TL:DR: Girl on the phone lied. The Manager touched me twice without permission in ways that made me uncomfortable. I wasn't sat with my friend for our appointment together. The manager yelled at my nail tech for something that wasn't her fault. The manager unnecessarily canceled a long-time loyal customer's appointment because she was 15 minutes late. The layout of the salon doesn't make sense. Nail tech was great. A friend of mine recommended The Claw Shop to me some time ago. I was interested in finding a salon that could be "my salon," a place I went to for all my services. The claw shop offers every service I'm interested in. As a test drive, I agreed to go with my friend for a manicure. Manicures are inexpensive and commonplace, so a good idea of how the place handles its clients. I also added a pedicure, as I prefer my toes and fingers to match. I called in advance and asked if they had cat-eye gel nail polish. It is a rare option many salons do not have. It's not a requirement for "my salon" to have it, but it would have been a huge bonus! I was told yes, they do! I was very excited. I love the look of the cat-eye, so this was a HUGE gold star to me that I could get it done. On the day of the service I get there, I found out they didn't have it. Okay, that sucks but oh well. :( Why lie? While waiting for my service, this woman comes in with a birthday present for one of the hairdressers. This was a promising sign that she was so close to a stylist that she'd drive 30 minutes (without traffic) for an appointment at the claw shop and go so far as to bring a gift. She was 15 minutes late due to traffic, so the salon manager canceled the customer's appointment. I overheard her say that she was driving and couldn't call or check her phone because she was driving. (Which is the law.) To make it worse, the stylist didn't have a customer lined up; there weren't any walk-ins waiting, nothing. I overheard that she had over a 30-minute window before her next client. She had the time to make the appointment. But the manager canceled the appointment, so "nothing could be done." The customer left the gift with the stylist and left upset. Time for my appointment. My friend and I booked our appointments simultaneously to hang out while we got our nails done. I even mentioned to my nail tech that we were together. They set us up at distant stations away from each other with our backs turned so that we couldn't talk or see each other during the service. Why bother booking an appointment with your friend when you can't be sat together or even near each other? More annoyingly, there were open stations on either side of my friend's nail tech. A positive nail tech I had was great. She was personable. She was kind. She was respectful. Her nail work was gentle and skillful. We chatted, and she resonated very well with me. The nail tech understood from our chat that I was sensitive to touch because of the pregnancy. While I'm getting my nails done, the manager passes me and stops. She starts rubbing my sweater and compliments me on it. Then noticed I was pregnant and touched my belly without asking. WTF? I don't care who you are. NEVER touch someone without permission. ESPECIALLY if they are pregnant. I was very uncomfortable and annoyed. My nail tech apologized to me for the encounter. While I recognize it was not malicious and the manager did not mean to make me uncomfortable or offend. I can't help that I was both. I'd considered canceling the pedicure I booked because I was getting to the end of my comfort with the salon. But the nail tech was so good I decided to finish the appointment and give her a large tip. After using the bathroom, I head over to the pedicure area. There are two pedicure stations in a curtained-off room by the bathrooms and hair stylists, opposite from all the nail techs. So I go to sit in the pedicure station. The water took forever to get warm. While waiting for the water to warm, the "Karen" of a manager strolls over and starts yelling at my nail tech in front of me. My tech was so embarrassed and looked like she might cry. There was a veiled threat of being fired for whatever mistake that was made left hanging in the air. But by the end of the exchange, it was revealed it wasn't MY nail tech that was at fault for whatever was wrong. No apology to my nail tech or me for the terrible behavior by the manager. So I told the manager she was rude. (Which was the nicest thing I could think to say to her by this point.) She looked at me with a "how dare you". She walked off in a huff after trying to stare me down. read more

I have been going here for waxing and the technician is amazing, however I'm trying to schedule an appointment for nails, and they keep telling me they would call me back, but they don't. First time they promised me to get back and never did in 2 days, I have called them again and they said they will give me a call back in an hour, and they never did. I used to go to the claw shop to get my nails done all the time. I had enjoyed the services provided to me so I entrusted the Claw Shop to do my wedding nails. Never have I regretted a decision more. Mickey, the nail tech who served me was the most coarse and least compassionate woman I have met in my life! She didn't welcome me even though she knew it was my big day. She described other clients as "gross" and "desperate." She didn't do a great job at painting my nails either. I had wanted a design on one finger and she told me she couldn't do it, ok fine. Then she continued and told me it was trashy and passé. That's fine if that's your opinion, but did you really have to try to rain on my parade like that. I was visiting family in MA with my 20 month old son when I noticed how shaggy his hair was getting. I found the Claw Shop in the yellow pages and saw that they do kids hair cuts (in addition to all the normal salon type stuff for adults) then checked on yelp. Only two reviews, but that's about as many or more than any other salon in the leominster area. Both reviews were 5 stars, so I decided to check them out. It *was* a 5 star experience! Amy (sp?) has lots of experience cutting kids hair and did a fabulous job. He has gotten so many complements on the cut. The cut itself was easy... she had him sit in my lap and gave him a lollipop and he was so zoning out on the sugar that he never noticed the lady with the scissors. What a great experience. Terrible experience!!! I would not go back again!! I have told my fiancée that I do not want anymore gift certs from here. The other day I went in for an ultimate relaxation package. Mellissa was great. The other girl who was a brunette was terrible!!! She worked on my facial and for starters she was late getting to work, she rushed my facial and when she exfoliated my face she Rubbed so fast and hard I thought my face was going to fall off!!!!!!! This facial was the worst facial I have ever had!!! It was not relaxing in the least!!!!!!! read more

Absolutely terrible experience. I went to the Claw Shop for a balayage. My hair was dark brown and I was hoping for a gradual ombre to a caramel. I had the first morning appointment and was very quickly disappointed. Having a holiday dinner a few days away I stayed but should not have. The place was very messy and the stylist was cleaning other peoples hair out of the brush. (Red Flag - I know). The stylist barely talked to me at all either despite my efforts to make any sort of conversation. She started on the side of my head, not the back like normal and picked pieces to paint rather than a traditional balayage. I do my hair from home often and have used 30 Volume Developer but only for 15 minutes. By the time she was done it had been 20 minutes. She then put me under the heat lamps. After 5 minutes I went to find her but she was busy. Dying her own hair for her evening dinner plans. 25 more minutes went by and she came to rinse my hair. My hair was bright orange, she used a purple shampoo and a 30 Volume Developer on my hair. It turned my roots yellow, the ends just died. She barely shampooed and did not condition. She was in a rush so she would have extra time after my appointment to finish her hair. She then proceeded to hack off my hair where she seemed fit. Then used a wire brush to dry my hair (no product) and since the bleach was not washed out my hair was damaged and shredded further. I had my hair fixed this past weekend and lost 3 inches of hair and was told I cannot go any lighter or my hair will break off completely because of what was done at the Claw Shop. I always get compliments on my hair, the facials are so relaxing and you just feel polished afterwards, the mani/pedi's feel comfortable and not like an assembly line, and the spray tanning looks so natural! Even though I like to consider myself nonjudgmental... Fact is that I have always fell into that stereotypical belief that a dude has no business getting a pedicure/manicure. I mean, other than the prima donnas who play professional sports, a guy should never be caught in a beauty saloon/spa, right? Wrong! I was finally convinced that it would be in my best interest to have a pedicure done. So reluctantly, I made my appointment with one of their technicians, named Alyssa. She was very professional and very much down to earth. Immediately I felt very comfortable. It's a pretty busy saloon, but at no point did I feel as if I was out of place, or as if I wasn't getting Alyssa's undivided attention. The process took about 45 minutes and I will put it right up there as one of the most relaxing moments of my life! To the point where I truly didn't want to leave!. When I did leave, it felt as if I was walking on clouds! Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit , but the true story is that... I am now a believer thanks to Alyssa and The Claw Shop! I tried to book a wedding party here numerous times and it was the most difficult experience ever. I was trying to book hair, makeup, and nails. That is a lot of business for them-you would think they would have called me back. Terrible service. I always got someone different on the phone saying they couldnt book the party until I spoke with the manager who was never there when I called. After calling five times, the manager finally called me back and said she couldnt book the party until she talked to each individual stylist to make sure they would do it. Who does that? This salon is so unprofessional, the moment you walk In everybody who works there is so poorly dressed, in sweat pants looks like they rolled out of bed. I had the worst pedicure today, the girl who did is was very nice but she informed me she was a massage therapist and didn't do nails very often at all, She cut my toes so far down they were bleeding, it took her almost 2 hours just for a regular pedi, mind you I also had mani scheduled but couldn't be there any longer than I had already been. Who ever booked me with her clearly just wanted the business and didn't care what the outcome was. I left with an awful pedi that looked like a 4 yr old painted my toes and my nails didn't get done. Wow where do I even begin, did my hairstylist even go to school? I thought this place would be nice, I've heard good things. They did not listen to anything I said I wanted done. I even brought a picture with me so they would understand the concept, despite my efforts they still managed to screw up. I now have awful choppy layers and an orange tint to my hair. They told me my hair was too dark to lighten. Interesting, because I've been to many other salons over the past 10yrs and every time they could achieve the right color. This place does not know how to lighten hair correctly, or they're just plain lazy. Either way I will never do business here again and didn't want to pay the girl who did my hair. Why doesn't this place have more reviews?! I went here with my mom and girlfriends to get manis and pedis the day before my wedding. I searched a very long time for a well-reviewed nail salon in the Leominster area (I'm from Boston) and for some reason this place only showed up when I was about to give up my Yelp search. This place is great, and their staff is super friendly and accommodating. We were there for more than 2 hours because we couldn't all get our appointments at the same time. One of my friends had called separately from me and asked if we could bring in champagne, OJ and snacks to celebrate the wedding. The woman on the phone told her "as long as you don't dance on tables we don't care what you do!" So they set up a table for us in the middle of the store for our drinks and snacks, which I thought was very nice of them. My technician, Ashley, gave me the best manicure and pedicure I've ever had. I don't know if it was that she was super careful for my wedding, but I get the sense that's how she always is. I was able to choose a gorgeous berry color for my toes easily but I couldn't decide for my nails, and she was very patient with me and showed me a few colors - even mixing them - until I found a nail color I was happy with. This isn't a swanky salon, but it's definitely one of the most attractive shops I've been to. Also, it's huge, and it seemed pretty busy, although most of the other customers were getting their hair done. I love this place my hubby's always get me gift certificates. Manicures are great they'd pink and white acrylics. Pedicures are amazing they have those really great chairs and do them in a quite room in the back away from the hustle and bussle it is very relaxing ash lee does a great job. I'm proud to say it is a full service day spa now. It has been my pleasure watching this local business grow to the amazing day spa that it is now. I have utilized almost every service offered and have never been disappointed. Nails, hair, facial, massage you name it I have received all with the utmost curtesy and professionalism. It is clean, and the spa area is quiet and relaxing. The owner is kind, funny and more than accommodating.
