Main Event Austin

Main Event Austin

I thought I completed the holiday circuit, however, one more to go. Well...I certainly hope so…read more This holiday party was held at Main Event Austin, which I had never frequented. I was not prepared for the sensory explosion I experienced when entering Main Event. Lights, camera, action - bright lights permeated throughout the building, sounds of the games being played sharpened your senses and the roar of the crowd within the building felt like you were nearing the end of a race finish line. Let's talk about this place...Main Event Austin is an ideal location for entertainment and fun for every age group! The venue has an assortment of activities to choose from - bowling, arcade games, laser tag, and billiards. Main Event is perfect for families, friends, or group outings. There were a variety of customers present - bowlers, several groups having private parties in the party rooms towards the back of the facility, billiard players and a plethora of arcade customers. Wow! We had a pizza party with a variety of pizza being served. Drinks were on your own, if you chose to have adult beverages. It is always interesting to see work colleagues in a non-work setting. Dan, our server, was attentive and managed to keep multiple individual tabs straight by assigning a number to each customer. Had fun...felt like a kid again...

I recently had my son's 9th birthday at this location and needless to say we had several issues…read more I booked online and once I put the $100 deposit, I got an email and text confirming my 12:30pm party for Saturday afternoon. Then several hours later we were notified that our party needed to be pushed back to 2:30pm because of a buyout, ok sure. Main Event coordinator apologized and offered items to make up for the mistake and booking issue. Then I noticed on the contact a 12% service fee ($46 and some change), I asked the event coordinator and she explained that the 12% goes to the event host/server. This was not the case it was a 12% booking fee that goes to the front office staff. WOW! 12% to book online?!?! Seriously?! The server was the one who explained it to me. When I asked the manager on duty she gave me attitude and basically said "you signed the contract so you have to pay it". The day of the party it didn't seem like everyone was on the same page, our host/server did the best he could and apologized several times but it was out of his hands. The pizza came out late and the wings arrived 40 minutes after the pizza. The pizza was not hot and the wing platter turned out to be wings, tenders and nuggets. We ate the wings and tried to return the tenders and nuggets but no manager came to the table. We took care of the host/server with cash tip but we definitely don't recommend this place for birthday parties or gatherings.

I really would rate this 3.5 stars…read more It's a pretty cool place. Entertainment was great (band=Suede), food was good, drinks were good. Service was fair, at best. We were a table of 12, but that wasn't really the problem. One person who ordered, her food was given to someone else. When she inquired, she ordered again and it took over an hour to get her food. Her second beer never arrived. Unfortunately, she said this is the norm here. She comes here often, mainly for the entertainment. The server was quick to take our original orders, but follow up was zero. No attempts to get second drinks, any other food, nothing. It wasn't that busy, so I'm not sure why the service was so bad. I flagged him down for my second drink after waiting over an hour, and my friend was still waiting for her beer. It was like our table was in the ignore zone. I would come back again, but would probably order from the bar for drinks. 20% tip was included in the bill because of large party. I'm sure my friend was pissed about that considering her service was terrible. Mine was meh. Overall it was a great evening with friends. The good outweighed the bad, but don't expect great service. Enjoy the entertainment value here - Thats what makes this place special.

Visited Spare Birdie twice, once for bowling with my kiddos and most recently for a ladies night…read moreout. Had a wonderful experience both times! Reasonable prices for bowling, and well maintained lanes. Very friendly and attentive service. Beautiful space. I enjoy their extensive menu of drinks and food. They make a mean espresso martini! Small plates are the way to go at this spot. Highly recommend the Korean chicken sliders, pork belly lettuce wraps, and red chili cauliflower! Super flavorful and delicious.

I want to start by saying that as far as Austin-based movie theaters go, ALAMO IS THE BEST. (I'd…read morestill like you to read my 3-star review below though. I am concerned about everything I mention). I've checked out all of their competitors, and none of them have the variety of films that Alamo offers and their movie pass benefits are poor comparisons to what Alamo offers you. Nowhere else can you find Terror Tuesday or Weird Wednesday, or thematic movie series. These things are uniquely Alamo. These things, while I'm sure they must be nationwide, are very much Austin. Also, management with the Austin chain is very responsive when customers reach out with questions/concerns/complaints. This is unique customer service nowadays.

I just got to "enjoy" the new QR scan ordering system for the first time. And I won't be back…read more Here's why: Let's start with the irony of Alamo telling customers to keep phones dark and silent, then telling them to order food and report issues with their phones - then texting order updates to guest's phones. It was incredibly distracting with surrounding guests struggling to use this broken system through the movie. No longer can you interact with a human to order food. Food orders are driven by an online menu, which is not intuitive or easy to navigate, and does not allow sufficient customization. A guest next to me asked for a paper menu because she couldn't use the online menu. Her request was denied. Food delivery, by about half dozen people at my count, was problematic at best. We were delivered popcorn we didn't order. And when our actual food did begin to arrive, it was delivered to the wrong person consistently and came out in nonsense order. My first item delivered was a side of ketchup. Drinks didn't arrive for another 15 minutes. Food for my guests arrived well before mine. And my (hot) food was cold. Ten minutes into the actual movie, they realized they had never verified our tickets. And wanted to do that during tv movie - requiring opening the app. The new food trays swivel, which is nice. But when they filled up, nobody took away the empty containers. So we had to put food dishes in our lap or stack them precariously while trying to eat. This "new and improved" experience was not well thought out or well executed. And for the convenience of trying this failed experiment, Alamo kindly adds a mandatory 16% service fee and then "auto adds" another 5% unless you edit the bill - a fact that you're notified of (ironically) by text.
