I recently bought an engagement ring from the Clawson Jewelers and I thought I should share the experience for any of you soon-to-take-the-plunge guys out there looking for insights. On solid recommendation I looked into James Allen and found something really close to what I was looking for, knowing the design of the setting that my girl wanted. I will say that the prices on James Allen are really competitive and their settings are beautiful. But, if you're looking for a little more face-to-face customer service where someone can walk you through the whole process, I'd recommend starting at the Clawson Jewelers. FYI, they also specialize in custom designed settings. When I first walked in I told them why I was there and they teamed me up with Joe . He is wonderful...ask for him, and tell him I said hello! We walked over to the showcase and the EXACT setting I was looking for was sitting right in front of me. Joe asked me if I had time to look at some diamonds under the microscope while we discussed all the nuances of the stones. I left there with a ton of info and several things to think over, and I NEVER felt pressured. The whole experience was enjoyable. I called Joe later and made another appointment to move forward. At that appointment, I picked my diamond after looking at each under magnification and finally chose what I wanted from the several. Joe took me outside with the setting and the diamond to see what it looked like in the daylight and again, I didn't feel pressured. I chose my diamond and he told me it would be a couple days unless I absolutely needed it right then. Mind you, it was prime engagement season so I knew she was busy but still very accommodating. They offer free sizing, beyond the chosen delivery size, they clean your ring whenever you'd like, and they appraise your piece and present it in a nice book upon delivery, for insurance purposes. They also stand behind their work and will buy the diamonds back at the same price they sold them to you if/when you choose to upgrade. They also allow you around 30 days to present the ring and should you strike out and need to return it, they can accommodate you. I think they've made a customer for life. I'd highly recommend at least meeting with a jeweler here if you're in the market! read more

I called Clawson Jewelers looking for an extension on a gold necklace I was given years ago. I called a few other jewelers and none had any in their stores, they referred me to their websites where I found a few but they did not look sturdy. The manager at Clawson Jewelers told me they would be happy to "make" one for me from chains they had in store, solder it closed to my necklace to ensure it strong and secure and quoted me an approximate price. Their price was similar to the ones I had found online. When I went in, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the manager there was from the former Chinn's Jewelers in Royal Oak, where my family and I had gone for years. I trusted Chinn's Jewelers and was sad to see them go out of business. I was treated very courteously at Clawson Jewelers and I believe fairly. I was told I would need a heavier link than they first thought, given the weight of my necklace and the sentimental charms on it (my children) and quoted a slightly higher cost. Given how much my necklace means to me, I was grateful for the concern for it's security. My extension was created for me as I waited and I was very happy to find what I needed at a fair price (actually, I think a very good value). The extension is beautiful (box link VS common round links) and looks very strong and secure- complimenting my beloved necklace. As I was waiting, I asked if they clean rings. Tracy the manager said yes. The same man that worked on my extension cleaned my wedding rings. He brought them back to me with a huge smile and said "I made them look like new". Recently had a wonderful experience with Joe (the owner) and Barb from Clawson Jewlers. Brought a pair of heirloom earrings in to have them turned into pendants to be worn as necklaces. Joe worked with me on the price and took in some other pieces on trade. I had shopped the work to several other local Jewlers (Minors den, and Dimond Jim's). Not only did Clawson Jewlers have the best price, but Joe took the time to explain the scope of the work without making me feel like a burden. We even shared personal stories about our love of dogs. We went back a couple of days later because we also needed to purchase chains for the pendants we were having created. Barb spent time with my fiance helping to choose the correct thickness and length of the chain. Barb even went as far as to remove her own personal necklace for us to examine because the thickness was exactly what we were looking for. Again, the price was less than we expected. I also believe several of the negative reviews on yelp are fake, made by fake profiles or other jewelers in the area. This is where my husband bought me a ring for our 10 year anniversary. We shopped around and felt best about Clawson Jewelers--other locations struck us as impersonal and all about making the sale, but we had the opposite experience here. Side note, some jewelers have an atmosphere of snobbery, as if your appearance dictates what service you receive... You will not find that attitude here; it's a comfortable environment. Joe walked us through our options based on what we told him we were looking for (and we started with vague ideas) and did his best to educate us on our options. Tracy, a very pleasant and personable woman, was excited with us and cared to remember the smaller details of what we were celebrating. She definitely made the experience more special. We felt it was important to them that we walk out happy, and we absolutely did. Overall the experience from start to finish was pleasant, easy, and quick. My new ring is perfect and I'm happy I got to support a local business I feel good about. I will recommend Clawson Jewelers to anyone looking for beautiful jewelry. I brought in my Rolex and Rado watches for service (re-sealing Rolex and battery for Rado), not only were they knowledgeable about the unique way to service these but I was charged a very fair price and the turnaround was within a week (took longer and cost more at other Jewelers). Next thing I know I'm pricing out princess cut diamond earrings and after stopping at a few other "big box jewelers" I called back and the owner ordered loose stones in for me and set an appointment for me when they were closed just to help accommodate. Never had service like that before let alone the knowledge they shared, two of my clients had previously been to Clawson Jewelers and had this kind of experience which is what prompted me to visit. Clawson Jewelers was the perfect solution for us. Tracy and Joe were fully committed to our satisfaction. My future wife and I went in with many pictures of rings showing aspects we liked and an approximate budget. With this input Tracy helped design a custom ring set more beautiful than any of the pictures we had brought. With a flexible timeline, Tracy called a while later with a couple main diamond options that could fit our needs. I went back and met with Tracy and Joe to choose the perfect diamond from the options that were gathered with us mind. I was also able to confirm the ring design through the mockup they had made. In short order the beautiful custom wedding and engagement ring set with my chosen diamond showed up. I am totally speechless after picking up necklaces that were made with earrings passed down to me from my dad that belonged to his mother. The work is absolutely stunning and the customer service that was offered from both Joe (the owner) and Barb was unlike any that we experienced from any other jewelry store.. We never felt like we were a bother with them even after touching base for updates a few times throughout the process. Fantastic Repairs! Took my vintage 1930's engagement ring in to be repaired, cracked in a few places. They used a fancy laser to do the work and the ring looks brand new. Even guaranteed the work for life! Was very impressed by how they handled things, professional and friendly. Even told me they would stay open late if I needed to pick things up after hours. Figured I'd mention that since others seem to have had trouble with hours... Will be taking all my business to them, and recommending whenever I can! read more

The worst experience in Clawson in my entire life! I ended up waiting 20 minutes for the police to show up with them assisting the thieves steal a 1/2" of 18k gold from my bracelet. The two dirty cops even tried to get me to sign the work order that was checked off as no work done. He continued to conspire with the rip off artists and refused to give me the work order number and my copy. The pattern of harassment from Oakland County crooked cops has officially spread to Clawson. read more

Tracy is a store manager, she makes me feel at home when I'm in the store and she has an excellent taste in jewelry. Good selection of Casio G-Shocks if you're a collector like me, and a surprising selection of unique men's rings and jewelry, including those cool silicone rings I've been thinking about getting whenever I get engaged.
