A little place worth finding in Pewaukee. First time diners, we tried a bit of many dishes, and…read morecan absolutely say this is traditional German food. The owner, Mat is doing his Oma and mom (Bo) proud, and I bet this place is especially in the summer when the food is not the same old options up and down the Pewaukee shoreline. With outdoor service and seating in warmer weather, and now a cute little indoor dining room, I am glad I took the time to stop for dinner. We tried the chicken and pork schnitzel, both bunless; the Curry Wurst; Pretzel bites; Spätzle; Oma's Potato Salad; and Sprecher's Root Beer, of course. However, beer is also on the menu, along with other options. The menu is not huge, but if you like or want to try true German dishes, stop in. The pricing is fair, and the owner is very nice. They use the all-natural Wisconsin Gold Tallow for cooking, and I just learned about it and how it makes dishes so tasty. And it is even great for facials!

This was possibly the worst dining experience yet. We came for Sunday lunch, and there were only 3…read moreother tables present. Yet it took a server a good 10 minutes to even bring menus. We finally get to place our order and while we waited noticed the table behind us getting plate after plate of the wrong food. We order and waited another 15 minutes for drinks. Our food finally starts coming out one dish at a time and it's not even correct. We were waiting for the last dish to arrive and our server took it to the wrong table, collected it from the wrong table and tried serving it to us after it was touched by someone else! So, terrible service. To top it off the food just sucks. Tiny portions that are overpriced. Not authentic German, not even close. The schnitzel were absolutely tiny and paper thin, you could barely even notice it was meat. For $15 you get two puny schnitzels and a tiny bowl of potato salad. During our time there at least 5 tables came in, sat and left not even getting drinks.

The dining room was classically decorated with scenes of German nature scenes throughout. They also have a huge outdoor dining space where on some nights they play live Polka music. It was clear everyone was having a great time out there. I can imagine they get really busy at times but they do offer reservations so if you plan ahead, getting a table shouldn't be a problem.

Walking up to the restaurant on a Friday summer evening, the outdoor seating area looked welcoming with a polka band playing but we opted to sit indoors today. The warm wood interior, painted walls and stained glass gave the German beer hall feel you'd expect. We ordered a half liter and our fish dinner of choice. My baked fish and potato pancakes did not disappoint. The cod was flaky and well seasoned while the potato pancakes had a light cinnamon flavor that paired well with the applesauce. Coleslaw and rye bread were exactly as I'd expect. Our server was friendly and the overall service was quick too, even on a busy Friday evening. While we did have reservations, there appeared to be a few extra seats although we were there a little earlier than your usual "dinner rush" time so I'd recommend reservations if you really want to ensure you don't have to wait.

Wow! Perfection! My…read moresisters took me to this dollhouse of a restaurant for my birthday. From the outside in, the charm was everywhere. Cozy and sweet, every detail is thoughtfully planned. The bar area is adorable. Our bartender was so chatty and created perfect old fashions. The two dining rooms are equally adorable. The staff was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. The ladies at the hostess desk, the bartender and our server all offered warm hospitality. From appetizers to dessert, we loved everything. They offer classic supper club options as well as traditional German fare. House of Gerhard is not to be missed.

Low bar features comfy and accessible swivel chairs instead of bar stools. Very nice bartenders and top shelf beers and booze. There are no steps to navigate to enter restaurant itself (as well as the dining area), but there are two steps to climb to reach the small bar area. A railing would be helpful here. Dining is also a delight. A nice menu offers a variety of entrees and appetizers, German and American fare. Seafood is also very well prepared. Friendly waitstaff work hard and are very efficient. Water is refilled constantly. We had a schnitzel, scallops, house salad, and one awesome spinach salad topped by a perfect Strawberry Schaum Torte dessert on a recent busy Saturday. Can't wait to revisit to House of Gerhard when we return to Kenosha County.
