The cashier was busy at the front with a long line, so I tried again as instructed. Instead of calmly assisting me, she called someone from the back named Steve, who came out and immediately stood directly over me while I scanned my items. He was an extremely large man -- at least 6'3" and around 300 pounds -- and his presence felt intimidating and unnecessary, especially given the situation. He implied that I had not scanned an item, yet when he rescanned it himself, it scanned just fine. No apology was offered. What made this situation even more upsetting is that I had been waiting patiently while the cashier took an extended amount of time assisting two other customers, yet I was singled out and treated as suspicious. As a Black woman, this felt like clear racial profiling and intimidation. I did nothing wrong. I was attempting to pay. Being treated like a criminal over a malfunctioning self-checkout was humiliating and unacceptable. I will not be returning to this location, and I strongly advise others -- especially Black customers -- to be cautious.

He called me back 3 TIMES to say he overheard me and would now make me wait until the day of to fill my scripts, which he has done now repeatedly. He kept asking me "do you know who I am? I am the pharmacist! I don't have fill your scripts, I can make you wait for as long as I want!" Other pharmacists there fill the scripts and wonder why it is being held up. He is extremely rude and was so BEFORE I said what I said and I stand by what I said. He's terrible, petty and needs to go somewhere else, he makes the store look bad.

"Hi Aaron, I am sorry you felt the pharmacy was unwelcoming!"…read more - Of course I did. "We are more than happy to fill full profile transfers at our pharmacy at anytime everyday! At the encounter you stated you have medications filled at Shelby township and you only wanted one control substance prescription filled at the pharmacy, but wanted to keep everything else in Shelby township aside from the prescription you brought in." - This is absolutely incorrect. I handed you a prescription and said this is my first prescription in the neighborhood after moving there. I had no others to be filled as they were filled before I moved, weeks earlier. You did not ask me about transferring other prescriptions, at all. You asked me where I normally get prescriptions filled and I stated where. You told me I had to go back to "Shelby" to get this filled because you would be questioned, but did not explain why. We never spoke about me transferring other medications to you, or that this was an option to get my first relative prescription filled there. Your entire response is based around a conversation, half of which never took place. Had it taken place, had you not looked for more ways to not help me, than help me, I would have of course considered it. "We must abide by policy and be able to manage all medications and not just controls." I am all about policy. I have been following policy for 20 years on that medication which is why it is prescribed to me. That is not what we are talking about here. We are talking about how you came across in a negative way as a business who did not take the time to understand the needs of a consumer, looking to give you business. We have many choices as consumers of where to take our business. You have every right to stand by your policy, which I completely understand. What I do not agree with is how I felt you did not take time to understand my needs at all and offered me no continued way forward, like I was doing something wrong. Even though you said you did here, which I also do not agree with. I did nothing wrong here, but felt as if I did after encountering you. I'm sorry, that is not something anyone would appreciate, especially during a time when people should be helping each other more. We can agree to disagree, I certainly do.

The…read morepharmacist was very rude and stated that they weren't gonna fill it without a prior insurance authorization. I told her that I would bypass my insurance and pay cash like I have been doing for the last 15 weeks and she stated that it was a violation of CVS policy to allow me to pay cash and bypass insurance. I explained that it was my legal right to pay cash for my medication and not my insurance and she stated that CVS policy supersedes Federal law. I recorded the conversation. I have called CVS customer service and the executive pharmacist. Steven returned my call and said they were going to escalate it. I will be without medication starting tomorrow. I will no longer use this Pharmacy. I will find a mom and Pop local pharmacy and start using them for my medication. When a pharmacist tells you that policy supersedes law, there is a legal issue. According to the law, I can pay cash for my prescriptions.

I used to come here. Switched to RiteAid a half mile away. But after 5-plus years there, the…read moreRiteAid went out of business and automatically transferred my scrips back to that Walgreens. And so I was back for over a year I think. The general issues didn't change. Understaffed up front. Not all that helpful in the back. This past week, I had trouble getting my continuous glucose monitor. Walgreens was frequently out of stock on an item that is replaced regularly like clockwork. Well 3 weeks ago, when my doctor had it refilled, Walgreen's only filled 15 days out of a 90 day script. When I sought a refill from Walgreen's, they said I first needed a prior authorization. This seemed odd, but it's the first month of the year. So I called my doctor. They said: I still had 5 refills left. Walgreens insisted I still needed a prior authorization. So I called my doctor yet again. And the doctor said they'd call the pharmacy. And the pharmacy was still adamant! Wouldn't fill my glucose sensor. The person on the phone was rude. The prior use of the automated system was difficult if you sought to speak to the pharmacist. Walgreens also said it didn't have my particular sensor in stock. They didn't. Then had to ask them if they'd check other Walgreens (several are fairly close). And they did upon being asked. But the Walgreens they sent me to had only the newer version of my sensor which would require a new script from the doctor. Well - that was enough. Enough was enough. I'd now Bern without my diabetes glucose sensor for a couple days! It's my life they're gambling with. Called CVS across the street. Told them to have all my scripts transferred to them from the Walgreen's across the street. Asked if they had the particular sensor, but that store didn't have it (they only had the newer version too), but said they'd get from another store and have it the next day (it was nearing closing on Saturday). On Sunday, they had my sensor and gave me all 90 days. While I can't know the future with CVS, which some folks complain about) it certainly looks far more promising. Because of Medicare Advantage insurance, I don't know how much business Walgreen's just lost on an annual basis. I have had a whole lot of scripts filled there and previously at RiteAid. Thousands of dollars in value to them? I'd guess so. Note: Rite Aid was often out of my sensor and sometimes out of other drugs I was due. That was quite annoying. I made it a habit to call in the script multiple days early so if it had to be ordered, I'd still get it on time. One huge difference though is that RiteAid was always, very courteous no matter who was there and they always tried hard to help when needed. They were unfortunately often understaffed. But I much preferred RiteAid. So I'm pleased to once again be rid of Walgreens. Hope CVS is good - but the bar is set quite low so I'm sure CVS will at least be an improvement. Should have immediately transferred to RiteAid scripts to CVS. Bye-bye. Thought you readers should know.
