busy and rushed they were. The worst part was the actual work she did. The tech did maybe 6 or so coats of thick gel color on my nails so it was really gooey and uneven. I went to another salon a month later to get a gel manicure and it took the tech AN HOUR to remove my gel. The crazy thing was it was so thick, there was wet gel that hadn't cured in the deeper layers! It was just really bad work and I felt like my nails suffered because of it. This place got me in quick but it was very dirty inside. The chair I sat in was broken and sunk in the back so was very uncomfortable to sit for a pedicure. They charge $5 more for a certain brand of Polish which I had never even heard of that brand. They were more interested in chatting than doing there job. I moved here from Chicago and this is the best nail salon I've found, absolutely love it. I have tried others just because this is an hour drive for me but I keep coming back. My favorite things: 1. Convenient. You can usually park in their lot and if not street parking is easily accessible and cheap. They accommodate walk-ins better than any other salon I've been to. They do good work and they are fast. I've had a million different techs and I've never had a bad mani or pedi here. They can do my dip nails and gel pedicure within an hour and a half usually! 2. When I went to go back to get them fixed, the person who did my nails drilled too hard into my nails leaving a dent. My nails now feel very damaged and are painful. I am extremely appreciative of Clayton nails. When my toe nails smudged an hour after my appointment, they were completely willing to fix it the next day. I had read the stellar reviews of this nail salon and knew it was the place to try in St. Louis. When I arrived to the salon, I was weary of having a complete gel manicure as I just had a manicure two weeks prior, and only a couple of nails were slightly chipped. The manager recommended that I do a gel polish change for a cheaper price. I was extremely pleased and have never seen this as an option at other nail salons. The lady who did my nails was extremely attentive and meticulous to the shape of my nails and residue polish on my skin. She found the OPI nail color I was looking for on my hands, and I love how it turned out! For my gel polish change, I tried out OPI's Taupe-Less. First and only time here. Visiting St. Louis for work. Definitely make an appointment, they're super busy. I asked for a gel full set and they charged $44. The experience here was a little different than most of my experiences at nail salons. Usually your nail bed is shaved down, then they check to make the tip is correct size before applying the crazy glue and cutting it and then they buff it so it's smooth with your jail bed then apply acrylic powder and then shape. At this place, she applied the crazy glue on my nail bed first and then put the tip on and she didn't buff after she applied the tip. I mentioned this and the manager? Tracy said it was done and that it was smooth. I said ok, it's just different from my usual experiences. She ended up taking over and the shape of my nails aren't completely straight. Some edges are more curved than the other. While Tracy took over, the other girl said it was her FIRST day at this salon which made me feel bad. I was in town for a wedding over the weekend and came here to get a full dip set for a wedding, and she refused to do the dip nails after I sat down. She first said that my nail beds were flat and she couldn't do the dip which I said I've had my nails dipped before and no one's ever said that to me. As she was using dip to bridge the seam of the nail extension, she then said that she couldn't build the nail up. Then she said she didn't feel comfortable because the dip doesn't last as long as acrylic and she would rather do acrylic and she didn't want to do something that wasn't going to last long. She had mentioned this before and as someone who has had dips that lasted at least two weeks I was really frustrated and just came to get my nails done. I had also expressed to her, I'm getting them done for the weekend and honestly I didn't really care how long they lasted, my event was Saturday. As a last ditch effort, she kept saying how she didn't really feel comfortable and how the acrylic would be much quicker. I have had one full set of acrylics and I didn't care for the fumes but I was really over it so I let her do the acrylic. The acrylic ended up being a gel polish. She was done in about 15 min. One of my nails was crooked but over all they were fine but not what I wanted. I don't think she wanted to do the dip nails because it takes longer and she was trying to rush me out. Don't lie to me and make up excuses because you don't want to do something and if you don't wanna do it, have someone else do it. I genuinely wished I hadn't tipped her as well because she didn't deserve it. She should have done what I asked or had me wait for an available person if she didn't want to do it. I decided that I would finally try a pedi because my heels were so dry. I have never had one done before. This is because I had several terrible accidents with my feet, ankles and legs - the long and short of it is that I have hyper sensitivity so any pressure or pain is amplified. I was hoping I could explain my situation to to the tech. So basically no foot and leg massages and I am not fond of painting my nails - so that was not needed. When making my appointment I did add all this to the comments section. So I walked in just in time for my appointment. From the beginning, I did not get a warm feeling. They seemed confused and scrambled to look my appointment up then clapped at me to wash my hands. I had to look around to figure out where to go as I had never been there before. Then I was told to go sit up front and wait. (We are now 5 mins past my appointment start time.) Within 5 or so minutes more I was directed all the way back to the back of the salon. I sat in the chair pointed at by the tech. She appeared to speak no English whatsoever. Great! As soon as I sat down she signaled for me to put my feet in the basin. I started to speak with her to explain my unique situation. She looked at me completely puzzled and handed my the menu to select my service. Now I am confused...did no one tell her what it said in the comments section for my appointment. At this point it was pretty clear the answer was no. She put the chair massager on high and it started hurting my back, the water she was putting into the basin was scalding and I had absolutely no clue what was going on. I was so uncomfortable. Then there was an issue with parking - but that had nothing to do with the service so we wont go into that. I now figured out how to turn of the chair and managed to get the tech to add some cold water to the basin. I honestly just wanted to leave. So the tech started work on my feet. It was going ok. The nails, then the dry areas on heels and so on. So this is when things got super weird. She was doing to the little clipping and on my left big toe she clipped the side of my nail, peeled it toward my leg to my cuticle then pulled it out. The pain put tears in my eyes. I started bleeding. Then she took what she tore out of me and stuck it on the top of my foot and looked at me and nodded with some sort of twisted satisfaction. Then she began roll it around the top of my foot...WTF??? THEN she picked it off and stuck it my hand when I went down to wipe it off...I said where is your trash can? I was uncomfortable, pissed and hurting. She squeezed a glob of neosporin on my toe and continued. She started massaging my feet and legs. I kept telling her to stop. No go. I was done. I got up paid my bill and left. My feet were so red and sore I could hardly walk. I will NEVER do this again ESPECIALLY here. This tech should not be allowed to work with customers. What she did was crazy weird and so beyond anything I have ever seen. My suggestion - go elsewhere or do it yourself. read more
